We had an amazing experience renting this camper van for the weekend! The van was clean, comfortable, spacious, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. It easily carried all of our gear, including a cooler and fishing poles, with plenty of room to spare. It truly had all the comforts of home—and more. From the kitchen essentials to the camping accessories, everything was provided, making our trip easy and enjoyable. Mark, the owner, was fantastic to work with. He took the time to thoroughly show us how to operate the van and explained all of its features and accessories before we left. His attention to detail and willingness to answer our questions made us feel confident and well prepared for our trip. We couldn’t have asked for a better rental experience. If you’re looking for a well-equipped camper van and an owner who genuinely cares about his renters, we highly recommend renting from Mark. We would definitely rent from him again!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Inwood, NY

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Inwood, NY?

RV rental in Inwood, NY is more affordable than most Long Island visitors expect, with travel trailers typically starting around $100 to $175 per night, campervans averaging $175 to $275, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes ranging from $225 to $400 per night. Because Inwood sits right on the Nassau County line beside JFK Airport, you'll find a strong mix of price points within a 15-mile radius. To score a cheap RV rental in Inwood, book midweek dates, travel in May or late September when summer pricing drops, and filter for Instant Book listings. Pro tip: many hosts offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so a 7-night booking often beats two long weekends.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Inwood, NY?

Good news: a regular New York Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Inwood for nearly every motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer on RVezy. New York only requires an R endorsement for recreational vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of rentals on the platform fall well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID directly through the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to hit the Belt Parkway.

What protection is included when I rent an RV in Inwood?

Every RV rental in Inwood booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull out of the driveway with real peace of mind. You choose the protection level at checkout, not the host, so you can match coverage to your comfort level whether you are doing a quick Jones Beach overnight or a two-week New England loop. The plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip up to the limits of the level you select. Roadside help is one tap away if you ever need a tire change, jump start, or tow during your Inwood RV trip.

What is the cancellation policy if my Inwood RV trip plans change?

Booking an RV in Inwood is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not the individual host. Every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after you book, and after that window your refund depends on how far out you cancel. The exact terms are shown before you confirm payment, so there are no surprises. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so you can rebook another RV rental in Inwood. Pro tip: locking in a summer trip early gives you the most flexibility to adjust dates later.

Can I find a pet-friendly RV rental in Inwood, NY?

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Inwood is easy to book on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see every host who welcomes dogs, cats, or other companions, often with no extra cleaning fee. Many Long Island owners are pet people themselves and will even leave bowls or a tie-out. For the trip itself, Sunken Meadow State Park and Robert Moses State Park both allow leashed dogs on undeveloped sections, and the Rockaway Beach dog-friendly hours (before 9am and after 6pm offseason) are a quick drive from Inwood. Pack a towel for sandy paws and you're golden.

Can the RV be delivered to me in Inwood instead of picking it up?

Yes, RV delivery in Inwood is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if you are nervous about navigating a 30-foot motorhome through the Five Towns or over the Atlantic Beach Bridge. Filter for Delivery on your search and you will see hosts who will drop the RV at your home, a nearby campground like Heckscher State Park, or Floyd Bennett Field across the bay. The host parks and levels the rig, hooks up utilities when available, and walks you through every system. Delivery fees vary by host and distance, and many hosts include a set number of free miles. Perfect for a stress-free start.

How does mileage work, and how far can I drive on my Inwood RV trip?

Most Inwood hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and a growing number offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is gold for an RV road trip from Inwood up to the Catskills or Cape Cod. Additional miles typically run $0.30 to $0.45 each. To put that in perspective, Inwood to Montauk is about 110 miles, to Bear Mountain State Park around 55 miles, and to the Pocono Mountains roughly 130 miles, so a long weekend rarely strains a standard package. Pro tip: if you're planning anything bigger than a weekend, message hosts before booking and ask about an unlimited-mileage upgrade, many will say yes.

Where are the best campgrounds near Inwood, NY?

You've got several excellent campgrounds within easy striking distance of Inwood. Heckscher State Park in East Islip (about 45 miles east) offers 67 wooded sites on the Great South Bay, open mid-May through early September with reservations on ReserveAmerica. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage (25 miles) has full-hookup sites year-round. Wildwood State Park in Wading River (60 miles) sits on Long Island Sound bluffs with electric hookups. Cathedral Pines County Park in Middle Island offers shaded, family-friendly sites. For an iconic NYC-adjacent stay, Camp Gateway at Floyd Bennett Field is right across Jamaica Bay. Local insider tip: book Heckscher the moment the 9-month window opens, summer weekends vanish fast.

When is the best time of year for an Inwood, NY RV trip?

Late May through mid-October is prime season for RV camping in Inwood, with summer highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit and ocean water warming into the low 70s by July. June and September are the sweet spot, warm beach days, smaller crowds, and lower campground rates. July and August bring the busiest beach weekends and occasional thunderstorms rolling in off the Atlantic. Fall foliage peaks late October across the Hudson Valley, making it perfect for a quick inland trip. Winter rentals are limited because most Long Island campgrounds close after Veterans Day, but a few self-contained sites at Indian Island County Park stay open year-round.

I've never rented an RV before. Is Inwood a good place to start?

Inwood is actually a great launchpad for a first time renting an RV, because you're a short hop from quiet Nassau and Suffolk County campgrounds without needing to brave Manhattan or the Cross Bronx. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slides, the generator, dumping, and how to level the rig, and they stay reachable by text throughout your trip. RVezy's 24/7 support is also one tap away if you blank on something. Pro tip: book a smaller Class C or campervan for your first trip, head straight to Heckscher State Park 45 minutes east, and use the first night to learn the systems.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safety

What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?

