🌄 Our First RV Adventure—10 Days of Fun & Freedom! - This was our very first RV vacation, and while we were a little hesitant at first, Bill made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. He was incredibly helpful—available before, during, and even after our trip to answer questions and offer support. His thorough walkthrough before we hit the road gave us confidence, especially with tips on what to do in different situations. We took the RV for 10 days from South Florida to the mountains of Maryland, stopping at six different campgrounds and even plugging in at my sister’s and in-laws’ homes for a few nights. The RV had everything we needed and was in great shape—clean, well-equipped, and surprisingly easy to drive. We returned it with just a minor hubcap issue and no other problems, which felt like a blessing after such a big trip. We had an absolute blast and would highly recommend this RV to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and fun way to travel. Thanks again, Bill!

Far and away a better experience than we could have hoped for. Sassy was the PERFECT RV for us. Very clean, adequate space (2 adults and a dog), well stocked with useful items and just all around fantastic. We traveled from CT to West Virginia, the trip just wouldn't have been the same without such comfortable accommodations. The couple was informative and incredibly flexible and accommodating with our unique schedule. We truly cannot say enough good things about our experience. We're already beginning to plan our next trip with Sassy. Thanks so much!!

Dealing with Scott was fantastic! This was my first time renting a trailer and he made things a breeze. He was very easy to communicate with and delivered as promised. We opted for delivery and he was right on time for drop off and pick up! Very helpful throughout the process. As for the trailer, it was exactly as advertised. It was extremely clean and well maintained. Even stocked with cookware, utensils, and dishes. As well as towels, pillows, and bed linens, all clean, fresh and neatly folded. The campground we stayed at did not have electric hookups, so we rented his generator as well. Worked great, easy start up and was decent on fuel consumption. I saw a review complaining about rodents, but there were absolutely no signs of them anywhere. I would absolutely recommend Scott and his trailer to anyone and plan to use him in the future!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Hagerstown, MD

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Hagerstown, MD?

RV rental in Hagerstown is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Mid-Atlantic, with most rigs running between $95 and $225 per night depending on type and season. Campervan rental Hagerstown options like Class B vans typically sit at the lower end, while spacious Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels land higher. Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Hagerstown?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Hagerstown for the vast majority of rigs on RVezy. Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration does not require a commercial license for personal-use motorhomes and recreational vehicles, which covers nearly every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on the platform. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your identification during booking, so there's nothing extra to bring on pickup day beyond your license itself. Most first-time renters in Washington County are surprised how quick the process is.

What protection is included with my Hagerstown RV rental?

Every RV rental in Hagerstown booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right in, so you can hit Interstate 70 (I-70) or Interstate 81 (I-81) feeling confident. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV and gives you significant financial peace of mind. You choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host, so you can pick what feels right for your trip. Whether it's a flat tire on the way to Antietam, a dead battery at Greenbrier State Park, or a lockout near downtown Hagerstown, RVezy's roadside team is one call away, day or night.

What if I need to cancel my Hagerstown RV trip?

Booking with confidence is the whole point: RVezy applies a consistent cancellation policy on every reservation, including a money-back grace period after you book so you can lock in your dates without stress. Cancellation terms depend on how far out your trip is, and special situations like severe weather or natural disasters can come into play, which matters in Western Maryland where winter storms and remnants of Atlantic hurricanes can affect late-summer plans. Cancellations are handled through RVezy, not by individual hosts, so you get consistent support either way. Pro tip: book early to secure the best rigs for Antietam anniversary weekends in September, and you'll still have flexibility if plans shift.

Once you're on the road, Greenbrier State Park has two dedicated pet-friendly camping loops with leashed access to trails, and Washington Monument State Park along the Appalachian Trail also allows leashed pets. The C&O Canal Towpath running right past Williamsport is one of the best dog-walking spots in the region, with 184.5 miles of flat, shaded path along the Potomac River. Bring proof of vaccinations and a few extra towels, your host will appreciate it and your deposit will thank you.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway?

Yes, RV delivery in Hagerstown is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a 30-foot rig down Dual Highway. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at Greenbrier State Park, Hagerstown/Antietam Battlefield KOA in Williamsport, or even your own driveway, then walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees usually run by the mile from the host's location, so closer campgrounds cost less. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message hosts to confirm your destination and ask if hookup setup is included. It's the easiest way to start a motorhome rental in Hagerstown with zero stress.

Greenbrier State Park in Boonsboro offers 165 wooded sites and a 42-acre lake with a sandy beach, just 15 minutes east. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Williamsport is a hit with families thanks to its pool complex and themed weekends. When is the best time to visit Hagerstown in an RV?

The sweet spot for RV camping Hagerstown runs from mid-April through late October, with average highs climbing from the upper 60s in spring to the mid-80s in July and back to the mid-70s in October. May and September are the local insider's picks: comfortable 70 to 80 degree days, fewer bugs, lower campground prices, and stunning views as the South Mountain hardwoods turn gold in mid to late October. July and August are warm and humid (highs near 86°F), so look for rigs with strong air conditioning. Winter is doable for hardy travelers, but expect overnight lows in the 20s and occasional snowfall, around 17 to 25 inches per year on average.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I get help figuring it out?

First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, and dump procedures before you head out. You can also message your host before booking with any questions, no pressure, no awkwardness. Most Hagerstown hosts are seasoned RVers who love helping new families get started, and RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip if anything comes up. Pro tip: pick a simpler Class C motorhome or travel trailer for your first rent an RV in Hagerstown experience, and book a nearby campground like Greenbrier State Park so you're not learning on the highway.
nps.gov/anti/planyourvisit/index.htm

What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?

