Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Franklin, NJ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Franklin, NJ?
RV rental in Franklin, NJ is more affordable than most travelers expect, with nightly rates typically ranging from about $90 for a compact campervan to $250 or more for a fully loaded Class A motorhome. Travel trailers and pop-ups in the Sussex County area often land in the $100 to $175 range, making them a sweet spot for families. To find a cheap RV rental in Franklin, book midweek dates, target shoulder seasons in April, May, late September, and October, and use the price filter on RVezy to sort by budget. Pro tip: many hosts offer multi-night discounts after three or seven nights, so a longer trip to High Point State Park can actually lower your per-night rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Franklin%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Franklin, NJ?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Franklin, NJ. New Jersey does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or campervans under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every RV on RVezy. You must be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and your identity is verified through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. You'll be ready to head north on Route 23 toward the Kittatinny Ridge in no time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Franklin, NJ protected if something goes wrong?
Yes. Every RV rental in Franklin booked on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 80 or Route 15 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle, and during checkout you choose the coverage level that fits your trip. This is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides significant financial protection for renters and is built specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals. Combined with RVezy's customer support team, you've got backup from the moment you book until you return the keys. Most first-timers tell us this is what helped them feel confident clicking book.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Franklin, NJ trip plans change?
Plans change, and RVezy is built to make cancellations as low-stress as possible. RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy for every booking, and that policy includes a grace period after booking when you can cancel and get your money back. Refunds beyond that window depend on how far out your trip is and on extraordinary circumstances like severe weather, which matters in northwest New Jersey where summer thunderstorms and winter snow can pop up. You'll see the exact terms during checkout and in your booking confirmation. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best RVs around Franklin, knowing flexibility is baked in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Franklin, NJ?
Absolutely, dogs are welcome on plenty of trips around Franklin. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental Franklin NJ hosts offer, then message the host with your pup's size and breed to confirm. Sussex County is a dream for dog owners: Sawmill Lake at High Point State Park allows leashed pets at most campsites, and Stokes State Forest welcomes pets at family sites 101 through 137 in the Shotwell area. Wawayanda State Park trails are also leash-friendly. Pro tip: pack a tie-out stake, a collapsible water bowl, and a towel for muddy paws after Appalachian Trail hikes.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/stokes-state-forest/Can the RV be delivered to me in Franklin, NJ?
Yes, RV delivery in Franklin is widely available on RVezy. Many local hosts will drive the RV straight to your campsite at Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm in Stillwater, Sawmill Lake at High Point State Park, or even your driveway in Franklin Borough, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. This is the easiest way to start your first time renting an RV because you skip the towing and the parking-lot learning curve entirely. Just toggle the Delivery filter on RVezy, enter your destination, and you'll see which hosts deliver and their per-mile rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Franklin%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I drive on a Franklin, NJ RV trip?
You can cover a lot of ground from Franklin thanks to its sweet-spot location in northwest New Jersey. Many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage for road-trippers. Popular runs from Franklin include the Delaware Water Gap (about 35 miles southwest), the Catskills around Phoenicia, NY (about 90 miles north), the Poconos near Jim Thorpe, PA (about 75 miles west), and Cape May at the Jersey Shore (about 175 miles south). Pro tip: check the listing's mileage policy before booking and message the host if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Franklin, since many will happily add miles for a flat rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Franklin%2C%20New%20JerseyWhere are the best campgrounds near Franklin, NJ?
You're spoiled for choice with great campgrounds within an hour of Franklin. High Point State Park's Sawmill Lake Campground (about 20 miles north) offers 50 lakeside sites under hemlocks at New Jersey's highest elevation. Stokes State Forest in Branchville has Shotwell, Ocquittunk, and Steam Mill campgrounds across 16,000-plus acres. Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm in Stillwater is a full-hookup family resort with a pool and farm animals. Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 15 miles north) offers year-round full-hookup sites. For RV camping Franklin NJ guests rave about, reserve High Point and Stokes through camping.nj.gov up to 11 months in advance, especially for fall foliage weekends in October.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/high-point-state-park/When is the best time to rent an RV in Franklin, NJ?
The sweet spot for a Franklin RV trip runs from late April through late October, with three standout windows. Late spring (May to mid-June) brings 65 to 78 degree days, blooming mountain laurel, and quieter campgrounds. Summer (July and August) is warm at 75 to 88 degrees, perfect for swimming at Lake Marcia in High Point State Park. The local secret is fall: late September through mid-October delivers spectacular foliage across the Kittatinny Ridge, crisp 50 to 70 degree afternoons, and ideal campfire nights. Most state park campgrounds close at the end of October, so book those weekends early. Winter rentals are available too for snowshoeing and cozy heated-RV getaways.
weather.gov/phi/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting in Franklin?
