We rented this RV from August 21–25, and from beginning to end, we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Charlie and Margaret were amazing hosts! Their communication was excellent, and they were always helpful, friendly, responsive, and very professional. They truly made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. The RV itself was beautiful, modern, extremely clean, and very well maintained. As soon as we walked inside, we were impressed. The lighting throughout the RV was fantastic—there were plenty of lights, which made the space feel bright, comfortable, and welcoming. The bathroom was extremely clean and surprisingly spacious. The bedroom was large, comfortable, and cozy, with plenty of storage space for clothes and personal belongings. We never felt cramped at all. The kitchen was one of our favorite features. It was beautiful and spacious, with a long countertop that gave us plenty of room to prepare meals. Charlie and Margaret really thought of everything. The cabinets and drawers were stocked with pots, pans, plates, utensils, and everything else we needed. They even provided plenty of cleaning supplies, including a broom, vacuum, Lysol wipes, and more. What impressed us most was how much this RV truly felt like a home away from home. We had everything we needed—and honestly, even more than we expected. You can tell Charlie and Margaret put a lot of thought and care into making sure their guests are comfortable and have a great experience. Whether you’re going camping, attending an outdoor event, or simply looking for a comfortable RV getaway, I would highly recommend renting from Charlie and Margaret. Beautiful RV, outstanding hosts, excellent communication, and a five-star experience all around. Thank you, Charlie and Margaret, for helping make our trip so comfortable and memorable! We would absolutely rent from you again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in West Haven, CT
How much does it cost to rent an RV in West Haven, CT?
RV rental in West Haven is an affordable way to explore the Connecticut shoreline, with most nightly rates landing between $95 and $225 depending on the rig. Compact campervan rentals in West Haven and pop-up trailers sit at the lower end, while Class C motorhomes and larger fifth wheels typically run $175 to $300 per night. You can stretch your budget by booking midweek, traveling in May or September instead of peak July and August, and filtering for Instant Book listings that often include discounts for longer stays. Pro tip: shoreline demand spikes in midsummer, so locking in your dates 60 to 90 days out usually means the best price.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Haven%2C%20ConnecticutDo I need a special license to rent an RV in West Haven, Connecticut?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in West Haven. Connecticut does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use recreational vehicles, so even a large Class A motorhome can be driven on a standard Class D license. To rent through RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. International visitors should bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their home license. Most guests are surprised at how easy the paperwork is: you simply confirm your ID online and meet your host for the walkthrough.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my West Haven RV rental?
Every RV rental in West Haven, CT booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head toward Long Island Sound with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), so you decide how much extra cushion you want. Plans provide substantial financial protection for renters and are one of the reasons first-time RV campers feel confident booking. Pro tip: select your preferred protection tier before finalizing the booking so everything is locked in before pickup day at the host's driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my West Haven RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in West Haven is low-risk because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you book. After that window, refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is and circumstances like severe weather, which is worth considering along the Connecticut shoreline during Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to November 30). You'll see the full cancellation details on your booking confirmation, and RVezy support is available if plans change. Pro tip: if a nor'easter or tropical storm is forecast, reach out to RVezy customer support right away, they handle weather-related disruptions every season.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a West Haven RV rental?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in West Haven is easy to find on RVezy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and browse hosts who welcome dogs and cats. Many shoreline owners are pet parents themselves and even leave bowls and a leash hook. Once you're rolling, leashed dogs are welcome at West Haven's 3.5-mile Savin Rock boardwalk and at Bradley Point Park, both right on Long Island Sound. Heads up: pets are restricted from the swimming beach and campground areas at Hammonasset Beach State Park during the summer season, so if you're traveling with a pup, consider a pet-friendly private park like Riverdale Farm Campsites in Clinton. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed notes.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/parks/hammonasset-beach-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in West Haven?
