2020 Forest River Travel Trailer
This was our family’s first time renting an RV after years of tent camping, and it was a great experience overall. Michael was an excellent host. He delivered the RV to our campsite, had everything set up and ready to go, and took the time to explain how everything worked. As first-time RV renters, that made the experience stress-free and much less intimidating. The RV itself was exactly what we needed for our family of four. It was spacious enough to sleep comfortably, kept us cool during the hot weather, kept us dry through the rain, and everything worked as expected. We spent most of our time outdoors and primarily used the RV for sleeping, and it was perfect for that. The only reason I’m mentioning this is so future renters know what to expect. When we first arrived, there was a noticeable odor inside the RV. As the trip went on, it seemed to be coming from the bathroom/holding tank area. When I mentioned it to Michael at pickup, he was very open about it and explained that it’s something he has to deep clean every few rentals to eliminate the smell. I appreciated his honesty, but since it’s a known issue rather than a one-time occurrence, I think it’s fair for future renters to be aware of it. Other than that, we had a fantastic experience. Michael was friendly, responsive, and easy to work with, and I wouldn’t hesitate to rent from him again

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ashland%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Ashland, PA?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ashland, PA. Pennsylvania does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or RV endorsement for any motorhome or trailer available on RVezy, including Class A, Class C, and large fifth wheels. You will need to be 25 or older and upload a clear photo of your license during the quick approved-driver check on RVezy. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), which most auto associations issue for around $20. Your host handles a full walkthrough at pickup, so first-time renters feel confident before turning the key.

You are covered from the moment you hit the road. Every RV rental in Ashland, PA booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat on Route 61 or need a tow off Centre Street, help is one phone call away. You choose your protection level at checkout (Basic, Standard, or Premium), and each plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip up to its stated limits. This is not traditional auto insurance, but it gives you a clear financial backstop so you can focus on exploring the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine and the surrounding Coal Region.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Ashland RV trip?
Booking is low risk. RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy for every booking, and there is a short money-back grace period right after you book so you have time to confirm your plans. After that window, the refund amount depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. RVezy support also reviews situations outside your control, such as severe weather or natural disasters, which can matter during a snowy Schuylkill County winter or an early-fall storm. You will see the full policy details during checkout and inside your RVezy account, and customer support is available before, during, and after your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Ashland RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Ashland is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching, and you'll see listings from hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Many hosts ask for a small pet fee and request that pets stay off furniture, which the listing will spell out clearly. Once you're on the road, your pup will love nearby trails like the Ashland Anthracite Railroad Trail and the dog-friendly loops at Locust Lake State Park. Tuscarora State Park also allows leashed pets in its day-use and camping areas. Pack a tie-out, a collapsible bowl, and current vaccination records, and you're set for a happy co-pilot adventure.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/PetsInParks.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Ashland?
Yes, RV delivery in Ashland is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV right to your campsite at Locust Lake State Park, Lakewood Park Campground, or even a private property in the Ashland area, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location, and you'll see the exact charge before booking. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts who offer this service. It's a stress-free way to enjoy your first Ashland RV trip without ever getting behind the wheel of a big rig.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/LocustLakeStatePark/Pages/default.aspxHow far can I drive on my Ashland RV trip and is unlimited mileage available?

Many hosts on RVezy offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage for road-trip travelers, while others include a generous daily allowance (often 100 to 150 miles) with a small per-mile fee after that. Each listing shows its mileage policy upfront, so you can compare easily. From Ashland, popular drives are very doable: Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is about 35 miles south, Knoebels Amusement Resort is roughly 25 miles north, Hershey is around 60 miles southwest, and the Pocono Mountains sit about 60 miles east. penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Ashland, PA?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Ashland include Locust Lake State Park in Barnesville (about 10 miles east, with electric hookups, a swimming lake, and shaded sites), Lakewood Park Campground in Barnesville (a newer park with a 10-acre lake, cabins, and full hookups), Tuscarora State Park near Barnesville (great for quieter, lakeside RV camping in Ashland's backyard), Echo Valley Campground in Tremont (about 20 miles southwest, family-run with a pool), and Hidden Acres Campground in Pottsville. Most have dump stations and potable water fills on-site. Book Locust Lake well in advance through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system, especially for weekends from June through August.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/LocustLakeStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Ashland, PA?
Late spring through early fall is the sweet spot. The best window for RV camping in Ashland is mid-May through mid-October, with daytime highs of 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit in summer and crisp 55 to 70 degree days in September and early October. Fall foliage in Schuylkill County typically peaks in mid-October and is genuinely stunning along Route 61 and the surrounding ridges. Winters get cold (often dipping into the teens and twenties with snow), and most public campgrounds close from late October to mid-April. If you love smaller crowds, target the first two weeks of June or the entire month of September for a beautiful Ashland RV trip with mild weather and easy campsite availability.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the Ashland area?
You've got this, and Ashland is actually a great area for a first time renting an RV. Your host gives a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, dumping, and the propane and generator systems, and they're a text message away during your trip. Roads around Ashland are mostly two-lane country highways with light traffic, ideal for getting comfortable behind the wheel. Stick to Route 61, Route 209, and I-81 for the smoothest driving, and avoid narrow downtown side streets in old coal towns like Centralia. Take a slow loop around the campground before your first big drive, and consider booking a Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Ashland for the easiest handling.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem during my Ashland RV trip?
Help is always close. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of your renter protection plan, so whether you have a flat tire on I-81, a dead battery at Locust Lake State Park, or a lockout in downtown Ashland, you call the roadside number in your RVezy account and a service or tow truck is dispatched. You can also message your host directly through RVezy for quick questions, and the RVezy support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before pickup, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN, plate, and propane shutoff so you have everything handy if you ever need it.

