Campgrounds near Lake Heritage
Lake Heritage is a census-designated place in Adams County, Pennsylvania, a residential community surrounding an artificial lake about two miles southeast of Gettysburg. The community itself is access-controlled with a staffed entrance, so RV travelers base their trips at commercial campgrounds clustered a few minutes away around Gettysburg National Military Park.
The closest options ring the battlefield. Drummer Boy Camping Resort sits across 95 wooded acres with over 400 seasonal and short-term sites, plus cabins, cottages, and lofts. Artillery Ridge Camping Resort occupies grounds tied to the Union Artillery Reserve of the Gettysburg Campaign and is one of the few parks where guests can camp with their own horses. Round Top Campground features 288 campsites, 18 premium cottages and 9 rustic cabins on 52 wooded acres on the edge of the park.
Gettysburg Battlefield Resort and Gettysburg Campground round out the group, both sitting within a short drive of the National Military Park visitor center and of Lake Heritage itself.
Things to do near Lake Heritage
The main draw is Gettysburg National Military Park, which is a short drive or walk from every campground on this list. Guided battlefield tours, ranger programs, and self-guided auto tours fill most itineraries. Families staying at Artillery Ridge Camping Resort can add horseback tours: the grounds house the National Riding Stables, which offers guided battlefield tours on horseback, and there are dedicated horse stalls, a riding arena, and a wash rack for guests bringing their own horses.
On-site amenities keep kids busy on non-touring days. At Drummer Boy Camping Resort, kids enjoy the playground and arcade, while everyone can use the seasonal pool with its waterslide. Round Top Campground offers an Olympic-sized swimming pool and kiddie pool, 18 hole mini-golf course, shuffleboard, volleyball and basketball courts, outdoor pavilion, game room, playground, horseshoes, store/gift shop, dump station, guest laundry, and showers. Codorus State Park, about half an hour away, adds lake boating and a park pool.

The Gettysburg area runs on a clear April to October camping season. Most commercial parks operate seasonally from spring through late fall, with a few facilities remaining open year-round. Drummer Boy Camping Resort is closed between November 18 and March 31. Round Top Campground runs on an April to October window.
Summer brings the heaviest demand. The anniversary of the battle in early July, Civil War reenactments, and school breaks push sites to capacity, so weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill first. Fall is a sweet spot for cooler weather and thinner crowds, with foliage peaking in mid to late October. Artillery Ridge and other properties continue to host themed weekends into the shoulder season.
Winter is quiet. Many commercial parks close for the season. Renters traveling from December through February should confirm open dates with each operator and expect limited on-site amenities where parks do stay open, since seasonal pools and organized activities do not run.

I recommend this RV, driving this rig was simple and comfortable. The layout and design of the interior space was perfect and roomy. The dining set makes into a very nice long bed. I will rent this one again.

How to book a site
Private campgrounds around Gettysburg are booked directly through each property's website or by phone rather than through a single central reservation system. Drummer Boy Camping Resort, Round Top Campground, Artillery Ridge Camping Resort, Gettysburg Battlefield Resort, and Gettysburg Campground each maintain their own online reservation tools, and several also list on Good Sam and third-party travel sites.
Booking windows vary by operator, so it is worth checking each site directly. At Artillery Ridge, a one-night deposit confirms a reservation, and the cancellation policy has tiers around 10 days of notice. Book as early as possible for the July battle anniversary week, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends, when the closest properties to the battlefield fill first.
What to expect on site
Expect commercial, family-focused RV parks rather than remote wilderness camping. Sites are generally close together, pull-through and back-in configurations are common, and most parks around Gettysburg offer full hookups. Round Top Campground accommodates RVs with full hookup sites offering water, electric, and sewer connections, and both 30 and 50 amp service are available. Some sites are reported to be small, tight, and occasionally unlevel, which may present challenges for larger rigs, and the layout includes some sites at unusual angles.
Amenities skew toward families: pools, playgrounds, mini-golf, camp stores, laundry, and organized weekend activities are standard. Downtown Gettysburg is within a short drive of every campground on this list for restaurants, groceries, and museums. Cell coverage is generally reliable, though on-site Wi-Fi quality varies and is often limited to common areas rather than individual sites.