You're going to be just fine, and Franklin is actually a great launchpad for first-time renters. Rural Sussex County has wide two-lane roads, gentle terrain, and far less traffic than the I-95 corridor, so you can build confidence on Route 23 or Route 94 before heading anywhere bigger. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, and the dump valves, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Choosing a Class B campervan or a 22-foot Class C makes things easier still. Pro tip: do a short practice loop around the Franklin Pond area before pointing toward High Point.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003136854-For-RentersWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
You're never alone on an RVezy trip. Every booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, lockouts, jump starts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. Whether you're parked at Stokes State Forest, climbing toward Sunrise Mountain, or cruising I-84 toward the Catskills, help is one phone call away. RVezy's customer support team is also reachable around the clock to coordinate with your host. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before pickup and snap a photo of your RV's VIN and license plate, which makes any call faster and smoother.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Franklin, NJ RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Absolutely, and that's one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Franklin. You're about 5 miles from New York, 25 miles from Pennsylvania, and a straight shot up I-87 toward the Canadian border, so multi-state trips are easy. Travel within the United States is standard on RVezy bookings. Crossing into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the insurance terms, so message the host directly from the listing page before booking to confirm. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular cross-border runs from Franklin include the Adirondacks, Niagara Falls, and the Pocono Mountains.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Franklin, NJ RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Class B campervans around Franklin typically get 17 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A rigs get 6 to 10 MPG. New Jersey gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, and as a bonus, it's a full-service state, so an attendant pumps for you. For a 4-night, 300-mile loop to High Point and Stokes State Forest in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in NJ before crossing into NY or PA, where prices are often higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Franklin, NJ?
Earlier is better, especially for the fall foliage rush. New Jersey state park campgrounds at High Point and Stokes accept reservations through the official New Jersey State Park Service reservation system. For summer weekends and any October dates, aim to book 4 to 6 months ahead. Private resorts like Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm and Black Bear Campground also fill fast on holiday weekends. Midweek and shoulder-season trips are much easier and you can often score a spot a week out. Pro tip: set up an availability notification on the NJ Outdoors reservation site, which emails you the moment a cancellation opens up at your preferred park.
camping.nj.gov/What are the local driving conditions like around Franklin, NJ?
Driving around Franklin is genuinely pleasant for an RV. The town sits at the edge of the Skylands region, with rolling hills, two-lane state roads, and minimal highway congestion compared to central or southern New Jersey. Route 23, Route 94, and Route 15 are your main arteries and all handle RVs comfortably. Be mindful of a few things: the climb up to High Point Monument involves steady grades, leaf-peeping season brings extra weekend traffic on Route 23 in October, and winter can deliver ice and snow on Kittatinny Ridge roads. Pro tip: avoid the George Washington Bridge in a Class A and stay west toward Port Jervis if you're routing into New York.
state.nj.us/transportation/What hookups and amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Franklin?
Campgrounds around Franklin offer a wide range, so you can match the experience to your comfort level. Private resorts like Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm and Black Bear RV Park provide full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. State park campgrounds at High Point and Stokes State Forest are more rustic, with picnic tables, fire rings, pit or flush toilets, and water spigots, but no electric or sewer at the sites. There is no dump station inside High Point's campground, so plan to dump at a private park on the way home. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving any state park and bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/stokes-state-forest/What's typically included inside a motorhome rental in Franklin, NJ?
You'll feel right at home from minute one. A typical motorhome rental in Franklin comes with sleeping for 2 to 8 (combinations of queen beds, bunks, and convertible dinettes), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control, and seatbelted seats for travel. Most Class C and Class A rigs include a generator or solar for off-grid power, a TV, and a backup camera. Many hosts also throw in linens, kitchen kits, camp chairs, and outdoor mats. Pro tip: check the listing photos and amenities list, then message the host to confirm what's stocked. The campervan rental scene in Franklin also offers compact options for couples.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Franklin%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in the Franklin area offer some great extras to make your trip smoother. Common add-ons include linen and kitchen packages ($30 to $75), bike racks, kayak or paddleboard carriers, generators, portable grills, fire pits, and pet cleaning fees ($25 to $75). Pickup is usually at the host's home in Sussex County, but delivery to nearby campgrounds like Sawmill Lake or Pleasant Acres Farm is widely available for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary: many listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles around $0.30 to $0.45 each. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator add-on for a true turn-key experience and arrive at camp ready to relax.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Franklin%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card (never directly to the host), and your booking is confirmed once the host accepts. A refundable security deposit, typically between $500 and $1,500 depending on the RV, is placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after the trip if there's no damage or excess cleaning. To avoid any issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff, take date-stamped photos inside and out, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your contract calls for it. Pro tip: keep the receipt from your final fill-up handy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Franklin, NJ during the winter?
Yes, and winter can be a magical time for an RV trip in northwest New Jersey. Many local hosts on RVezy keep their rigs available year-round, with heated holding tanks, furnaces, and shore-power setups that handle Sussex County's typical 15 to 35 degree winter days. Year-round RV-friendly options include Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY, just 15 miles north of Franklin, which offers full winter hookups and easy access to skiing at Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, only 20 minutes away. Pro tip: ask your host about a heated water hose, skirt the underbelly if temps drop below 20, and dump tanks before they have a chance to freeze.