Yes, RV delivery in West Haven is one of the most popular options, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig through I-95 traffic. Many hosts will deliver your motorhome rental in West Haven directly to Hammonasset Beach State Park, Kettletown State Park, a private campground like Branch Brook in Thomaston, or even your own driveway, then handle the full setup, leveling, and orientation walkthrough. Delivery fees typically range from $2 to $5 per mile or a flat rate within 25 miles of West Haven. Pro tip: filter for Delivery on RVezy, then message two or three hosts with your destination, you'll often get competitive quotes within a few hours.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Haven%2C%20ConnecticutHow far can I drive on a West Haven RV trip, and is there unlimited mileage?
You've got plenty of range for a great West Haven RV trip. Hosts set their own mileage policies, and many include 100 to 150 free miles per night, while some list RV rentals with unlimited mileage, perfect if you're planning a longer New England loop. From West Haven, popular drives include Mystic Seaport (about 60 miles east on I-95), Newport, Rhode Island (about 110 miles), the Berkshires in western Massachusetts (around 90 miles north), Cape Cod (about 200 miles), and New York City (roughly 80 miles southwest). Pro tip: use the Unlimited Mileage filter on RVezy if you want zero math, and confirm the mileage cap and overage rate with your host before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Haven%2C%20ConnecticutWhere are the best campgrounds near West Haven, CT?
The best campgrounds near West Haven span the Connecticut shoreline and inland forests, all within an easy drive. Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison (about 25 miles east) is the state's largest, with hundreds of sites and direct access to a two-mile beach on Long Island Sound. Kettletown State Park in Southbury (about 25 miles northwest) offers wooded sites near Lake Zoar. Riverdale Farm Campsites in Clinton is family-friendly with full hookups, and Branch Brook Campground in Thomaston has shaded sites near hiking trails. For an easy weekend close to New Haven, look at private parks in the inland shoreline towns. Pro tip: Hammonasset's campground typically opens in late spring and closes in mid-October, book up to 11 months ahead on the Connecticut State Parks reservation system.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/parks/hammonasset-beach-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in West Haven?
The sweet spot for RV camping in West Haven runs from late May through mid-October, when shoreline campgrounds are open and Long Island Sound is warm enough for swimming. July and August are peak season with average highs in the low 80s F and lively beach scenes, but they're also the busiest and most humid. June and September are the smart-money months: temperatures sit in the comfortable 70s, bugs ease up, and campsites are easier to grab. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid to late October, making a West Haven RV trip into the Litchfield Hills genuinely spectacular. Pro tip: shoulder-season weekends often have lower nightly rates, message a host to ask about extended-stay discounts.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving it around West Haven?
You're going to do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, hookups, the awning, the generator, the bathroom, and how to dump tanks, no one hands you the keys and waves goodbye. For West Haven specifically, stick to I-95, I-91, and Route 1 (the Boston Post Road); these are RV-friendly. Avoid the Merritt Parkway and Wilbur Cross Parkway (Route 15), where RVs, trucks, and trailers are prohibited because of low historic bridges and parkway restrictions. Pro tip: consider a campervan rental in West Haven or a smaller Class C if you're nervous about size, they handle much like a large van and park easily at coastal lots near Bradley Point.
portal.ct.gov/dmv/commercial-driver-services/limited-cdl-and-parkway-restrictionsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in West Haven, CT includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, so a flat tire on I-95, a dead battery at Hammonasset, or a generator that won't start is just one phone call away from help. Your host is also your first resource, most are happy to talk you through small issues like resetting a GFCI outlet or relighting the water heater. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number and your host's number in your phone before you pull out of the driveway, and snap a photo of the fuse panel location during your walkthrough.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my West Haven RV rental into other states or to Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from West Haven into other states is one of the best parts of renting here. You're well positioned for New England: drive about 90 minutes to Rhode Island beaches, two hours to Cape Cod, three hours to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, or south into New York's Hudson Valley. Cross-border travel to Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the owner directly before booking if Quebec or the Maritimes are on your itinerary. Heads up: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: confirm any out-of-state or cross-border plans in writing through RVezy's messaging so everyone's on the same page.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost for my West Haven RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your budget, but it's predictable once you know the numbers. Connecticut gas prices typically run a bit above the national average; check current EIA data for up-to-date regular and diesel prices near West Haven. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 MPG, and a Class A or large fifth wheel setup pulls 7 to 10 MPG. For a typical weekend trip from West Haven to Mystic and back (about 130 miles round trip), budget roughly $40 to $80 in fuel for a Class C depending on current prices. Pro tip: fill up in West Haven or Orange where prices tend to be lower than along I-95 service plazas.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near West Haven?