visitpa.com/region/dutch-country-roadsHow much should I budget for fuel on an Ashland RV trip?
Easier than you'd think to plan. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run around $3.40 to $3.80 per gallon, with the Sheetz and Wawa stations along Route 61 and I-81 being reliably the cheapest near Ashland. For a 3-day, 300-mile loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $100 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Schuylkill County before heading into the Poconos, where prices can jump 20 to 30 cents per gallon at resort-town stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ashland?
Sooner is better, but you have options. For Pennsylvania state parks like Locust Lake and Tuscarora, reservations open 11 months in advance through the official DCNR reservation system, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) book up within hours. For private parks like Lakewood Park Campground and Echo Valley Campground, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually enough for summer Saturdays. Mid-week stays often have same-week availability, even in July. Pro tip: if your weekend dates are sold out, look at Sunday-through-Thursday windows; many Ashland-area campgrounds offer discounted weeknight rates, and you'll have the lake and trails almost to yourself.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Ashland, PA?
Driving in and around Ashland is genuinely beginner-friendly. The terrain is rolling Appalachian ridges with gradual grades, two-lane state routes like Route 61 and Route 54, and very little stop-and-go traffic. Watch for a few specific things: narrow streets in old coal towns (skip driving big rigs through downtown Centralia and Mahanoy City), occasional deer crossings at dawn and dusk along forested stretches, and winter snow squalls between November and March that can quickly cut visibility on I-81. PennDOT's 511PA app shows live road conditions, construction, and weather alerts. Stick to main routes, top off fuel before mountain stretches, and you'll find motorhome rental in Ashland is one of the more relaxing drives in the Northeast.
511pa.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Ashland?
You'll have what you need to settle in fast. Most campgrounds near Ashland offer 30 and 50 amp electric hookups, potable water spigots, and on-site dump stations. Locust Lake State Park has electric sites, hot showers, flush toilets, a swimming beach, and a sanitary dump station near the campground entrance. Lakewood Park Campground offers full hookups (water, sewer, electric) plus Wi-Fi and a camp store. Tuscarora State Park provides rustic sites with vault toilets and a dump station. Need to fill fresh water or dump tanks between stops? Most private parks let non-guests pay a small fee (usually $10 to $15) to use the dump station. The DCNR park map shows every state park amenity at a glance.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/LocustLakeStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhat's included inside a typical Ashland RV rental?
A typical motorhome rental in Ashland from RVezy is a fully equipped home on wheels. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and bunk options (most sleep 4 to 8), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and roof air conditioning, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Most listings include a TV, and many add onboard generators, solar setups, or Wi-Fi hotspots, useful for streaming or remote work. Add-ons like camp chairs, outdoor grills, bedding packages, and bike racks are commonly available for a small fee. Each listing's amenities section shows exactly what is included, so a quick scan tells you everything before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ashland%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when booking?
You can tailor your trip to the exact experience you want. Popular add-ons from Ashland-area hosts include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, outdoor camping chairs and tables, portable grills, generators, bike racks, and propane fire pits. Pickup is usually at the host's home or property, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough covering every system. Many hosts also offer paid delivery within a 30 to 60 mile radius (covering Pottsville, Hazleton, Reading, and the Poconos), and some include campground setup. Mileage policies are listed on each page, often 100 to 150 miles per day with a small overage fee, or unlimited mileage on select rigs. Pick the options that match your itinerary and you are set.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ashland%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Ashland, PA through RVezy, you pay the full trip total upfront by credit or debit card directly on the platform, with no cash or off-platform transfers. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before pickup (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) and released after drop-off, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. Tip: do a detailed walkaround video at pickup and drop-off with your host, note any existing dings, and confirm fuel and propane levels. That five-minute habit prevents the vast majority of deposit issues.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Ashland during winter?
Yes, and winter can be magical in the Coal Region if you're prepared. Some RVezy hosts in the Ashland area keep their rigs available year-round, especially four-season trailers and motorhomes with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces. Use the search filter to find winter-ready listings and confirm with the host that the RV is winterized for active use (not storage). Most public campgrounds in Schuylkill County close from late October to mid-April, so plan to stay at private parks like Hidden Acres or set up at a private property with hookups. Pack heated water hoses, extra propane, snow boots, and tire chains, then enjoy cross-country skiing at nearby Sweet Arrow Lake or quiet snowy hikes at Tuscarora State Park.
