2016 Thor Motor Coach Class C
Marco and Gina's RV was perfect for our Labor Day family camping trip. Marco gave an extremely thorough tour of the RV to show all the impressive features and make sure we knew how to operate everything from the canopy, generator, heater, etc. The RV was more stocked with supplies than expected (bedding, silverware, etc) so we didn't need to pack as much. Though I was a bit nervous to drive something that large on the curvy campground roads, Marco had me drive around the neighborhood first to make sure I got a feel for the handling. Will definitely contact them again next Labor Day.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Shingle Springs, CA
How much does an RV rental in Shingle Springs typically cost?
RV rental in Shingle Springs is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Sierra Foothills, with most travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes ranging from $175 to $275 per night. Larger Class A coaches and luxury fifth wheels run $250 to $400 nightly, depending on age and amenities. To find a cheap RV rental in Shingle Springs, book midweek, travel in the shoulder seasons of April or October, and watch for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and sort by price on RVezy to spot the best value listings within a 25 mile radius of the 95682 zip code.
visitcalifornia.com/places-to-visit/gold-country/What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Shingle Springs, CA?
Good news for first time renters: a regular Class C California driver's license (or your equivalent home state or country license) is all you need for the vast majority of RVs on RVezy. The California DMV only requires a noncommercial Class B license for motorhomes longer than 40 feet, and a noncommercial Class A for trailers over 10,000 pounds. Almost every camper van, travel trailer, and Class C motorhome listed for rent in Shingle Springs falls well under those limits. RVezy generally requires approved drivers to be at least 25 years old, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking, so you can confidently plan your Sierra Foothills RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Shingle Springs covered by protection or insurance?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan with 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can rent an RV in Shingle Springs with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the vehicle and provides financial backup if something unexpected happens on Highway 50 or a forest road in the Eldorado National Forest. RVezy offers multiple coverage tiers, and you choose the level that fits your trip during checkout, not the host. It is designed to remove the biggest worry of first time renters. Pick your level, hit the road, and enjoy the Sierra Foothills.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Shingle Springs RV rental?
Booking is low risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy and applies it consistently across every listing. There is a money back grace period right after you book, plus structured refund tiers based on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so your Sierra Foothills plans stay on track. Full policy details live on the RVezy Help Center so you can review them before confirming. Lock in your dates with confidence, knowing flexibility is built into the platform.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I find a pet-friendly RV rental in Shingle Springs?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts welcome dogs and cats on RVezy, so finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Shingle Springs is as easy as toggling the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page. Many fifth wheels and Class C motorhomes in El Dorado County are owned by fellow pet parents who include perks like washable mats and tie-down hooks. Once you have your rig, head to dog-friendly spots like the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area trails or the El Dorado Trail, which runs through nearby Placerville. Just remember Jenkinson Lake at Sly Park does not allow domestic animals in the water due to its drinking water status, so plan paw dips at other lakes.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=500Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Shingle Springs?
Yes, RV delivery in Shingle Springs is offered by many local hosts, which is a game changer if it is your first time renting an RV. Just filter by Delivery on RVezy and you will see owners who will drop off the rig at Placerville KOA Holiday, Sly Park Recreation Area, or your private property along Mother Lode Drive or French Creek Road. They will level it, hook up power and water where available, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Many also handle pickup at the end. Pro tip: ask about delivery to Apple Hill in the fall, where parking a large rig solo can be tricky during harvest season.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Shingle%20Springs%2C%20CaliforniaHow far can I drive on a Shingle Springs RV trip?
Shingle Springs sits in a sweet spot on Highway 50, putting you within easy reach of California's best outdoor playgrounds. South Lake Tahoe is just 75 miles east, Yosemite Valley is about 175 miles south, and Sacramento is a quick 35 mile hop west. Lassen Volcanic National Park is roughly 200 miles north, while the Mendocino coast sits around 195 miles to the northwest. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day) with reasonable per-mile fees beyond that, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer journeys. Message the host before booking to confirm the policy that fits your itinerary.
dot.ca.gov/What are the best campgrounds near Shingle Springs?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Shingle Springs. Placerville KOA Holiday on Rock Barn Road is a local favorite, with big-rig friendly sites, a pool, and a pet park. Sly Park Recreation Area at Jenkinson Lake (about 20 minutes east) offers nearly 200 forested sites across multiple campgrounds with lake views and miles of shoreline trail. Coloma Resort along the South Fork American River is perfect for whitewater fans, while Folsom Lake State Recreation Area's Beals Point sits just 25 minutes west. For a quieter mountain feel, try China Flat Campground in the Eldorado National Forest along Highway 88.
eid.org/recreation/sly-park-recreation-area-spra-at-jenkinson-lakeWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Shingle Springs?
Shingle Springs has a Mediterranean climate, so the prime RV camping window stretches from late March through early November. Spring (March to May) brings wildflowers and 60 to 75 degree days, perfect for exploring the South Fork American River. Summer highs in July and August often hit 90 to 95 degrees, which is great for lake days at Jenkinson Lake but means you will want a rig with strong air conditioning. Fall is the local insider's pick: September and October deliver crisp air, golden oak hills, and the famous Apple Hill harvest just up the road in Camino. Winter rentals are available too, with mild 50 degree days and occasional Sierra snow adventures nearby.
weather.gov/sto/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Shingle Springs?