For the best campgrounds near West Haven, plan ahead, especially for summer weekends. Hammonasset Beach State Park accepts reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Connecticut State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica, and prime July and August beach sites often fill within days of opening. Aim to book 4 to 6 months ahead for peak summer, 2 to 4 weeks for shoulder season (May, September, October), and just a few days out for midweek fall trips. Private parks like Riverdale Farm Campsites and Branch Brook usually have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: if Hammonasset is full, watch for cancellations, sites open up daily as plans change, and a coastal site is worth the wait.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/parks/hammonasset-beach-state-parkWhat should I know about driving an RV in and around West Haven?
The single most important thing to know: do not drive your RV on the Merritt Parkway, Wilbur Cross Parkway (Route 15), or Milford Parkway. Connecticut prohibits RVs, campers, trucks, and trailers on all three because the historic stone bridges have very low clearances. Stick to I-95, I-91, and Route 1 (Boston Post Road), all RV-friendly. Summer traffic on I-95 between West Haven and New York can be heavy on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings, so plan departures for early morning. Coastal winds and occasional fog near Long Island Sound are worth watching for. Pro tip: program your route in an RV-specific GPS app like RV Life or Garmin RV before you pull out, general GPS apps may route you onto a restricted parkway.
portal.ct.gov/dmv/commercial-driver-services/limited-cdl-and-parkway-restrictionsWhat amenities should I expect at campgrounds near West Haven?
Connecticut campgrounds near West Haven offer a solid mix of amenities. Hammonasset Beach State Park has hundreds of grassy sites with restrooms, hot showers, a camp store, potable water spigots, and dump stations, though most sites have no hookups (a smaller section offers water and electric). Private parks like Riverdale Farm and Branch Brook typically provide full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. For dumping and fresh water on the road, most state parks open their dump stations to self-contained units. Pro tip: bring a 50-foot drinking water hose and a 25-foot sewer hose, plus a surge protector, hookup post locations vary and the extra length saves frustration at sites near the dunes.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/parks/hammonasset-beach-state-parkWhat's included inside a typical West Haven RV rental?
Most RV rentals in West Haven come fully equipped so you can roll in and start your vacation. Expect a full kitchen with a fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware; a bathroom with a toilet and shower; comfortable beds (queen master plus convertible dinette or bunks); a dining area; air conditioning and a furnace; and seatbelts for safe travel. Many hosts also include a TV, Wi-Fi hotspot, an outdoor awning, camp chairs, a generator for off-grid power, leveling blocks, and starter kits with linens and kitchen essentials. Smaller campervan rentals near West Haven typically have a compact kitchen and wet bath. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list carefully and message the host if you need specifics like a coffee maker or pack-and-play.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Haven%2C%20ConnecticutWhat add-ons can I get with a West Haven RV rental?
RVezy hosts in West Haven offer genuinely useful add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include delivery and setup ($2 to $5 per mile or flat rates), generator use (often $3 to $5 per hour beyond a daily allowance), bike racks, kayak racks, outdoor grills, linen and towel packages ($25 to $75 per trip), camp chair and table bundles, and pet cleaning fees ($50 to $100 if you're traveling with a dog). Many hosts also offer late pickup or early drop-off windows for a small fee. Pickup and drop-off usually happen at the host's address, but delivery to Hammonasset or your home is common. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking, hosts often discount packages when you combine delivery, linens, and a generator.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Haven%2C%20ConnecticutHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RVezy rental?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in West Haven, CT, you pay the full trip cost (rental, fees, and chosen protection plan) through RVezy's platform, no cash exchanged with the host. A separate security deposit, set by the host and typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig, is held before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape with tanks emptied and fuel topped up. To avoid any deductions, follow the host's return checklist: dump the gray and black tanks, refill propane and fuel, and clean up after pets. Pro tip: take timestamped photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at pickup and drop-off, it protects everyone.
