2013 Travel Trailer
Anthony was very helpful. He met me at the campground, set up the camper, walked me through everything, and showed me the ins and outs of his camper. I told him I wanted to leave early on the day of departure. He said no problem; just leave the key in it, and he’d pick it up later the day I left. He made the entire experience so much easier for us. Thanks a lot, buddy.

Neat layout! Slept us all comfortably. Only thing I was picky about was that it wasn't very clean and things weren't in the best condition. Overall though, everything worked as it should!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Chetek, WI
How much does an RV rental in Chetek typically cost?
An RV rental in Chetek is one of the more affordable ways to enjoy the Northwoods chain of six lakes. On RVezy, travel trailers in the Chetek area generally start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs can reach $300 or more. Hosts set their own rates, so you will see pricing for everything from a cheap RV rental in Chetek to a fully loaded family rig. Pro tip: book a Sunday through Thursday stay in late May or early June to save 20 to 30 percent before the Hydroflites water ski show crowds arrive on Lake Chetek.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Chetek,%20WisconsinDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Chetek, Wisconsin?
Great news: your everyday driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Chetek. Wisconsin does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, even the larger Class A coaches you'll see cruising US-53 toward the lakes. To book on RVezy you just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, which we verify quickly inside the app. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. Once that's done, you're cleared to pick up the keys and start your Chetek RV trip.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/license-drvs/how-to-apply/cdl.aspxWhat protection is included with my Chetek RV rental?
You are covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Chetek booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on County Highway SS or a dead battery at the boat launch will not end your trip. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your comfort zone, and the plan covers most physical damage to the RV (this is a protection plan, not traditional auto insurance). Hosts do not pick your coverage, you do. That means you can confidently take the kids tubing on Pokegama Lake knowing the rig itself has a safety net behind it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Chetek trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every motorhome rental in Chetek, and there is a money-back grace period after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If a Wisconsin winter storm rolls through, your kid gets sick, or a Northwoods plan shifts, our support team works with you on the options that apply to your booking. You will not see a separate cancellation policy on each Chetek listing because it is a unified RVezy process. Pro tip: book early for July and August (peak Hydroflites and fishing season), then relax knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Chetek?
Absolutely, bring the pup. Many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Chetek, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see them instantly. Chetek is a tail-wagging paradise: Knapp-Stout Park has shaded shoreline walking paths and most Barron County campgrounds welcome leashed dogs on site. The Chetek River Trail is another easy stroll right from downtown. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees (typically $15 to $50 per stay) and ask about their preferred cleanup routine. Pack a towel for muddy lake paws and you are set.
cityofchetek.com/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or lake house in Chetek?
Yes, and it is a game-changer for first-timers. RV delivery in Chetek is offered by many RVezy hosts, who will tow or drive the rig straight to your campsite, family cabin on Prairie Lake, or rental dock on Lake Chetek and set it up with the slides out, awning extended, and hookups connected. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see who offers it, then check the host's delivery radius and per-mile fee. Pro tip: ask your host to deliver to Pine-Aire Resort & Campground or Coon's Franklin Lodge so you can step out of your car and into vacation mode without ever touching the steering wheel.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Chetek,%20WisconsinHow far can I drive, and what's a typical mileage policy?
You have plenty of road. Most Chetek hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and you will also see options for an RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for a longer Wisconsin loop. Each listing shows the mileage cap and overage rate (typically $0.30 to $0.45 per mile) right on the price breakdown. From Chetek you can reach Eau Claire in about 50 minutes (45 miles), the Twin Cities in about 90 minutes (90 miles), Bayfield and the Apostle Islands in roughly 2.5 hours (130 miles), and Door County in about 5 hours (290 miles). Plan your route in advance and pick a mileage package that matches.
511wi.gov/What are the best campgrounds near Chetek for RV camping?
You are spoiled for choice. Top picks for RV camping in Chetek include Pine-Aire Resort & Campground on the Chetek chain (full hookups, sandy beach, boat rentals), Coon's Franklin Lodge on Big Chetac Lake just north in Birchwood (quiet, family-run), and Prairie Lake Estates a short hop south. For a state park option, Lake Wissota State Park near Chippewa Falls is about 40 minutes away with full-service RV sites. Pro tip: book July and August sites at least 2 to 3 months ahead, the Lake Chetek chain fills fast around the Fourth of July fireworks and Hydroflites Saturday shows.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/lakewissotaWhen is the best time of year for a Chetek RV trip?
Mid-June through early September is the sweet spot. Summer highs in Chetek average 78 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit with warm lake water perfect for tubing, waterskiing, and catching walleye on Lake Chetek's 922 acres. Late September brings spectacular Northwoods fall color with daytime temps in the 60s, ideal for quiet campfires. Spring (May to early June) is gorgeous but bring bug spray for blackflies. Winters drop well below freezing with heavy snow, and most campgrounds close from mid-October through April. Pro tip: aim for the third weekend in July to catch the Hydroflites water ski show and Liberty Fest fireworks together.
weather.gov/mpx/I've never driven an RV before, is renting in Chetek a good idea for first-timers?
