2025 Forest River Travel Trailer
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Perfect Land Yacht! (Comfy quarters with none of the seasickness) Megan & Owen's was the RV we didn't know we needed! It was a great home away from home and made us the envy of our camping neighbors (especially when the rain showed up).  It was spacious and comfortable. There was good water pressure and temperature in the shower. The generator worked perfectly, keeping the trailer cool and the refrigerator cold!  The ambient lighting inside and out, along with the outdoor rug added a nice touch. The awning was perfect for us to sit outside and avoid the direct sun...and rain. The indoor/outdoor Bluetooth speakers were also nice. The convenience of control panels (for the lighting, awning, water, climate control and Bluetooth) were high tech enough for sophistication but low tech enough for us to manage. The RV was well-stocked with the necessities -- towels, linens,  dishes, soaps (bathroom and kitchen), toilet paper and even a fan -- lending to the feel of home. We didn't use the outdoor grill THIS time but look forward to using it next time. Owen was a great host and the booking process was seamless and straightforward, with clear communication and helpful tips provided every step of the way. He was very attentive to our questions before, during and after the rental. He dropped off the trailer, set everything up for us and picked it up promptly at our check out time. I can’t recommend this RV rental enough. If you're a seasoned camper or trying RVing for the first time, this is the way to go. We’re already planning our next trip!

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what does gas cost near Mount Jackson?

Budgeting is easier than you'd think. Virginia gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and the Sheetz at the Mount Jackson exit (I-81 Exit 273) and the Liberty in Edinburg are local go-tos with diesel pumps suitable for big rigs. Pro tip: build fuel into your daily budget at roughly $0.40 to $0.70 per mile depending on RV size, and top off before heading up Skyline Drive since stations are limited inside the park.

How far ahead should I book a campground near Mount Jackson?

Booking early is the smart move, but you've still got options. Shenandoah River State Park bookings open 11 months ahead via the Virginia State Parks reservation system. What are local driving conditions like around Mount Jackson?

Mount Jackson is one of the more relaxed places in Virginia to pilot an RV. I-81 is the main artery, flat and well-maintained, though it does carry heavy truck traffic, so plan to drive in the right lane and pass with care. Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) parallels the interstate and is even mellower. The terrain gets twistier when you head east toward Skyline Drive or west into George Washington National Forest, so take it slow on grades. Winter occasionally brings snow or ice from December through February, VDOT's 511 service gives real-time road conditions. Pro tip: avoid Friday afternoon northbound I-81 traffic, especially during DC commute hours.

Is winter RV camping near Mount Jackson actually doable?

Yes, and it's a hidden gem of a season. Look for RVezy listings with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and shore power capability, message the host to confirm winter readiness. Pro tip: disconnect and drain your fresh water hose overnight when temps drop below freezing, and use the campground's frost-free spigot to refill.