Summer (late June through August) is peak season with 80 to 90 degree highs, lively battlefield reenactments, and the famous Gettysburg anniversary events around July 1 to 3. You can also message your host anytime during the trip with questions. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number in your phone before you leave the pickup location, and snap a photo of your campsite address so dispatch can find you quickly if cell service gets spotty in the Michaux State Forest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental across state lines or into Canada from Lake Heritage?
Yes, interstate travel is wide open for an RV road trip from Lake Heritage. You are sitting right at the Mason Dixon line with Maryland just a few miles south, West Virginia about 60 miles southwest, and Virginia within a 90 minute drive. Popular multi state routes from Lake Heritage include the Civil War trail down through Antietam and Harpers Ferry, the Skyline Drive run through Shenandoah, and trips north into the Pocono Mountains. Travel into Canada may be possible with host approval and insurance confirmation, just message the host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: the I 81 corridor is the smoothest RV route for long hauls in any direction.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Lake Heritage RV trip?
Fuel is one of the more predictable line items for an RV rental in Pennsylvania, and Lake Heritage's location near major highways means plenty of competitive pump prices. Expect Class C motorhomes to deliver 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class B campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and tow vehicles pulling a travel trailer 10 to 14 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so plan around $4 to $5 per gallon when budgeting. For a four day, 400 mile loop through Gettysburg, Hershey, and Lancaster, most renters spend $120 to $200 on fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Sheetz or Rutter's stations along US 15 in Dillsburg or Mechanicsburg, they're consistently among the cheapest pumps in the region.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lake Heritage?
Plan ahead and you'll land the prime sites, Gettysburg area campgrounds book up fast. For Pennsylvania state parks like Caledonia and Pine Grove Furnace, reservations open through the PA State Parks system (visitpaparks.com) up to 11 months in advance, and summer weekends fill quickly. Private campgrounds like Gettysburg Campground, Artillery Ridge, and Granite Hill open bookings a year ahead and sell out for the July 1 to 3 battle anniversary, Memorial Day weekend, and the October Apple Harvest Festival. Off season midweek stays in March or November are usually walk in friendly. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, book a Sunday to Thursday stay, you'll get better rates, easier site selection, and far fewer crowds at the battlefield auto tour.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are the local driving conditions like around Lake Heritage?
Driving an RV around Lake Heritage is genuinely easy compared to most East Coast destinations. US 15 and US 30 are the main four lane corridors with wide shoulders, gentle grades, and clear truck signage, perfect for first time motorhome drivers. The rural roads winding through Adams County orchards and the Michaux State Forest are scenic and low traffic. Watch for two specific things: low clearance on a few older stone railroad bridges on back roads (stick to numbered routes to avoid surprises), and Amish horse and buggy traffic if you head east toward Lancaster County. Winter can bring ice on mountain stretches like US 30 over South Mountain. Pro tip: avoid downtown Gettysburg's narrow Lincoln Square at peak summer, park your rig at the campground and drive a tow car or rideshare in.
511pa.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Lake Heritage offer?
Campgrounds around Lake Heritage are well equipped for any size rig. Most private parks like Gettysburg Campground, Drummer Boy, and Granite Hill offer full hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp electric, fresh water, sewer, dump stations, hot showers, laundry, Wi Fi, pools, and camp stores. State park campgrounds at Caledonia and Pine Grove Furnace have electric sites, potable water fill stations, dump stations, and clean bathhouses, though full sewer hookups are rare. The closest public dump station to Lake Heritage is at Caledonia State Park, with another at the Gettysburg KOA. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank at the campground spigot before you leave each morning, the rolling Adams County terrain can slosh out some of what you don't lock down, and you'll always want a full reserve for lunch stops at the battlefield.

Payment is simple and fully handled through the RVezy platform, you will never need to hand cash or a personal check to your host. When you book a Lake Heritage RV rental, your card is charged for the trip total (rental, fees, protection plan, and any add ons). A separate refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card around the time of pickup, with the amount shown on the listing. As long as the RV comes back in the same condition, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: walk the RV with your host at both pickup and drop off and snap timestamped photos of the exterior, interior, and odometer, this single habit prevents nearly every deposit dispute.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Lake Heritage in winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Lake Heritage are doable and a quietly magical way to experience Gettysburg without the crowds. Many RVezy hosts in Adams County keep their rigs available year round and offer four season units with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces. Daytime highs in December through February typically run in the 30s to mid 40s with overnight lows in the teens and 20s, so plan on staying at a campground with shore power hookups that keeps some sites open year round. Pro tip: message the host directly to confirm the rig is winter rated, ask about a heated water hose, and time your visit for the December Remembrance Day Illumination at the Soldiers' National Cemetery, it is unforgettable.
