We had an amazing experience renting this camper van for the weekend! The van was clean, comfortable, spacious, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. It easily carried all of our gear, including a cooler and fishing poles, with plenty of room to spare. It truly had all the comforts of home—and more. From the kitchen essentials to the camping accessories, everything was provided, making our trip easy and enjoyable. Mark, the owner, was fantastic to work with. He took the time to thoroughly show us how to operate the van and explained all of its features and accessories before we left. His attention to detail and willingness to answer our questions made us feel confident and well prepared for our trip. We couldn’t have asked for a better rental experience. If you’re looking for a well-equipped camper van and an owner who genuinely cares about his renters, we highly recommend renting from Mark. We would definitely rent from him again!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Garden City, NY

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Garden City, NY?

RV rental in Garden City is more affordable than you might think for a New York City suburb. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes from $250 to $400 per night. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can filter by price range to match your budget, and weekly bookings often unlock discounts. Pro tip: shoulder-season trips in May or late September deliver the best value on a Garden City RV trip, with prices dropping 20 to 30 percent versus July and August peak weeks on Long Island.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Garden City?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Garden City for nearly every rig on RVezy. New York issues a standard Class D license that covers personal-use recreational vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which includes virtually every campervan, travel trailer, Class B, and Class C on the platform. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the booking process so there's no extra DMV paperwork. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license and you're ready to roll out toward Jones Beach.

What protection and roadside assistance comes with my RVezy booking in Garden City?

Every RV rental in Garden City booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road feeling covered. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), and it helps cover eligible damage to the RV during your trip. If you get a flat on the Southern State Parkway or lock the keys inside at a campground in Old Bethpage, one call gets help dispatched anytime, day or night. That built-in safety net is one reason first-time renters in Nassau County book with confidence.

What happens if I need to cancel my Garden City RV rental?

Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Beyond that, refunds scale based on how far out from your trip start date you cancel, and RVezy support helps with major disruptions like hurricanes or nor'easters that occasionally affect Long Island. Cancellation rules are consistent across listings, which keeps things simple. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best motorhome rental Garden City has available for summer weekends, knowing you're protected if plans shift.

Can I bring my dog on a Garden City RV trip?

Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Garden City options are available on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see listings where the host welcomes dogs (and sometimes cats). Battle Row Campground in nearby Old Bethpage is dog-friendly with leashed walking trails through 44 acres of woods, and Long Island has fantastic off-leash spots like Eisenhower Park's dog run, just minutes from Garden City. Hither Hills State Park in Montauk also allows leashed pets in the campground loops outside peak season. Message the host before booking if you have a larger breed, so cleaning expectations are clear up front.

Can the RV be delivered to me in Garden City?

Yes, RV delivery Garden City is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig through Nassau County traffic. Many hosts will deliver the RV directly to your campground, driveway, or event venue, set up the awning and hookups, and walk you through every system before you even sit behind the wheel. Common delivery destinations from Garden City include Battle Row Campground (about 20 minutes north), Heckscher State Park (about 45 minutes east), and Eisenhower Park for local stays. Delivery fees vary by distance, and you'll see the price clearly on each listing before you book.

How far can I drive on an RV rental from Garden City?

You've got serious range when you rent an RV in Garden City. Many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (filter for it on the search page). Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each. To put that in perspective: Montauk Point is about 110 miles east, the Hamptons sit around 75 miles out, Niagara Falls is roughly 400 miles, and the Pocono Mountains are just 125 miles away. For a long RV road trip from Garden City to places like Acadia National Park (about 470 miles), unlimited mileage listings are the budget-smart pick.

Where can I camp with an RV near Garden City?

You're within easy reach of some of the best campgrounds near Garden City. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage (about 20 minutes away) is the closest full-service option with 52 sites featuring 30 and 50 amp water and electric hookups, plus a dump station. Heckscher State Park on the Great South Bay offers electric hookup sites among 1,600 acres of coastal forest. Wildwood State Park near Wading River has bluff-top camping over Long Island Sound, and Hither Hills State Park in Montauk delivers oceanfront sites with a two-mile beach. For overnight parking in Garden City itself, stick to private driveways or your campground because village streets prohibit overnight RV parking.

When is the best time of year for RV camping Garden City?

The sweet spot for RV camping Garden City is mid-May through mid-October, with the absolute best weather hitting in June and September. Summer highs sit in the low 80s, and Atlantic water temps reach the mid-60s to low 70s by July. July and August are gorgeous but busy, so campgrounds book up months ahead. Spring (April to May) brings 50 to 70 degree days perfect for sightseeing, while fall (September to October) delivers crisp 60 to 75 degree days, fewer crowds, and stunning foliage on the North Fork wine trails. Winter rentals are limited because most Long Island campgrounds close from November through April.

I've never rented an RV before. Is Garden City a good place to start?

Garden City is a great launchpad for first time renting an RV because you've got flat, well-marked roads, plenty of nearby campgrounds for a quick weekend shakedown, and hosts who provide a full walkthrough at pickup. Your host will show you how every system works (water, electric, propane, slide-outs, holding tanks) and you can message them mid-trip with any questions. If city driving feels intimidating, choose a Class B campervan or smaller travel trailer, or simply book delivery and skip driving altogether. Pro tip: do a short overnight at Battle Row Campground first to get comfortable with hookups before heading out to Montauk.

