2023 Forest River Travel Trailer
This was my first time renting a trailer to camp in. I couldn’t have picked a better host! He was extremely communicative and though we had no problems I know if I did we would have been taken care of right away! I can wait to rent this trailer again. The delivery and set up was also done by them and it went smooth and quick! Highly recommend!

2025 Winnebago Class B
My husband, Tony, and I just got back from an incredible trip to Yosemite lower Pines and renting Wayne’s Winnebago solar 59PX class B was easily one of the highlights of our vacation. From the very start, Wayne was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and flexible with our pick up and drop off times. The van itself is pristine, immaculately clean, organized, and feels brand new. Wayne is such a thoughtful and generous host. He included so many lovely, personal touches from high-quality soaps and towels to a wonderfully stocked kitchen complete with plates, cups, utensils, and pans. He even provided a coffee maker with an espresso pot, which was such a classy touch! After long days of exploring the park, coming back to a super comfortable bed, made all the difference. Having this amazing set up, truly enhanced our Yosemite experience. We can’t recommend Wayne and his beautiful Solis enough. Thank you for everything!

Mary and her team were nothing but a pleasure to rent from. They were very timely in their communication, the RV was in great condition, and they took their time to make sure I understood everything before our family departed on our trip. They were even very understanding and flexible with some of the last minute changes we had to make to our reservation. Checking out and returning the RV was super easy. I would definitely rent from them again!

What is the best time of year to visit Strawberry, CA for an RV camping trip?

Strawberry, CA is at its best for RV camping from late June through mid-September, when daytime highs typically range from the upper 70s to mid-80s F and nights cool into the 40s to low 50s F at this 5,000+ foot elevation. Late spring brings wildflowers and fewer crowds, but higher campgrounds may still hold snow. Fall delivers crisp days and quieter sites into early October. Winter trips are possible at lower elevations but Sonora Pass and many campgrounds close due to snow, so most renters target July and August.

Can I take my Strawberry RV rental to Yosemite, Tahoe, or other road trip destinations?

Strawberry is a great Sierra Nevada home base for a road trip. How should I budget for fuel on an RV road trip from Strawberry?

Plan ahead, fuel is a meaningful part of any RV road trip from Strawberry. Smaller travel trailers and Class B campervans typically average 12 to 18 mpg, while larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often get 7 to 10 mpg. Tuolumne County gas prices usually run higher than the California average, so filling up in Sonora or Twain Harte (about 20 to 30 minutes downhill) is generally cheaper than the few remote stations along Highway 108. Build in a buffer for the steep Sierra climbs.

How far ahead should I book a campground for my Strawberry RV rental?

Book as early as possible. Popular Stanislaus National Forest campgrounds like Pinecrest, Meadowview, and Fraser Flat open reservations on Recreation.gov up to six months in advance, and prime July and August weekends often fill within minutes of release. Shoulder seasons (May to mid-June and mid-September to October) typically offer better last-minute availability. Midweek stays are also easier to score. Locking in your campsite first makes choosing the right Strawberry RV rental much simpler.

Is it hard to drive an RV around Strawberry? What is the terrain like?

Roads to and around Strawberry, CA are paved and well-maintained, and most renters handle them comfortably. Highway 108 is the main access and includes steep, winding climbs as it heads east toward Sonora Pass, which closes seasonally in winter due to snow. Drive at a relaxed pace, use the marked pullouts to let faster traffic pass, and avoid night driving until you feel confident. If twisty mountain roads are not your thing, RV delivery is a great way to skip the climb.

What amenities will I find at RV parks and campgrounds near Strawberry?

Most campgrounds near Strawberry, including Pinecrest, Meadowview, and Fraser Flat, offer picnic tables, fire rings with grills, vault or flush toilets, and potable water spigots. Dump stations are available at or near Pinecrest, but full hookups (water, sewer, electric at the site) are rare in Stanislaus National Forest. Many sites are shaded by pines with quick access to the lake or river. If you need full hookups, look at private parks closer to Sonora or Twain Harte.

Are there special considerations for winter RV camping in Strawberry, CA?

Winter RV camping in Strawberry is rewarding but requires planning. Highway 108 over Sonora Pass closes seasonally (typically November through late May) due to snow, and most national forest campgrounds near Strawberry close for the winter. Choose an RV with heated holding tanks and an enclosed underbelly, carry tire chains as required by Caltrans, and plan to stay at lower-elevation private parks or dispersed sites that remain open. Always check Caltrans road conditions before heading up.
