There was a grounding issue between the 5000W inverter and the trailer. Ryan (trailer owner) was very responsive when contacted, troubleshot the issue quickly, kept the communication during the rental period great, and was very flexible with delivery and pickup. I was very impressed with my rental experience with Ryan I would rent from him again

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Elsmere, DE
How much does an RV rental in Elsmere cost, and how can I save?
RV rental in Elsmere is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Mid-Atlantic. On RVezy, travel trailers average around $125 to $175 per night, while a fully equipped Class C motorhome rental in Elsmere typically runs about $200 to $275 per night. Shoulder seasons in spring (April to May) and fall (September to October) can shave 20 to 30 percent off peak summer beach pricing. To find a cheap RV rental in Elsmere, filter by travel trailer, choose mid-week pickup dates, and look for hosts offering free local delivery. Pro tip: Delaware has no state sales tax, so groceries and gear you stock for the trip stretch further than they would in New Jersey or Maryland.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Elsmere%2C%20DelawareWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Elsmere, Delaware?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Elsmere, Delaware. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement is required for motorhomes or travel trailers available on RVezy, no matter the class. You'll need to be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the RVezy platform when you book, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly the licensing piece is handled, leaving you free to focus on the fun part: picking your rig.
dmv.de.gov/services/driver_services/drivers_license/dr_lic_classes.shtmlWhat protection and roadside assistance is included with my Elsmere RV rental?
Every RVezy booking in Elsmere includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-95 or head to the Delaware beaches with confidence. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV (this is coverage, not traditional auto insurance), and you choose your level of protection at checkout, not the host. If you get a flat near the Christiana Mall or need a jump in a Cape Henlopen campground loop, one call dispatches help any hour of the day. That safety net is a big reason first-time renters feel confident booking an RV rental in Delaware.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Elsmere RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts, and every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that window, refunds depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. Because RVezy manages cancellations centrally, you can review the full, current policy on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy provides a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: booking earlier in the year gives you the most flexibility to adjust if a nor'easter rolls through the Mid-Atlantic.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Elsmere?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Elsmere options are plentiful on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching and you'll see rigs whose hosts welcome your four-legged crew. Delaware is a great state for dog owners: Cape Henlopen State Park allows leashed pets in designated camping loops and on most trails, and White Clay Creek State Park (about 15 minutes from Elsmere) has miles of dog-friendly woodland paths. Banning Park, right in Elsmere itself, is a quick on-leash walk before you hit the road. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask about their preferred clean-up routine so your deposit comes back smoothly.
destateparks.com/know-before-you-go/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Elsmere?
Yes, RV delivery Elsmere is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a 30-foot rig down Kirkwood Highway. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer at popular spots like Lums Pond State Park (about 25 minutes south), Killens Pond State Park (about an hour), or even your own driveway in New Castle County. They handle leveling, hookups, and a full walkthrough, so you arrive, unpack groceries, and start enjoying. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your campsite number. It's the easiest way to rent an RV in Elsmere stress-free.
destateparks.com/campingHow far can I travel on an Elsmere RV trip, and is there an unlimited mileage option?
You can cover a lot of ground from Elsmere because Delaware sits at the heart of the Mid-Atlantic. Hosts set their own mileage policies, and many offer generous daily allowances or even RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for longer loops. From Elsmere you're roughly 30 miles to Philadelphia, 70 miles to Baltimore, 110 miles to Washington DC, 90 miles to Rehoboth Beach, and about 110 miles to Ocean City, Maryland. Filter listings by mileage allowance and message any host to confirm overage rates before you book. Pro tip: Delaware is only about 100 miles top to bottom, so even a beach week from Elsmere rarely burns through a standard package.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Elsmere%2C%20DelawareWhere are the best campgrounds near Elsmere for an RV stay?
You're surrounded by great RV camping Elsmere options. Lums Pond State Park (about 25 minutes south in Bear) offers water and electric sites beside Delaware's largest freshwater pond plus the Go Ape zipline course. Cape Henlopen State Park (about 90 minutes to Lewes) puts you steps from the Atlantic and historic Fort Miles. Killens Pond State Park near Felton has water and electric sites and a summer waterpark. For private parks, Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort in Lincoln are family favorites. Reserve Delaware State Park sites up to one year in advance through the official Delaware State Parks reservation system, because oceanfront loops sell out fast for summer.
destateparks.com/campingWhen is the best time of year for an Elsmere RV trip?
Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for an Elsmere RV trip, and shoulder seasons are the smart-money move. Spring brings highs in the 60s to low 70s, blooming Brandywine Valley gardens, and fewer crowds. Summer (highs in the mid 80s to low 90s with humidity) is beach season at Rehoboth and Dewey, so book early. September and October stay mild (60s to 70s) with stunning fall color along the Brandywine and White Clay Creek. Winters average 30s to 40s, but Lums Pond and Trap Pond campgrounds stay open year-round for self-contained RVs. Pro tip: target the second week of September for warm beach water and off-peak pricing.
weather.gov/phi/I'm a first-time renter. How do I know what to do when I pick up the RV?
