We had an amazing experience renting this camper van for the weekend! The van was clean, comfortable, spacious, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. It easily carried all of our gear, including a cooler and fishing poles, with plenty of room to spare. It truly had all the comforts of home—and more. From the kitchen essentials to the camping accessories, everything was provided, making our trip easy and enjoyable. Mark, the owner, was fantastic to work with. He took the time to thoroughly show us how to operate the van and explained all of its features and accessories before we left. His attention to detail and willingness to answer our questions made us feel confident and well prepared for our trip. We couldn’t have asked for a better rental experience. If you’re looking for a well-equipped camper van and an owner who genuinely cares about his renters, we highly recommend renting from Mark. We would definitely rent from him again!

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Mount Vernon, NY?

Great news for first-time renters: a regular New York Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Mount Vernon, NY. No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for personal recreational use, and the motorhomes and travel trailers on RVezy fall under the weight thresholds where a special endorsement would apply. You'll need to be 25 or older and approved as a driver on RVezy, with ID verification handled right inside the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association along with your home license. Most renters are surprised how quickly they go from sign-up to picking up the keys.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Mount Vernon RV trip?

Easier to budget than you'd think. Class C motorhomes near Mount Vernon average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans hit 18 to 22 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). With Westchester County gas prices typically running 30 to 50 cents above the national average, plan around $4.00 to $4.50/gallon for regular and a bit more for diesel. A weekend round-trip to Croton Point Park (40 miles each way) might cost $35 to $50 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in New Jersey or northern Westchester (Yonkers, Tuckahoe) before heading out, prices are noticeably lower than right off the Cross County Parkway exits.

The earlier the better, especially for summer and fall weekends. Croton Point Park opens RV reservations in January for the upcoming season and books out fast for July, August, and October (Sleepy Hollow Halloween weekends are the hottest tickets). Call the park office directly at (914) 862-5290 to lock in a site. Harriman State Park's Beaver Pond Campground takes reservations through ReserveAmerica up to 9 months in advance and fills quickly for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends. Pro tip: if a popular weekend looks full, check back Sunday evenings, cancellations roll in as plans shift, and a quick refresh can land you a Hudson River site.

What's it like driving an RV around Mount Vernon and into NYC?

Totally doable with a little planning. Mount Vernon sits right on the edge of NYC, so the smartest move is to avoid the parkways (Hutchinson, Cross County, Bronx River, Saw Mill, Sprain Brook) because they have low overpasses and ban commercial vehicles, including most RVs. Stick to I-95, I-87 (the New York State Thruway), and I-287, which are RV-friendly and well-signed. NYC itself isn't ideal for RV driving, with low clearances and tight parking. Pro tip: park your RV at Croton Point Park and take Metro-North's Hudson Line into Grand Central (about 50 minutes); you get the city visit without the parkway stress.
