Campgrounds and RV parks near Maliotenam, QC

The Moisie River, just east of Maliotenam, is known for whitewater paddling and Atlantic salmon and is used for canoe camping below its cliffs. Inside Réserve faunique de Port-Cartier-Sept-Îles, visitors at Lac Walker - Port Cartier Reserve can hike the De la Montagne, De la Tour à Feu, and Chute-MacDonald trails, paddle a 33 km glacial lake, rent canoes or motorboats, and fish for brook trout, Arctic char, and Atlantic salmon. Birdwatchers look for raptors that frequent the reserve. Lac Walker - Port Cartier Reserve typically opens in late May, and the Walker sector stays open into mid-October for hiking and water sports. Camping Domaine Ensoleille 2000 in Baie-Trinité generally opens in mid-May and closes around the third week of September. July and August are the warmest months and the busiest for reservations, especially weekends around the Innu Nikamu Festival held each August in Maliotenam. Late spring and early summer bring blackflies and mosquitoes inland; coastal sites are usually less buggy. From mid-September into mid-October, a controlled big-game hunting period takes effect inside the wildlife reserve, restricting access to a defined zone and requiring an orange safety vest on hiking trails. Outside the operating window, sites are closed and access roads may not be maintained.

Expect a remote, coastal-boreal setting. Cell coverage is reliable in Sept-Îles and along Route 138 but drops quickly on side roads into the wildlife reserve. The access road to Lac Walker is about 28 km of gravel from Route 138, passable for RVs but slow. Inland sites are bordered by black spruce forest and large lakes; coastal sites have direct St. Lawrence views and tidal beaches. Sépaq sites at Lac Walker include sanitary blocks, showers, and firewood, though drinking water is not available on site, so RVers should arrive with full tanks. Coastal private campgrounds typically offer full hookups, laundry, and a dump station. Bring layered clothing, insect repellent in summer, and bear-aware food storage. Services in Maliotenam and Sept-Îles include grocery stores, fuel, propane, and a hospital. French is the primary language; English is commonly understood in tourist-facing businesses.