You are covered. Every RV rental in Inwood booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on the Long Island Expressway, a dead battery at a Montauk campground, or a lockout in a Hamptons parking lot is one quick phone call away from being handled. The dispatcher will arrange a tow, tire change, jump start, fuel delivery, or locksmith depending on the situation. Your host is also a great first text since they know the rig inside out and often have a quick fix. Save both numbers in your phone before you leave the driveway and relax.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detail

Can I take my Inwood RV rental into another state or across the border?

Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals from Inwood, and popular routes include heading north to Vermont's Green Mountains (about 250 miles), east to Cape Cod (260 miles), or south through New Jersey to the Delaware Water Gap (110 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada is allowed on many listings, but you'll want to confirm with the host before booking since insurance and protection terms must be extended. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: if a Quebec or Ontario trip is on your mind, message the host early so paperwork is squared away.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go

What kind of gas mileage should I budget for, and where do I fuel up?

Plan on 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 for a Class C, 18 to 22 for a Class B campervan, and roughly the tow vehicle's normal MPG minus about 30 percent when pulling a travel trailer. Nassau County gas prices typically run above the national average, so budgeting around $0.40 to $0.55 per mile in fuel keeps you safe. The Costco in Lawrence and the BJ's in Valley Stream both offer some of the cheapest fill-ups within 10 minutes of Inwood. Pro tip: top off before heading out to the South Fork or Montauk, since gas prices climb noticeably the farther east you drive.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground for my Inwood RV trip?

For New York State Parks like Heckscher, Wildwood, and Hither Hills, the reservation window opens 9 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and prime July and August weekends sell out within hours of opening, so set a calendar reminder. Suffolk County Parks (Cathedral Pines, Indian Island, Smith Point) open booking earlier in the year for the April-through-Veterans-Day season. Private campgrounds on the North Fork and Hamptons usually accept reservations 6 to 12 months out. Local insider tip: midweek arrivals at state parks are dramatically easier to snag, and the same-day reservation cutoff at 3 p.m. means you can sometimes grab a last-minute Heckscher site if the weather turns.
parks.ny.gov/camping/

What are the driving conditions like around Inwood for an RV?

Inwood sits in a unique pocket between JFK Airport, the Atlantic Beach Bridge, and the Nassau Expressway, so the trick is knowing which roads are RV-friendly. Most parkways on Long Island, including the Southern State, Belt, and Ocean Parkway, ban commercial and tall vehicles due to historic low bridges (some as low as 7'7''), so you'll route via the Long Island Expressway (I-495), Sunrise Highway (Route 27), or the Cross Island Parkway for taller rigs only where signed. Traffic peaks Friday afternoons heading east and Sunday evenings heading west. Pro tip: leave Inwood before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m. on summer Fridays to skip the worst of the Hamptons rush.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Inwood?

Long Island campgrounds run the full spectrum, so it's easy to match the experience you want. Heckscher State Park offers basic tent/RV sites with potable water spigots, restrooms, and showers but no individual hookups. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage delivers full 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at every site plus a dump station. Wildwood State Park has electric hookups and a dump station near the entrance. For where to dump and fill water between trips, Battle Row sells day-use dump access, and the Cedar Creek pump-out station near Wantagh handles bigger rigs. Local insider tip: top off fresh water in Inwood before heading east, since some smaller county parks only have communal spigots.

What features and amenities come inside a typical Inwood RV rental?

Today's RV rental in Inwood comes outfitted like a small apartment on wheels. Expect a fully stocked kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware; a private bathroom with shower and toilet; sleeping for 4 to 8 depending on class; roof-mounted air conditioning (a must for August humidity); a propane furnace for shoulder-season trips; and DOT-approved seatbelts for travel. Many motorhome rental Inwood options also include a generator, outdoor speakers, a flat-screen TV, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Class B campervan rental Inwood options trade space for nimble city handling. Pro tip: message the host to confirm whether linens, kitchen kits, and outdoor chairs are included or sold as add-ons.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safety

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Popular add-ons for an Inwood RV trip include extra generator hours, kitchen kits, linen and bedding packages, bike racks, kayak racks, outdoor grills, and propane refills, with pricing shown on each listing. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting point, and every booking includes a free hands-on walkthrough. If you'd rather skip the drive entirely, filter for Delivery and the host brings the rig to you. Mileage and generator allowances are listed clearly on every listing. Pro tip: if you're flying into JFK (about 3 miles from Inwood), arrange delivery to your airport hotel and you can be on the road within 30 minutes of landing.

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment for your RV rental in Inwood is handled entirely through the RVezy platform, with no cash or off-platform transfers, which keeps everything tracked and protected. You pay a portion at booking and the balance closer to your trip start date. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape, typically within a few days of return. To avoid any deposit issues, take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, return with a similar fuel level, and dump the tanks if your rental agreement requires it.

What are the best road trip destinations from Inwood, NY?

Inwood is one of the most strategically located launchpads on the East Coast for a family RV trip Inwood. Drive 110 miles east and you're at Montauk Point Lighthouse with Hither Hills State Park camping right on the ocean. Head 55 miles north to Bear Mountain State Park for Hudson Valley hiking. Cape Cod is about 260 miles northeast for seafood and dunes. The Pocono Mountains sit 130 miles west for waterfalls and lakes.
