🌄 Our First RV Adventure—10 Days of Fun & Freedom! - This was our very first RV vacation, and while we were a little hesitant at first, Bill made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. He was incredibly helpful—available before, during, and even after our trip to answer questions and offer support. His thorough walkthrough before we hit the road gave us confidence, especially with tips on what to do in different situations. We took the RV for 10 days from South Florida to the mountains of Maryland, stopping at six different campgrounds and even plugging in at my sister’s and in-laws’ homes for a few nights. The RV had everything we needed and was in great shape—clean, well-equipped, and surprisingly easy to drive. We returned it with just a minor hubcap issue and no other problems, which felt like a blessing after such a big trip. We had an absolute blast and would highly recommend this RV to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and fun way to travel. Thanks again, Bill!

Hibiscus was amazing! It was nice and clean when we rented it and was fully stocked with everything you would need while camping dished, cookwares, silverware, and even chairs and an outdoor rug! Gary and his wife made sure that we would have a great trip. It was super easy to hook it up and the camp grounds. It drove great and was easier than expected and got even better gas mileage than we expected. I will most definitely be booking with Gary again in the future!

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Adelphi, MD?

Good news: for nearly every RV you'll rent in Adelphi, your regular Class C driver's license is all you need. The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,001 pounds, which is well above almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on RVezy. You must be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform after you reserve. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to rent an RV in Maryland.

When is the best time to rent an RV in Adelphi, MD?

April through early June and mid-September through October are the sweet spots for an Adelphi RV trip, with daytime highs in the comfortable 65 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit range and lower humidity than peak summer. Spring brings cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. (peak bloom typically late March to early April) and mountain laurel in Greenbelt Park in May. Fall delivers brilliant foliage along Skyline Drive. Summer is hot and sticky with highs around 88 degrees and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, while winter dips to averages around 28 to 45 degrees but is still very doable in a heated RV, especially around the holidays when D.C. monuments glow at night.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one in the D.C. area?

You'll be just fine, especially because every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, generator, and the dump valves. For your first time renting an RV near Adelphi, pick a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer under 25 feet, which handles like a big van. The smartest move is to skip the Capital Beltway (I-495) during rush hour, 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., and use US-29 or local roads instead. Better yet, choose delivery to your campground so the host parks it for you, and you only drive when you're ready for day trips.

What happens if I have a breakdown or emergency during my trip?

You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. From Adelphi, that coverage is there whether you are stuck on I-95 heading to Baltimore, climbing Skyline Drive in Shenandoah, or pulled over on US-50 heading to the Bay Bridge. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app since they know the quirks of their RV best. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip, so help is always one tap away.

Can I take my Adelphi RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, cross-state travel is the norm for an RV road trip from Adelphi, and it is one of the best parts of being on the East Coast. From Adelphi you can easily hit Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey on a single trip, and most hosts welcome multi-state travel. Travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts depending on their insurance, so message them through the listing before you book to confirm. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular cross-border picks include Niagara Falls (about 400 miles) and Acadia National Park in Maine (about 700 miles).

How much should I budget for fuel on an Adelphi RV trip?

Fuel is usually the second-biggest budget line after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Maryland gas prices typically run a few cents above the national average, with regular unleaded recently around $3.30 to $3.60 per gallon and diesel around $3.70 to $4.00 in the D.C. metro area. Expect 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class C motorhome, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class B campervan, and 12 to 16 mpg for a truck pulling a travel trailer. A weekend Adelphi-to-Shenandoah loop of roughly 200 miles in a Class C runs about $70 to $90 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Hyattsville or Beltsville before heading west, since prices climb closer to D.C.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Adelphi?

Book sooner than you think, especially for spring and fall weekends near D.C. Greenbelt Park Campground takes reservations on a rolling 6-month window through Recreation.gov, and prime weekends fill quickly once the cherry blossom forecast drops in March. Cherry Hill Park in College Park is bookable directly on their website and routinely sells out 2 to 3 months ahead for holiday weekends like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. State park campgrounds in Maryland open reservations through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources reservation system up to a year in advance. Pro tip: if you're flexible, midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are usually wide open even in peak season.

What are driving conditions like around Adelphi?

Adelphi sits just inside the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County, so the smart play is timing your drives outside rush hours of roughly 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. on I-495, I-95, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (which has a no-commercial-vehicle rule but allows RVs under 1 ton). Streets in Adelphi proper are mostly suburban and easy. Watch for low clearances on the BW Parkway bridges (most around 13 feet 6 inches) and avoid Rock Creek Parkway entirely in any RV; it has stone bridges under 10 feet. Use Google Maps with the truck/RV setting or the RV Life Trip Wizard app, and you'll glide through without surprises.
roads.maryland.gov/mdotsha/pages/index.aspx

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Adelphi?

Campgrounds near Adelphi offer a wide range, so you can match your comfort level. Cherry Hill Park in College Park has 400+ full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp electric, water, sewer, free Wi-Fi, two heated pools, laundry, a camp store, and a dump station. Greenbelt Park is primitive (no hookups) but offers flush toilets, hot showers, potable water spigots, and a free dump station for registered campers. Most state and regional parks like Little Bennett and Pohick Bay offer electric and water sites with central dump stations. If you need to dump or fill water between trips, Cherry Hill Park sells day-use dump services. Always book sewer sites early if you're staying more than 3 nights.

What's inside the RVs I can rent in Adelphi?

RVs listed in Adelphi come fully outfitted so you can pretty much show up with clothes, food, and a sense of adventure. Expect real beds (typically a queen plus convertible dinettes or bunks), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning (a must for D.C. summers), forced-air furnace, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers in the area sleep 4 to 7. Many hosts include extras like a TV, Bluetooth speakers, outdoor camp chairs, and a generator for off-grid stays at Greenbelt Park. Each listing on RVezy spells out exactly what's included.

What add-ons and mileage policies should I expect when booking?

Most Adelphi hosts make it easy to customize your trip with helpful add-ons. Common options include linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75), generator use ($3 to $5 per hour), bike racks, outdoor grills, camp chairs, and delivery to nearby campgrounds (often $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location). Mileage policies vary: many hosts offer 100 to 150 free miles per night with $0.30 to $0.50 per mile after that, while others bundle generous unlimited mileage packages for longer trips. Pickup is usually mid-afternoon and dropoff late morning, with a quick walkthrough at each end. Tip: message the host through RVezy before booking to bundle add-ons and lock in your preferred pickup window.

How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and fully handled inside RVezy, so you never hand cash to a host. You pay your booking total securely by credit card on the platform, and your host receives funds after your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and is released back to your card after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape, usually within a few days of dropoff. To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos and a quick walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff, dump tanks before returning, and refuel to the level shown at pickup.

Can I rent an RV in Adelphi during winter?

Yes, winter RV rental in Maryland is a hidden gem, and Adelphi stays much milder than the mountains, with January lows averaging around 28 degrees and highs near 45. Many hosts keep their RVs available year-round, and Greenbelt Park Campground stays open all winter for those who want to see the D.C. monuments lit up without summer crowds. For cold-weather success, filter for RVs with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a propane furnace, and ask hosts about adding a heated water hose if you'll be on shore power. Pro tip: a December trip to see the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse is unforgettable, and campsites are wide open.
