Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Scotchtown, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Scotchtown, NY?
RV rental in Scotchtown is an affordable way to explore the Hudson Valley, with most travel trailers starting around $85 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes averaging $175 to $275 per night. Because every host on RVezy sets their own pricing, you can find great deals by booking midweek or traveling in the shoulder seasons of April, May, or late September. For the cheapest RV rental Scotchtown has to offer, filter by travel trailers, since they typically cost less than drivable motorhomes. Many Orange County hosts also offer weekly discounts that can take 10 to 20 percent off longer stays.

RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and identity verification is completed through the platform during checkout.

Depending on how far in advance you cancel, you may be eligible for a partial or full refund, and full details are shown clearly during checkout and in your RVezy account. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy helps guests rebook or provides a refund or credit. The takeaway: you can plan your Scotchtown RV trip ahead and still keep flexibility.

For state park camping, Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park is about 35 miles south with electric sites and lakeside loops. Book early for summer weekends, these fill up fast.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time of year for RV camping in Scotchtown?
Late spring through mid-fall is the sweet spot for RV camping Scotchtown style, with the best window running from mid-May to mid-October. Summer (June through August) brings warm days in the 80s with occasional humidity, perfect for swimming at nearby lakes. September and early October are arguably the very best, with crisp 60 to 70 degree days, fewer crowds, and the famous Hudson Valley foliage lighting up Bear Mountain and the Shawangunks. Many local campgrounds close from November through April due to cold winters and snowfall, so plan your booking between Memorial Day and mid-October for the widest selection of open parks and hosts.
weather.gov/aly/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Scotchtown beginner-friendly?
You're going to be in great hands, first time renting an RV in Scotchtown is easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, water, propane, slide-outs, the dump valve, and anything else you'll touch during your trip. If you're feeling unsure, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental Scotchtown listing, both drive much like a large van. Even better, book a host who offers delivery so the RV arrives set up and ready at your campground. The main routes around Scotchtown (I-84, Route 17/I-86, and Route 211) are wide and straightforward, giving you gentle terrain to build confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Scotchtown trip?

If something happens on I-84 heading to the Catskills or on Route 17 toward Sullivan County, simply call the number provided in your booking confirmation and a local service provider will be dispatched. Your host is also typically a quick text away and can troubleshoot small issues (like resetting the generator or fridge) in real time. Pro tip: snap a photo of the dashboard and any error lights when you call in, it speeds things up considerably.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Scotchtown?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so budgeting smart pays off. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon and campervans get 14 to 20 MPG, while travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG when towing). Gas prices around Scotchtown and Middletown tend to run slightly above the national average, so as a rule of thumb, budget roughly $0.35 to $0.50 per mile for a motorhome rental Scotchtown trip. For a weekend trip to Bear Mountain (about 60 miles round trip), figure $20 to $30 in fuel. Pro tip: filling up just off I-84 in Port Jervis is often a few cents cheaper than in town.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Scotchtown?
For peak summer weekends (late June through Labor Day) and fall foliage weekends in October, book your campground 3 to 6 months ahead, especially at Harriman State Park's Beaver Pond Campground and the Newburgh KOA, which fill up fast. New York State Parks campgrounds are reserved through ReserveAmerica with bookings opening up to 9 months in advance, while private parks like Black Bear and Oakland Valley take reservations directly through their websites. For weeknight or shoulder-season trips, you can often book just 1 to 2 weeks ahead. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are easier to score and usually a bit cheaper too.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What are driving conditions like around Scotchtown for an RV?
Driving an RV around Scotchtown is genuinely manageable, the area sits near the intersection of Route 17 (now I-86) and I-84, both wide highways with generous lanes and gentle grades that are RV-friendly. Heads up on two things: New York's parkways (like the Palisades and Taconic) ban commercial vehicles and most RVs, so route through interstates and US highways instead. Winter driving from December through March can bring snow and ice, especially on Catskill-bound routes like Route 17 west of Monticello. Summer thunderstorms can be intense but brief. Pro tip: use the 511NY app or website for real-time traffic and weather alerts on your route.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around Scotchtown?
You'll find a great range of amenities at campgrounds in the Scotchtown area, from full-hookup luxury to rustic state-park sites. Private parks like Black Bear Campground typically offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, and sewer), pools, laundry, camp stores, and Wi-Fi. State park options like Beaver Pond at Harriman provide electric sites with access to dump stations and potable water fills near the entrance. Newburgh KOA adds extras like a propane refill station and family activities. Most parks have clean bathhouses with hot showers. Pro tip: confirm whether your specific site is full hookup or just water/electric when you book, sewer hookups are the difference between dumping daily or not at all.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's actually inside a typical RV rental in Scotchtown?
You'll be surprised how well-equipped these rigs are. A typical RV rental in Scotchtown includes real beds (usually sleeping 4 to 8 people), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control via air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelts for safe travel up to the listed sleeping capacity. Many also come with a generator, TV, outdoor awning, and propane BBQ. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others don't, so confirm in the listing if you need to stay connected. For a family RV trip Scotchtown style, look for bunkhouse travel trailers, kids love having their own dedicated sleeping nook.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Scotchtown%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options come with a Scotchtown RV rental?

Mileage policies vary by listing, with 100 to 150 free miles per night being typical. Pro tip: review the add-on list before booking and bundle what you need, it's often cheaper than buying or renting elsewhere.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Scotchtown%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Scotchtown?
Payment is simple and secure, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host. Your trip total (rental fee, protection plan, taxes, and any add-ons) is charged when you book, with no surprise fees later. A refundable security deposit is also placed as a hold on your card before pickup, with the amount set by the host based on the RV's value. The deposit is released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short walk-around video at both pickup and drop-off, it's the best way to ensure your full deposit comes back quickly.