Take a breath, you're covered. Every RV rental in Hagerstown booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 40, a battery issue at the KOA, or a tow off Interstate 81 is just a phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch service for tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also a direct resource for quirks specific to their rig, since they know it best. Save both numbers in your phone before you leave the pickup spot. The Western Maryland area has plenty of RV-friendly service shops in Hagerstown and Frederick if a repair is ever needed.

Can I take my Hagerstown RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Absolutely, that's part of the magic of an RV road trip from Hagerstown. You're 10 minutes from Pennsylvania, 20 minutes from West Virginia, and about an hour from Virginia, so most renters cross at least one state line on a long weekend. Cross-border travel into Canada is allowed on many RVezy rentals, but it depends on the host and insurance coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular multi-state routes from Hagerstown include the Civil War Trail (Antietam to Gettysburg to Harpers Ferry) and the Skyline Drive loop through Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validity

What should I budget for fuel on a Hagerstown RV trip?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on any RV trip, so it pays to plan ahead. Most Class C motorhomes in the Hagerstown area get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG while towing). Maryland gas prices generally run a few cents above the national average, and you'll find competitive prices at the Sheetz and Costco stations along Dual Highway and Halfway Boulevard near I-81. Budget around $80 to $150 per day in fuel for a typical regional loop. Pro tip: fill up in West Virginia just across the Potomac, where fuel taxes are often a bit lower.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Hagerstown?

For peak summer weekends and any date tied to Antietam's anniversary in September, book your campground as soon as your RV is reserved. Maryland State Park campgrounds like Greenbrier and Fort Frederick open reservations 12 months in advance through parkreservations.maryland.gov, and popular electric sites sell out fast for Memorial Day, July 4th, and fall foliage weekends. Private parks like Hagerstown/Antietam Battlefield KOA and Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Williamsport also fill quickly, you can book those directly on their websites. For midweek trips in May or September, you'll often find sites available within a week or two. Pro tip: set a cancellation alert on Campnab if your first-choice site is full, spots open up daily.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/

What are the driving conditions like around Hagerstown?

Driving an RV around Hagerstown is genuinely beginner-friendly compared to most East Coast metros. I-70 and I-81 are wide, well-maintained interstates that meet right in town, and U.S. Route 40 (the historic National Pike) offers a slower, scenic alternative through Boonsboro and South Mountain. Watch for two specific things: low-clearance railroad bridges on some downtown Hagerstown streets (stick to truck routes for rigs over 11 feet), and steep grades on the Route 40 climb over South Mountain headed east. Winter trips (December through March) can bring snow and ice, so check Maryland 511 (511md.maryland.gov) before driving. Otherwise, expect easy cruising and gorgeous Cumberland Valley farmland views.
chart.maryland.gov/

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Hagerstown?

Campgrounds near Hagerstown range from full-service resorts to rustic, hookup-free state park sites, so you can pick the experience you want. Hagerstown/Antietam Battlefield KOA and Yogi Bear's Jellystone offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and propane refills. Greenbrier State Park has 40 electric sites in the Cedar Loop plus a dump station, hot showers, and potable water spigots throughout. Most C&O Canal campsites along the Potomac are primitive (no hookups, vault toilets only) but free. Where to fill water and dump tanks: KOA, Jellystone, and Greenbrier's dump station all welcome day-use customers for a small fee. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot fresh water hose and a 90-degree sewer elbow, common at Maryland sites.
nps.gov/choh/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm

What's inside a typical RV rental in Hagerstown?

Even budget-friendly rigs come stocked for real-deal comfort. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 people depending on layout, heating and air conditioning, fresh water and gray/black tanks, and seatbelts for everyone in motion. Most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers around Hagerstown include a TV, propane connections, an awning, and a generator or shore power hookup. Many hosts also offer Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor camp chairs, bedding kits, and kitchen starter packs as add-ons. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities tab before booking, and message the host to confirm anything specific like a bike rack or pet ramp, they'll usually accommodate small requests.
energy.gov/energysaver/rvs

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

RVezy hosts in Hagerstown offer a great mix of add-ons that can level up your trip. Common extras include bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generator rentals or fuel surcharges (often $3 to $5 per generator hour), bike racks, outdoor grills, propane refills, and pet cleaning fees ($25 to $50). Pickup and dropoff usually happen at the host's home base around Hagerstown, Williamsport, or Smithsburg, though many offer delivery to your campground for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, expect 100 to 150 free miles per night with $0.30 to $0.50 per extra mile, or splurge on a host who offers unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you book to skip last-minute hassles.
visithagerstown.com/

How does the security deposit and payment work?

Booking is straightforward: you pay through RVezy's secure platform, never directly to the host. Your total includes the nightly rate, service fee, protection plan, and any add-ons you choose. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after dropoff once the host confirms the rig was returned clean, on time, and damage-free. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with the host at both pickup and return, take dated photos, follow the mileage and generator policies, and empty the tanks if your agreement requires it. Most Hagerstown renters get their full deposit back within a few days of returning.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I rent an RV in Hagerstown in winter?

Yes, winter RV rental in Hagerstown is absolutely doable and can be a magical way to see the Cumberland Valley dusted in snow. Many hosts offer winter-ready rigs with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and the ability to plug into shore power at year-round campgrounds. Hagerstown/Antietam Battlefield KOA stays open through winter with electric and water hookups, and you can still explore Antietam National Battlefield with far fewer crowds. Average lows hit the low 20s in January with 17 to 25 inches of annual snowfall, so confirm with your host that the RV is rated for cold weather and ask about antifreeze procedures. Pro tip: book a site with full hookups so your fresh water line stays usable.