What if my RV breaks down on the road near Garden City?

You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and mechanical issues are a single phone call away. The dispatcher will send help to your exact location, whether you're on the Long Island Expressway, parked at Jones Beach, or out near Montauk Point. Your host is also reachable directly through the RVezy app for quick questions about quirks specific to that RV. Pro tip: snap a photo of the fuse panel and propane shutoff during your walkthrough so you can troubleshoot small things yourself before calling.

Can I take my Garden City RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Multi-state RV trips are not just allowed, they're encouraged, and a New England loop from Garden City is one of the most popular routes on the East Coast. From Garden City you can roll into Connecticut in under an hour, hit the Massachusetts coast in three, and reach Acadia National Park in Maine within a day. Canada trips (to spots like Niagara Falls, Ontario or Quebec City) are also typically allowed; just confirm with your host before booking so they can update their insurance. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage stops at the southern border.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Long Island RV trip?

Fuel is the biggest variable cost, so plan smart. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 mpg, and Class A motorhomes run 7 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Gas in the Garden City area runs higher than the national average (typically around $3.40 to $3.80 per gallon in 2026), and diesel a bit more. For a weekend trip to Montauk and back (about 220 miles round trip) in a Class C, budget roughly $60 to $80 in fuel. Fill up before heading east on the LIE; prices climb noticeably past Riverhead.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Garden City?

Book early, especially for summer weekends. New York State Parks open reservations up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and oceanfront loops at Hither Hills State Park in Montauk fill within minutes of opening for July and August. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage takes reservations through Nassau County's online system and often has weekday availability even in summer. For Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends, aim to book 6 to 9 months out. Shoulder season (May, late September, October) is far more flexible; you can often snag a site 2 to 4 weeks ahead.

What's driving like around Garden City and Long Island?

Long Island driving is straightforward once you know the patterns. The Long Island Expressway (I-495), Northern State Parkway, and Southern State Parkway are your main routes, but heads up: parkways (Northern, Southern, Meadowbrook, Wantagh) ban commercial vehicles and have low overpasses (some under 8 feet), so RVs must use the LIE and surface roads instead. New York's max RV height is 13 feet 6 inches and max width is 8 feet 6 inches. Traffic on the LIE peaks weekdays 7 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., plus eastbound Friday afternoons in summer. Pro tip: leave Garden City before 6 a.m. or after 8 p.m. for a smooth ride to the East End.

What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Garden City?

Most campgrounds within an hour of Garden City offer the essentials and then some. Battle Row Campground has 30 and 50 amp electric, water hookups, a dump station near the entrance, clean showers and restrooms, picnic tables, and grills at every site. Heckscher State Park sites have electric hookups and access to a dump station. Hither Hills offers a dump station, modern restrooms, hot showers, and a camp store, though the West Loop has no electric hookups (generators allowed during daytime hours). For fresh water fills and dumping between trips, Battle Row's dump station is the most convenient option closest to Garden City.

What's inside a typical RV rental in Garden City?

You'll be surprised how complete these rigs are. Most RVezy listings in the Garden City area come with a queen or king bed, dinette and sofa that convert to extra sleeping space, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace, and a TV. Class C and Class A motorhomes typically include a generator for off-grid power, and many travel trailers and fifth wheels have outdoor kitchens too. Seatbelts are present for every traveling passenger (always check sleeps vs. seats counts on the listing). Wi-Fi varies by host, so message them if streaming during your trip matters.
nhtsa.gov/equipment/recreational-vehicles

What add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Garden City?

Hosts offer a great mix of extras to make your trip turnkey. Common add-ons on a campervan rental Garden City or larger motorhome rental Garden City include linens and bedding packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits with pots and dishes ($25 to $50), camp chairs and outdoor tables ($15 to $30), bike racks, generators, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's location around Nassau County, though delivery is widely available. Mileage policies vary, so check the listing: many include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles around $0.35 each. Toll transponders (E-ZPass) are sometimes included; ask the host about Long Island's cashless tolling.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is simple and secure. You pay the booking total through RVezy at the time of booking (never cash to the host), and your security deposit is held as a temporary authorization on your credit card a few days before pickup, not actually charged. Deposit amounts vary by host and RV type, and you'll see the exact figure on the listing before you confirm. The hold is released after your trip ends, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left. Pro tip: take timestamped photos at pickup and dropoff of the interior, exterior, mileage, and fuel level to keep your deposit return smooth.

What's a great cheap RV rental Garden City option for a quick weekend?

For a budget-friendly first trip, look at smaller travel trailers (under 22 feet) or Class B campervans on RVezy; these often run $90 to $140 per night and sip fuel. Pair that with Battle Row Campground (about $40 to $60 per night for non-resident RV sites with hookups) and you've got a full weekend family RV trip Garden City under $400 before groceries. Local insider tip: time your trip to catch a Long Island Ducks baseball game at Fairfield Properties Ballpark in Central Islip or a summer concert at Eisenhower Park, both an easy drive from Battle Row, for a memorable, low-cost first taste of RV life.