You will absolutely be okay, and Shingle Springs is actually a great place for first time renters. Most hosts here rent travel trailers and Class C motorhomes that drive much like a large truck or van, and every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the kitchen, bathroom, slide-outs, and dump procedures. The local roads, like Mother Lode Drive and Highway 50, are wide and well-maintained, with gentle foothill grades that are perfect for building confidence before heading toward Tahoe. Pro tip: ask your host for a quick demo on backing up at the campsite, then take a short practice loop around the El Dorado Hills Town Center before your real trip begins.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/What if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on Highway 50, lose power at Sly Park, or have any mechanical issue near Pollock Pines, help is one phone call away. Your host is also typically a quick text away to troubleshoot small things like the water pump or awning. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pickup and snap photos of the RV's exterior at the start of your trip for a worry-free Sierra Foothills adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Nevada from Shingle Springs?
Yes, taking your RV across state lines is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Shingle Springs. Reno is just 130 miles east on Interstate 80, and Lake Tahoe's Nevada side (Stateline and Zephyr Cove) is only 80 miles via Highway 50. Most RVezy hosts allow travel throughout the continental United States with no extra paperwork. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations, but Canada-bound trips may be allowed if you message the host first. Always confirm cross-border plans with your host before booking. Popular routes include the Highway 395 Eastern Sierra loop and the Pacific Coast Highway swing through Big Sur.
cbp.gov/travelWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much will gas cost?
Plan smart and your fuel budget stays manageable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and large Class A rigs land around 6 to 9 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but typically reduce its MPG by 25 to 40 percent. California gas runs higher than the national average, and as of recent months El Dorado County stations near Highway 50 have averaged around $4.50 to $5.00 per gallon for regular. There is a Costco in Folsom (15 minutes west) for the cheapest fill-ups before heading into the mountains. Budget roughly $0.50 to $0.75 per mile in fuel for most motorhomes.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book a campground near Shingle Springs?
Book early and your trip planning gets dramatically easier. Sly Park Recreation Area at Jenkinson Lake accepts individual site reservations up to 14 months in advance through the El Dorado Irrigation District (EID), and prime summer weekends fill within hours of opening. Folsom Lake State Recreation Area uses ReserveCalifornia, which opens reservations six months out at 8 a.m. Pacific. Eldorado National Forest sites along Highway 88 book through Recreation.gov on a similar six-month rolling window. Pro tip: for July and August, set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your target date, log in early, and have backup sites ready. Weekday and shoulder-season trips are far easier to book last minute.
reservecalifornia.com/What are driving conditions like around Shingle Springs?
Driving an RV around Shingle Springs is refreshingly low stress for California. Highway 50 is the main artery, a wide four-lane divided highway with gentle grades through the foothills (Shingle Springs sits at about 1,400 feet of elevation). Climbing east toward Echo Summit and Tahoe, you will hit steeper 6 to 7 percent grades, so use lower gears and take it slow. Watch for occasional winter chain controls in the Sierra from December through March; CalTrans posts real time updates on QuickMap. Summer afternoons can bring foothill heat and gusty winds on the open stretches near El Dorado Hills. Avoid driving large rigs through old downtown Placerville, where Main Street is narrow and parking is tight.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/Where can I dump tanks and fill fresh water near Shingle Springs?
You have great options without driving far. Placerville RV Resort offers a dump station and potable water fill for guests and sometimes for non-guests for a small fee. Sly Park Recreation Area has a dump station near the gatehouse for registered campers. Most full-hookup sites at Placerville RV Resort include 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer right at the pad, while Sly Park sites are dry (no hookups) so you will use onboard tanks. Generator hours at Sly Park are restricted to 7 to 9 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., and 5 to 8 p.m., so plan AC and microwave use accordingly. Top off fresh water before leaving any campground for boondocking adventures in the Eldorado National Forest.
eid.org/recreation/sly-park-recreation-area-spra-at-jenkinson-lake/sly-park-camping/camping-frequently-asked-questionsWhat amenities come standard in a Shingle Springs RV rental?
Most motorhome rentals in Shingle Springs come fully equipped so you can roll up to camp and start enjoying the Sierra Foothills immediately. Expect a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and basic cookware; a bathroom with shower and toilet; sleeping for 4 to 8 with a mix of queen beds, bunks, and convertible dinettes; air conditioning and furnace; a TV; and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Many hosts include an onboard generator for boondocking, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on, which is handy since cell service drops off east of Pollock Pines. Always check the listing's amenity list, and message the host with any questions before you book.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/rvcamping.htmWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for RV rentals in Shingle Springs?
RVezy hosts in Shingle Springs commonly offer add-ons that turn a good trip into a great one: bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, propane fire pits, generators, bike racks, and even kayaks or paddleboards (handy for Jenkinson Lake). Pickup is usually at the host's home in the 95682 area, but many will deliver to Placerville RV Resort, Sly Park, or your driveway for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, so check the listing for the daily allowance and overage rate. Pro tip: bundle delivery with a generator add-on if you plan to camp at Sly Park, since the sites are dry and run on battery power.
fs.usda.gov/main/eldorado/recreationHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before pickup; it is not charged unless there is an issue at return. To avoid any deposit disputes, take time-stamped photos of the RV's interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff, return it with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump tanks if your agreement requires it. The hold is released within a few days of a clean return.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Shingle Springs in winter, and is cold weather a problem?
Winter RV rental in Shingle Springs is absolutely doable and often overlooked. The town itself rarely sees snow (winter highs are around 54 degrees), but you are only an hour from Sierra-at-Tahoe and Kirkwood ski resorts, making a campervan rental in Shingle Springs a fun base camp for winter adventures. Look for listings that mention heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a strong propane furnace, which keeps the rig comfortable down to 20 degrees. Many Sly Park sites stay open year-round, and Placerville RV Resort runs all 12 months with full hookups. Carry tire chains November through April per California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) requirements, and check QuickMap for chain controls before heading uphill.