You will do great, and Chetek is one of the friendliest places in Wisconsin to learn. First time renting an RV? Your RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the slides, awning, water, propane, and dump valves, and they are a text away during your trip. Chetek's roads are flat, low-traffic, and well-signed, US-53 and Wisconsin Highway 25 are wide and easy. If you would rather skip driving altogether, choose a host that offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: book a travel trailer or Class C under 28 feet for your first trip, they are easy to handle on county roads heading to Pine-Aire or Coon's Franklin Lodge.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road in northern Wisconsin?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Chetek booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on County Highway D, the generator quits at Pine-Aire, or you need a tow back from Hayward, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also in your contacts for any RV-specific question about their rig. The RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip too. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number and the roadside line in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Chetek rental on a longer road trip across state lines?
Yes, multi-state road trips are popular and easy. An RV road trip from Chetek puts the entire Upper Midwest within reach: Minneapolis-St. Paul (90 miles, about 90 minutes), Duluth and Lake Superior's North Shore (135 miles, about 2.5 hours), the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore near Bayfield (130 miles, about 2.5 hours), Wisconsin Dells (170 miles, about 3 hours), and Door County (about 290 miles, 5 hours). Cross-border travel between U.S. states is fully allowed on RVezy bookings. Travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance coverage does not extend there. Heading to Canada? Confirm with your host first since not every listing is approved for cross-border trips.
nps.gov/apis/index.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on a Chetek RV trip?
Fuel is one of your bigger line items, but it's manageable. Travel trailers and Class B campervans get roughly 15 to 20 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A coaches 6 to 10 mpg. Wisconsin gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, with diesel and regular both widely available at Kwik Trip stations in Chetek, Rice Lake, and Cameron right along US-53. For a 4-night, 300-mile loop in a Class C, plan around $150 to $225 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Kwik Trip on Chetek's south end before heading to the campground, it's the last easy big-rig pull-in for miles.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground around Chetek?
Book early and you'll have your pick of waterfront sites. For July and August weekends in the Chetek chain of lakes, reserve 2 to 4 months ahead at private parks like Pine-Aire and Coon's Franklin Lodge. Wisconsin State Parks (think Brunet Island, Lake Wissota, and Big Bay on Madeline Island) use the Wisconsin DNR ReserveAmerica system and open bookings 11 months in advance, and prime summer Saturdays vanish on day one. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day are the toughest. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday or Monday) often open up cancellations, set an alert and grab one if it appears.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Chetek?
Easy, scenic, and beginner-friendly. The roads around Chetek are mostly flat to gently rolling, with US-53 a four-lane divided highway running right past town. Wisconsin Highway 25 and County Highway SS get you to the lakes with minimal traffic. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk (Barron County has a high deer population), and slow for the occasional Amish horse-and-buggy on rural roads east of town. In winter (November to March) expect snow, ice, and possible road closures, check 511wi.gov before any cold-weather trip. Pro tip: avoid driving large rigs through downtown Chetek's narrow Second Street, take Stout Street or the US-53 bypass instead.
511wi.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Chetek?
Plenty of comfort waiting for you. Most private campgrounds around Chetek offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, a camp store, and boat launches. Pine-Aire and Lake Chetek Resort have sandy swim beaches and dockage for boats. Public dump stations and potable water fills are available at most parks and at Wisconsin State Parks along your route, including nearby Lake Wissota State Park. Pro tip: even at full-hookup sites, top off fresh water before leaving the host's driveway so you can take a long shower the first night without fiddling with the spigot in the dark.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/lakewissotaWhat's typically included inside a Chetek RV rental?
More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental in Chetek comes with real beds (queen or king in many Class C and Class A rigs, plus bunks or convertible dinettes for kids), a kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a full bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace, and seatbelted seating for everyone riding. Many hosts include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and a generator for off-grid lake days. Wi-Fi hotspots are a common add-on. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and bathroom type, then message the host to ask about a starter kit (linens, dishes, camp chairs) which many Chetek hosts throw in for free.
travelwisconsin.com/northwest/barron-county/chetekWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Popular Chetek add-ons include linen and kitchen kits ($25 to $75), generators or extra propane ($20 to $50), bikes, kayaks or SUPs (perfect for the Chetek chain), portable grills, and fishing gear. Delivery and setup to local campgrounds typically runs $2 to $4 per mile each way. Pickup is usually at the host's driveway in or near Chetek, with a walkthrough that takes 30 to 45 minutes. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per night to full unlimited mileage, listed clearly on the listing page. Pro tip: ask about a dump-and-clean add-on so you can return the rig without the chore.
travelwisconsin.com/northwest/barron-county/chetekHow does payment and the security deposit work?
It is straightforward and secure. You pay entirely through RVezy with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged. After return, assuming no damage or excessive cleaning, the hold is released within a few business days. Never pay your host directly outside the platform, all communication, payment, and protection coverage runs through RVezy. Pro tip: walk around the RV with your host at pickup and dropoff and take dated photos of the exterior, interior, and odometer, that 5-minute habit keeps your deposit return smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Chetek during winter for ice fishing or snowmobiling?
Yes, and northern Wisconsin winter RVing is a genuine adventure. Some Chetek hosts list four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and full furnaces, perfect for ice fishing on Lake Chetek's famous walleye and crappie beds or hitting the Tuscobia State Trail for snowmobiling. Temperatures from December to February regularly drop below zero Fahrenheit, so plan for shore power at a winter-open site (or a friend's plug-in), keep propane topped off, and use the freshwater tank rather than exposed hookups. Pro tip: filter for four-season rigs on RVezy and message the host about cold-weather prep, many include heated water hoses and skirting at no extra charge.
