"Story" was a great RV and Joshua was an amazing host. This was our first time traveling in an RV and Joshua was very patient in answering all of our questions. He provided a very thorough orientation. The RV was fully equipped with everything we needed including kitchen/bath items, camping chairs, linens, etc. Everything was clean, well maintained, and exactly as described. We were able to boondock without any issues. Communication with Joshua was amazing and I highly recommend this rental.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Oakmont, PA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Oakmont, PA?

RV rental in Oakmont, PA is more affordable than you might expect, especially compared to flying or booking hotels for a Pittsburgh-area getaway. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A coaches run $250 to $400 per night. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can filter by your budget and even sort by cheap RV rental Oakmont options. Pro tip: midweek bookings in May or late September often unlock the best rates, and weekly trips usually come with discounted nightly pricing. Booking three to six weeks before a Steelers home game or Kennywood weekend keeps prices low and selection wide.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Oakmont, PA?

Good news for your Oakmont RV trip: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pennsylvania, even for big Class A motorhomes. Pennsylvania does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every rental on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork to chase down. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). Most first-time renters in the Pittsburgh area are surprised how quickly they're approved and on the road toward Ohiopyle or Presque Isle.

Is insurance and roadside assistance included with my Oakmont RV rental?

Yes, every RV rental in Oakmont booked through RVezy comes with a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit Route 28 with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. Roadside assistance handles flats, lockouts, tows, and battery jumps anywhere in Pennsylvania, day or night. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers on the booking screen and pick the one that matches your comfort level, especially if it is your first time renting an RV in Oakmont.

What if I need to cancel my Oakmont RV rental?

Booking an RV rental in Oakmont is low risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy, so it is consistent and renter friendly. There is a money back grace period right after booking, with additional flexibility depending on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. If plans change, you work directly with RVezy support, not the host. Pro tip: book earlier rather than later for popular dates like the Pittsburgh Marathon weekend or Memorial Day, because availability tightens fast and you still have flexibility built in.

They will level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees are set by each host and shown on the listing. When is the best time to take an RV trip from Oakmont?

Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an Oakmont RV trip, with three distinct flavors to choose from. June and early July bring warm 75 to 85 degree days, perfect for Lake Arthur and the Allegheny River. Late September into mid-October delivers Pennsylvania's legendary fall foliage across the Laurel Highlands and Allegheny National Forest, with crisp 55 to 70 degree afternoons. Spring (April to May) offers fewer crowds and blooming wildflowers at Ohiopyle. Winter is possible with a four-season RV, but most campgrounds close from November through March. Pro tip: book a Columbus Day weekend trip a few months out, the fall colors along Route 6 and the Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway are simply unforgettable.

I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay starting from Oakmont?

You've got this, and you won't be doing it alone. Every host on RVezy provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to drive, level, dump, fill water, and operate every appliance, so first time renting an RV feels approachable. Oakmont itself is a great launch point because you can avoid downtown Pittsburgh entirely by heading east on Route 28 or south on the Pennsylvania Turnpike toward the Laurel Highlands. If big-rig driving feels intimidating, choose a Class B campervan rental Oakmont or a compact travel trailer for your first trip. Pro tip: book delivery for your first rental, the host brings it to your campground, sets up everything, and you only have to drive home at the end.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspx

What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?

You're covered around the clock. Every motorhome rental Oakmont booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so a flat tire on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, a dead battery at Moraine State Park, or a lockout at Kennywood is just a quick phone call away. The roadside team handles towing, jump starts, tire changes, lockouts, and fuel delivery anywhere in PA. For anything mechanical, RVezy's support team helps coordinate repairs or a solution with your host. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave Oakmont, and snap photos of the RV's exterior at pickup and dropoff to make any claim, however unlikely, smooth and fast.

Can I take my Oakmont RV rental into other states or Canada?

Yes, and Oakmont is one of the best home bases in the country for a multi-state RV road trip from Oakmont. Most RVezy hosts welcome trips across state lines, so you can easily explore Ohio, West Virginia, New York, and Maryland. Popular runs include Niagara Falls (3.5 hours north), Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland (2 hours west), and the Outer Banks (about 8 hours south). Cross-border travel into Canada is sometimes allowed with host approval and confirmation that the protection package extends, so message them before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: ask your host upfront about any state or country restrictions so your route is locked in before you pull out of Oakmont.

What kind of fuel mileage should I budget for in western PA?

Plan smart and your fuel budget stays in check. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches run 6 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but figure 10 to 14 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so expect roughly $3.50 to $3.90 per gallon around Oakmont in 2025. A round trip from Oakmont to Ohiopyle in a Class C burns about $50 to $70 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Costco or Sam's Club in Monroeville before heading east, prices are noticeably lower than at turnpike service plazas.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far ahead should I reserve a campground in Pennsylvania?

Earlier is better, but you have options either way. Pennsylvania state parks open campground reservations up to 11 months in advance through the DCNR reservation system, and the best sites at Ohiopyle, Raccoon Creek, and Moraine fill up fast for summer weekends and holidays. For private campgrounds near Oakmont, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually plenty outside major holidays. Allegheny National Forest sites are bookable through Recreation.gov six months out. Pro tip: if you are flexible, target Sunday through Thursday stays, you will almost always find availability even in peak season, making your RV camping Oakmont trip easier to plan.

What are driving conditions like around Oakmont and Pittsburgh?

Driving an RV around Oakmont is very manageable once you know the local quirks. The Hulton Bridge connects Oakmont to Harmar with a 13-foot clearance, which is plenty for any RVezy rental. Avoid the Liberty Tubes and Squirrel Hill Tunnel during rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) since merging is tight. Route 28 north and the Pennsylvania Turnpike east are the easiest big-rig exits from town. Western PA hills mean you'll use lower gears on grades like the one near Donegal. Pro tip: download the 511PA app for live traffic, work zones, and winter road conditions, it's a lifesaver for Friday afternoon getaways out of the Pittsburgh metro.

What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Oakmont?

Western Pennsylvania campgrounds are well equipped for a comfortable stay. Most private parks near Oakmont offer full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, sewer), Wi Fi, hot showers, and a camp store. State parks such as Raccoon Creek and Moraine typically provide electric hookups, modern restrooms with showers, dump stations, and potable water fill stations, though full sewer at the site is less common. Most campgrounds sell firewood on site, as bringing outside wood is restricted due to invasive insects. Pro tip: if you are staying at a non hookup site, plan a dump station stop on your way back to Oakmont to keep cleanup quick and easy.

What's inside the RVs available for rent in Oakmont?

You'll be impressed by how home-like these rigs are. RVs on RVezy in the Oakmont area typically come with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 people depending on size, climate control with both furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone on board. Most also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and basic kitchen supplies. Many hosts add generators, Wi-Fi hotspots, or solar setups. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities checklist carefully, and if you want specific features like a king bed, bunk beds for kids, or an outdoor kitchen for tailgating Steelers games, just message the host, they often have add-ons that aren't visible in photos.

Standard pickup is usually at the host's home or storage lot, with a thorough walkthrough included. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per night to unlimited, all clearly listed before you book. How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure when you rent an RV in Oakmont through RVezy. You pay for your trip with a credit or debit card directly on the platform, never in cash to a host. A refundable security deposit is pre authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged, and released after dropoff once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. RVezy holds funds securely so both sides are protected. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at both pickup and dropoff and share it via the in app messenger, it is the single best way to ensure your full deposit is released quickly with no questions.
