2025 Forest River Travel Trailer
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Perfect Land Yacht! (Comfy quarters with none of the seasickness) Megan & Owen's was the RV we didn't know we needed! It was a great home away from home and made us the envy of our camping neighbors (especially when the rain showed up).  It was spacious and comfortable. There was good water pressure and temperature in the shower. The generator worked perfectly, keeping the trailer cool and the refrigerator cold!  The ambient lighting inside and out, along with the outdoor rug added a nice touch. The awning was perfect for us to sit outside and avoid the direct sun...and rain. The indoor/outdoor Bluetooth speakers were also nice. The convenience of control panels (for the lighting, awning, water, climate control and Bluetooth) were high tech enough for sophistication but low tech enough for us to manage. The RV was well-stocked with the necessities -- towels, linens,  dishes, soaps (bathroom and kitchen), toilet paper and even a fan -- lending to the feel of home. We didn't use the outdoor grill THIS time but look forward to using it next time. Owen was a great host and the booking process was seamless and straightforward, with clear communication and helpful tips provided every step of the way. He was very attentive to our questions before, during and after the rental. He dropped off the trailer, set everything up for us and picked it up promptly at our check out time. I can’t recommend this RV rental enough. If you're a seasoned camper or trying RVing for the first time, this is the way to go. We’re already planning our next trip!

RV rental in Luray is affordable compared to most national park gateway towns, with travel trailers often starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $175 to $275 per night on RVezy. Pricing depends on the RV's size, age, and season, with peak rates landing in October during Shenandoah's famous foliage weeks and on summer weekends. For a cheap RV rental in Luray, target Sunday through Thursday stays in late April, early May, or mid-September, when daily rates often drop 20 to 30 percent. What license do I need to rent an RV in Luray, Virginia?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Luray. Virginia does not require a commercial driver's license or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes, travel trailers, or campervans rented through RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy will verify your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the United States? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto club before flying in. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly verification clears, often within a few hours of submitting documents.

What's included for protection and peace of mind on my Luray RV rental?

Every RV rental in Luray booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance built into your reservation. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, which is reassuring when you're driving Skyline Drive or navigating campground loops at Big Meadows. During booking, you choose your protection level so you can dial in the coverage that matches your comfort. Pro tip: consider a higher protection tier if it's your first time renting an RV. The few extra dollars per night easily pay for themselves in confidence on those mountain roads.

What happens if I need to cancel my Luray RV trip?

Booking feels low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. There's a money-back grace period right after you book, and additional protections apply for qualifying circumstances. The exact terms depend on how far out your trip starts, so reviewing the cancellation details on RVezy's website before confirming is always smart. If your host cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or provides credits so you're not left stranded. Pro tip: if severe weather is forecast for the Blue Ridge, reach out to RVezy support early. The team handles thousands of Shenandoah-area trips and can guide you through your options quickly.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Luray?

Absolutely, and Luray is one of the most dog-loving corners of Virginia. Many hosts on RVezy clearly mark their listings as pet-friendly, so just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Once you're here, Shenandoah National Park welcomes leashed dogs on most of its trails, including the popular Stony Man hike, with only a few short trails restricted. Several private campgrounds near Luray, including Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Luray, offer dog-friendly amenities. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or weight notes so check-in is smooth and tail-wagging from the start.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near Luray?

Yes, RV delivery in Luray is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a motorhome through the Blue Ridge on day one. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your rental directly at Shenandoah River State Park, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Luray, or Luray RV Resort on Shenandoah River, then walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service, along with their delivery radius and any mileage fee. Pro tip: book delivery to a full-hookup site so you arrive to a fully powered, water-connected, ready-to-enjoy basecamp with zero setup stress.

How far can I drive from Luray on a typical RV trip?

You can cover serious ground from Luray because most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance, with unlimited mileage available on select rentals. Right from town, Skyline Drive's Thornton Gap entrance is about 9 miles away, Luray Caverns sits just south of town, Harrisonburg is about 30 miles west, Washington DC is roughly 95 miles east, and Virginia Beach is about 230 miles southeast. Many guests use Luray as a launchpad for a Shenandoah and Blue Ridge Parkway RV road trip, stitching together Charlottesville and Roanoke. Pro tip: review the host's mileage policy before booking. If you're planning the full Blue Ridge run, an RV rental with unlimited mileage will save you real money.

Where are the best campgrounds near Luray to stay in an RV?

You're spoiled for choice on RV camping near Luray. Big Meadows Campground inside Shenandoah National Park sits along Skyline Drive with meadow views and is reservable through Recreation.gov. Mathews Arm Campground is closer to Luray and quieter. Off-mountain, Shenandoah River State Park offers full-hookup sites along the South Fork, while Luray RV Resort on Shenandoah River provides full hookups, riverfront views, and easy access to town. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Luray is the family favorite with pools and a splash pad. Pro tip: book Big Meadows six months out for fall foliage weekends, they sell out faster than nearly any other campsite in the park.

When is the best time to visit Luray in an RV?

The sweet spots for a Luray RV trip are mid-April through June and late August through late October. Spring brings wildflower bloom on Skyline Drive with daytime highs in the 60s and 70s, while October delivers Virginia's legendary fall foliage with crisp 55 to 70 degree days, the busiest and most beautiful season in the Shenandoah Valley. July and August are warm and humid with highs around 85, perfect for tubing the Shenandoah River. Winters dip into the 20s and 30s, and Skyline Drive sections close during ice and snow events. Pro tip: aim for the second or third week of October for peak color, and book your RV and campsite at least three months ahead, this window fills fast.

I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay around Luray?

