2016 Thor Motor Coach Class C
This was the perfect RV for our family of 4! It was clean, well maintained, and stocked with cooking essentials. It was very comfortable to travel in and to sleep overnight. Nestor explained everything so it was easy to understand and available to answer any questions. Nestor was also very flexible with drop off and pick up. Our boys have said this was their favorite trip. We look forward to renting this RV again!

A truly excellent rental experience. The host was accommodating on pickup time, it was clean, everything worked, and it was fully equipped. Dishes, cookware, bedding, camping chairs, games, movies, and so many miscellaneous items. When we thought of something we needed it always turned out to be in a drawer. Dropping off was smooth and easy. We've camped for years with an A-frame trailer and this was our first time with a camping van. We love our A-frame but now we want one just like Ms. Retro.

The best time for an RV trip in Petaluma is late spring through early fall. From May through October, daytime highs typically run from the low 70s to mid 80s F, with cool evenings that are perfect for campfires. September and October align with the Sonoma County wine harvest, so book campgrounds well in advance. Is driving an RV around Petaluma hard for first-timers?

First-time renters generally find Petaluma easy to navigate. The downtown grid and surrounding rural roads are mostly flat and wide, and US 101 provides a straightforward route in and out of town. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving tips, hookups, the generator, and waste tanks. If you prefer to skip the drive entirely, choose a host that offers delivery to your campground. For added confidence, drive during daylight, take wider turns, and avoid the narrow lanes near historic downtown bridges.

How do I budget for fuel on a Petaluma RV trip? What mileage can I expect?

Plan for about 8–14 miles per gallon for your RV rental in Petaluma. Smaller campervans get better mileage, while large Class A motorhomes use more fuel. How early should I book my Petaluma RV campground and which reservation systems are used?

For the best campgrounds near Petaluma, book two to three months ahead for summer weekends and wine harvest dates in September and October. California State Parks such as Sugarloaf Ridge and Samuel P. Taylor use ReserveCalifornia, Sonoma County Regional Parks like Doran and Spring Lake use the Sonoma County Regional Parks reservation system, and private parks like the San Francisco North/Petaluma KOA book through their own websites. For last-minute trips, midweek nights and shoulder season dates in spring and late fall offer the most availability.

What is local driving like for RVs around Petaluma and Sonoma County?

Driving an RV around Petaluma is generally relaxed. US 101 runs right through town and is the easiest route north toward Santa Rosa or south toward San Francisco. Expect heavier traffic on summer weekends and during wine country events. Rural roads such as Highway 116 and Bodega Highway are narrow and winding in places, so reduce speed in the hills and after rain. Watch clearance signs near the historic downtown rail bridges, and check current road conditions on the Caltrans QuickMap before heading out.

Doran Regional Park on Bodega Bay has electric and water hookups with ocean views, and Sugarloaf Ridge State Park provides dry sites with a dump station. Booking an RV rental in Petaluma is straightforward through RVezy.
