🌄 Our First RV Adventure—10 Days of Fun & Freedom! - This was our very first RV vacation, and while we were a little hesitant at first, Bill made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. He was incredibly helpful—available before, during, and even after our trip to answer questions and offer support. His thorough walkthrough before we hit the road gave us confidence, especially with tips on what to do in different situations. We took the RV for 10 days from South Florida to the mountains of Maryland, stopping at six different campgrounds and even plugging in at my sister’s and in-laws’ homes for a few nights. The RV had everything we needed and was in great shape—clean, well-equipped, and surprisingly easy to drive. We returned it with just a minor hubcap issue and no other problems, which felt like a blessing after such a big trip. We had an absolute blast and would highly recommend this RV to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and fun way to travel. Thanks again, Bill!

Great news for first time renters, your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Olney, Maryland. Booking with confidence is the whole point. RVezy applies a clear, platform wide cancellation policy to every Olney RV rental, including a grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates without second guessing yourself. When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Olney?

Olney has a true four season climate, and the sweet spots are mid April through mid June and again from early September through late October. Spring brings 60s and 70s with cherry blossoms blooming in DC and azaleas in Brookside Gardens. Fall delivers crisp 50 to 70 degree days and brilliant foliage in the Catoctin Mountains. Winter RV camping in Olney is possible at Greenbelt Park and Cherry Hill Park, both open year round, with January lows around 26°F. Pro tip: late September is the local favorite, kids back in school, campgrounds quiet, and weather perfect.

I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?

Yes, and Olney is actually a great place for your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide outs, awning, water system, propane, and dump valves before you drive away. You can message the host with questions any time, and the RVezy support team is reachable 24/7 if anything feels confusing later. For your first trip, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet, stay close with a two night booking at Little Bennett Regional Park (only 11 miles away), and use the host's delivery option if city driving makes you nervous. You have got this.

Can I take my Olney rental on an interstate road trip or across the border to Canada?

Absolutely, an RV road trip from Olney is one of the best ways to see the East Coast. Most hosts welcome travel throughout the lower 48, with popular routes including Olney to the Outer Banks, Olney to Acadia National Park in Maine, and the classic Blue Ridge Parkway loop through Virginia and North Carolina. Cross border travel to Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the insurance terms, so message the host directly through the listing to confirm before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. Pro tip: I-95 north toward New England and I-81 south toward the Smokies are both within easy reach of Olney.

What should I budget for fuel on a Maryland RV trip?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, and Maryland prices tend to track close to the national average. Expect a Class C motorhome to deliver 8 to 12 miles per gallon, a Class B campervan 16 to 20 mpg, and a truck pulling a travel trailer 10 to 14 mpg. With Olney area gas around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon and diesel slightly higher, a 300 mile round trip to Assateague in a Class C runs roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Costco in Gaithersburg and Wawa in Silver Spring consistently have the lowest local prices. Pro tip: fill up before crossing into the DC Beltway, where station prices can jump 20 to 30 cents per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Olney?

Book early and you will lock in the good spots. Maryland state parks like Patapsco Valley and Cunningham Falls open reservations one year in advance through ReserveAmerica and the Maryland Park Service, and prime summer weekends often sell out by February. Montgomery Parks campgrounds (including Little Bennett) take reservations through their county system and fill 3 to 6 months out for holiday weekends. National Park Service sites like Greenbelt Park and Catoctin's Owens Creek use Recreation.gov and open six months ahead. Private parks like Cherry Hill Park usually have more flexibility, often available 2 to 4 weeks out. Pro tip: cherry blossom weekends in late March and early April book up first, so set a calendar reminder.
recreation.gov/

What are driving conditions like in and around Olney?

Olney itself is easygoing, with Georgia Avenue (MD-97) and Olney-Laytonsville Road as the main routes through town, both RV friendly. The trickier driving is around the DC metro: the Capital Beltway (I-495) and I-270 see heavy weekday rush hours from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., so plan departures for midday or early morning. Watch for the 13 foot 6 inch clearance signs on older parkways like Rock Creek and the Baltimore Washington Parkway, which prohibit commercial vehicles and tall rigs. Winter can bring ice and occasional snow from December through February. Pro tip: if highway driving makes you nervous, book delivery and skip the Beltway entirely for your Olney RV trip.
roads.maryland.gov/Index.aspx?PageId=246

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Olney?

You will find a strong mix of full service and rustic options for RV camping in Olney. Cherry Hill Park in College Park offers full hookups (water, sewer, 50 amp electric), free WiFi, a pool, dog park, and shuttle to the DC Metro. Little Bennett Regional Park has electric and water at most sites, a central dump station, and modern bathhouses with hot showers. Greenbelt Park has electric and water hookups, a dump station, and flush toilets. For water fills and dump stations on the road, both Little Bennett and Greenbelt allow non guests to use facilities for a small fee. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground, since many trailhead parking areas in Montgomery County have no potable water.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htm

What features and equipment come with an Olney RV rental?

Most motorhome rentals in Olney come fully equipped and ready to camp. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk for kids, a full kitchen with fridge, propane stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Class A and Class C rigs usually have rooftop AC, a propane furnace, a generator or shore power inverter, and seatbelts for every passenger, which is required by Maryland law. Many hosts also include outdoor chairs, a folding table, a hose, and a sewer kit. Larger Class A coaches often add a flat screen TV, residential fridge, and WiFi booster. Check the listing's amenities tab and message your host to confirm bedding, towels, and kitchen kits are included.
mva.maryland.gov/safety/Pages/MarylandSeatBeltLaw.aspx

What add-ons and options can I get with my Olney rental?

Lots of ways to customize your campervan rental in Olney or full size motorhome. Popular add-ons include generator use ($3 to $5 per hour), bike racks ($25 to $50 per trip), camping chairs and tables ($10 to $20), portable grills, kayak racks, linen and bedding packages ($30 to $75), and kitchen kits with pots, pans, and utensils. Pickup typically happens at the host's home in Olney, Brookeville, Silver Spring, or Gaithersburg, with delivery available for an extra fee. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night with overage at $0.35 to $0.45 per mile, and many offer unlimited mileage upgrades. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you message the host, since many will discount the package.

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects you and creates a clear record of your booking. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup, with the amount set by the host based on the RV, and is released after return assuming no damage or extra cleaning. To avoid issues, take date stamped photos of the rig inside and out at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's mileage and generator limits, and return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels you received. Transparent, protected, and built for trust.

Can I rent an RV in Olney during winter?

Yes, a winter RV rental in Olney, Maryland is absolutely doable and a beautifully quiet way to experience the region. January averages a high near 42°F and a low near 25°F, so look for listings tagged as four season or winter ready, which feature heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces. Both Cherry Hill Park in College Park and Greenbelt Park stay open year round with electric hookups, so you can run a space heater and stay cozy even on cold nights. Pro tip: book a campsite with full hookups and shore power, use RV antifreeze in any unused water lines per your host's instructions, and enjoy snow dusted hikes at Rachel Carson Conservation Park with zero crowds.