You'll do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the engine, generator, slide-outs, water systems, and how to hook up at the campground. Luray itself is small-town friendly with wide streets and easy parking near the caverns and downtown. The one area to plan around is Skyline Drive, which has a 35 mph speed limit, stone guardwalls, and tunnels including Mary's Rock Tunnel at roughly 12 feet 8 inches clearance, so confirm your RV's height before entering. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first trip. They handle the Blue Ridge curves easily and fit every campground loop in Shenandoah.
nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/driving-skyline-drive.htm

What if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 211, a dead battery at Big Meadows, or a tow off Skyline Drive is one phone call away from being handled. Your host is also your first friendly resource for quick questions about quirks of their RV, and they're usually quick to respond by message. For anything bigger, RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you leave Luray, cell service can be patchy inside Shenandoah National Park, and you'll want it accessible offline.

Can I take my Luray RV rental to other states or across the border?

Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, which makes Luray a fantastic launchpad for a multi-state Mid-Atlantic adventure. Popular routes head south on the Blue Ridge Parkway through North Carolina, east to the Chesapeake Bay and Assateague Island's wild ponies, or north to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the host and the protection plan, so message the owner before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection don't extend there. Pro tip: if you're plotting a longer campervan rental itinerary from Luray, send the host your rough route up front so they can confirm mileage and any cross-state nuances in one quick conversation.

What should I budget for fuel on an RV trip in the Luray area?

Fuel is one of the easier numbers to plan around for a Luray RV trip. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A, 10 to 14 for a Class C motorhome, 14 to 18 for a travel trailer setup, and 18 to 22 for a Class B campervan. Virginia gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and there are convenient stations in Luray, Stanley, and Front Royal before you head up to Skyline Drive. A typical 3-night trip covering 250 to 350 miles usually lands between $90 and $200 in fuel. Pro tip: top off in Luray or Front Royal before entering the park. There are no gas stations on Skyline Drive itself, and the nearest pumps after exiting can be 10-plus miles away.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far ahead should I book a campground around Luray?

Booking early is the move, especially for the most popular Luray-area campgrounds. Shenandoah National Park sites at Big Meadows, Lewis Mountain, and Mathews Arm open on Recreation.gov six months in advance to the day, and October foliage weekends sell out quickly. Shenandoah River State Park sites are bookable through Virginia State Parks' reservation system up to 11 months ahead. Private parks like Luray RV Resort on Shenandoah River and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Luray typically have more flexibility but still fill on summer weekends. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your Big Meadows target date and log in at 10 AM Eastern, that's when the best sites with mountain views disappear first.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232493

What are driving conditions like around Luray and Skyline Drive?

Driving around Luray is pleasantly manageable, even for newer RVers. Highway 211 from Luray up to Thornton Gap is a well-maintained, gradual climb with one big switchback near the top. Skyline Drive itself runs 105 miles along the ridgeline with a strict 35 mph speed limit, stone walls instead of metal guardrails, and 75 scenic overlooks where you'll want to pull off. Watch for Mary's Rock Tunnel (about 12 feet 8 inches clearance) and afternoon thunderstorms in summer that can drop visibility quickly. In winter, sections of Skyline Drive close during ice events, so check the park's road status before heading up. Pro tip: drive the park north-to-south if you can, the overlooks are easier to enter and exit safely in a larger RV.
nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/conditions.htm

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Luray?

Campgrounds around Luray range from full-resort comfort to rustic national park charm, so you can match the experience to your group. Private parks like Luray RV Resort on Shenandoah River offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, sewer), hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, dump stations, and potable water fill-ups. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Luray adds pools, mini golf, and a splash pad. Inside Shenandoah National Park, Big Meadows and Mathews Arm have no hookups but offer dump stations, potable water, flush toilets, and camp stores. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank and dump before leaving any private park if you're heading up to Skyline Drive, in-park dump stations sometimes have lines during peak fall weekends.
nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm

What's typically included inside an RVezy rental in Luray?

Most RVs you'll find in Luray come fully equipped to enjoy the Shenandoah Valley from the moment the host hands over the keys. Expect comfortable beds (usually sleeping 4 to 8), a functional kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, and proper seatbelts for travel. Many rentals also include a TV, onboard generator, outdoor awning, and camp chairs, and some hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on, handy because cell coverage thins out on Skyline Drive. Pro tip: scroll the listing's amenities section and the host's photos carefully, then message with any must-haves like a specific bed configuration or coffee maker so your motorhome rental in Luray feels truly dialed in.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Luray,Virginia

What add-ons and pickup options are available on Luray RV rentals?

RVezy hosts in Luray make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, outdoor camp chair and table sets, portable grills, bike racks, generator usage, propane refills, and Wi-Fi hotspots, with prices typically ranging from $15 to $75 per item or per trip. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in or near Luray, and many offer delivery to Shenandoah River State Park, Big Meadows, or your private campground for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, with daily allowances often around 100 to 150 miles and unlimited mileage available on some listings. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking instead of asking later, hosts often offer better package pricing when everything is reserved upfront.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Luray,Virginia

How does payment and the security deposit work for my Luray RV rental?

Payment on RVezy is straightforward and fully handled through the secure platform, no cash or side deals with the host. You'll pay the rental total plus the protection plan and any add-ons during booking, with a portion charged at confirmation and the balance closer to your trip start. A security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, with the exact amount shown on the listing and released after the trip if there's no damage and the RV returns clean with the tanks handled per the host's instructions. Pro tip: take a quick walk-around video with the host at both pickup and drop-off in Luray, it's the single best way to protect your full deposit and avoid any surprises.