First time renting an RV? You'll be in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide-outs, awning, water and waste systems, generator, propane, and the dashboard controls. They'll answer questions, share local tips for Elsmere-area driving, and give you their direct phone number for the trip. If anything feels unclear once you're on the road, message them straight from the RVezy app. Many local hosts also include a printed cheat sheet. Pro tip: ask your host to walk you through the dump station routine twice. Knowing that one process turns nervous first-timers into confident campers by day two.
destateparks.com/rv-camping/What happens if I break down or have an issue during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on Route 1 heading to the beach, a dead battery at Lums Pond, or a lockout in the Christiana Mall parking lot, one call dispatches help any time of day. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting, since most issues are simpler than they look, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before leaving Elsmere so you're not hunting for it on the shoulder of I-95.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Elsmere RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome, and Elsmere is perfectly positioned for it. A popular RV road trip from Elsmere heads south to Chincoteague and Assateague (about 3 hours), or north to the Poconos and Finger Lakes. You can also cross into Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, or up to New England without issue, since RVezy coverage extends across the U.S. Cross-border trips into Canada may be possible depending on the host and protection plan, so message the host before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend there.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan on roughly 8-13 miles per gallon for most motorhome rental Elsmere options, with campervans on the higher end and Class A rigs on the lower end. The great news: Delaware regularly posts some of the lowest gas prices on the East Coast, often 20-40 cents per gallon cheaper than New Jersey or Pennsylvania. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop to Rehoboth and back, budget roughly $90-130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Wawa stations along Route 13 or Route 141 before crossing into Maryland or New Jersey, where prices climb noticeably. Delaware's tiny footprint keeps total fuel spend refreshingly low.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Elsmere?
For summer weekends at Delaware State Parks, book the moment your dates are set. The official Delaware State Parks reservation system opens bookings up to 11 months in advance, and oceanfront loops at Delaware Seashore and Cape Henlopen fill within hours for July and August. Lums Pond and Trap Pond (year-round campgrounds) are slightly easier but still book months ahead for holiday weekends. For private parks like Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Lincoln or Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay, aim for 3 to 6 months out. Pro tip: shoulder-season weekends in May, September, and October often have availability just 2 to 3 weeks ahead, perfect for spontaneous trips.
destateparks.com/camping/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like in and around Elsmere?
Driving an RV in Elsmere is very manageable, though knowing a few local quirks helps. I-95 runs right past town and gets heaviest Friday afternoons heading to the shore and Sunday evenings returning, so aim to travel mid-day or early morning. Watch height clearances on older underpasses along Route 4 and Maryland Avenue (some are under 12 feet), and skip the narrow streets of downtown Wilmington with a big rig. Route 1 south to the beaches is wide, flat, and RV-friendly. Pro tip: if city driving makes you nervous, book a host who offers RV delivery Elsmere so the rig meets you at the campground instead.
deldot.gov/traffic/index.shtmlWhat amenities do campgrounds near Elsmere offer for hookups, dumping, and water?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped. Lums Pond State Park, the closest to Elsmere, offers water and electric hookups plus a sanitary dump station near the campground entrance. Killens Pond, Trap Pond, and Cape Henlopen all have dump stations and water fill spigots, and Delaware Seashore State Park features full-hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer at the Indian River Marina. Most private parks like Yogi Bear's and Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay include full hookups and Wi-Fi. Note: outside firewood is restricted in Delaware State Parks to help prevent spotted lanternfly spread, so plan to buy it on-site. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground, since some spigots are shut off in late fall for the winter season.
destateparks.com/campingWhat's typically included inside an Elsmere RV rental?
Plenty. A typical campervan rental Elsmere or motorhome on RVezy comes ready to camp, with sleeping for 2-8 people, a kitchen (fridge, stove, sink, often a microwave), a bathroom with toilet and shower in Class B, C, and larger rigs, climate control, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, basic cookware, linens, and a generator or solar setup. Wi-Fi is host-dependent, but cell coverage across northern Delaware is excellent. Every listing spells out exactly what's included, so you'll know before you book. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count first to make sure the family RV trip Elsmere setup fits everyone comfortably.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat add-ons, pickup options, and mileage policies should I expect from Elsmere hosts?
Hosts in Elsmere offer a mix of perks that customize your trip. Common add-ons include linen and kitchen kits, bikes, kayaks or paddleboards (great for Lums Pond), generators, portable grills, outdoor chairs, and pet-clean fees. Many hosts offer free delivery within a set radius of Elsmere and charge a per-mile fee beyond, often reaching down to Dewey Beach or up to West Chester. Mileage policies vary: some include 100-150 free miles per night, others offer unlimited mileage for an upgrade. All pricing, add-ons, and policies are clearly listed on each RV's page. Pro tip: message hosts about bundled add-on discounts; many will package linens, camp chairs, and a propane tank refill at a lower combined rate.
usa.gov/travelHow does payment work, and what should I expect for the security deposit?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card, never directly to the host, so your booking is protected from start to finish. A refundable security deposit is held (not charged) on your card before the trip, and the exact amount is shown on the listing and depends on the RV and protection plan you choose. As long as the RV is returned in the same condition, with the agreed mileage and a full propane and fuel tank, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, including the odometer, so any post-trip questions are answered in seconds.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Elsmere overnight if I'm not at a campground?
Where to park an RV in Elsmere overnight comes down to a few solid options. Overnight street parking in residential Elsmere generally isn't permitted for recreational vehicles, so plan to be at a campground, a host's driveway, or a designated lot. The Delaware House Travel Plaza on I-95 works for short rest stops, and some big-box retailers in the New Castle area sometimes allow overnight stays (always call the manager first to confirm, since policies change). For an actual stay, Lums Pond State Park is just 25 minutes south and open year-round. Pro tip: if your host delivers the RV, ask them to bring it directly to your campsite so you skip the overnight-parking puzzle entirely.
