2020 Forest River Travel Trailer
This was our family’s first time renting an RV after years of tent camping, and it was a great experience overall. Michael was an excellent host. He delivered the RV to our campsite, had everything set up and ready to go, and took the time to explain how everything worked. As first-time RV renters, that made the experience stress-free and much less intimidating. The RV itself was exactly what we needed for our family of four. It was spacious enough to sleep comfortably, kept us cool during the hot weather, kept us dry through the rain, and everything worked as expected. We spent most of our time outdoors and primarily used the RV for sleeping, and it was perfect for that. The only reason I’m mentioning this is so future renters know what to expect. When we first arrived, there was a noticeable odor inside the RV. As the trip went on, it seemed to be coming from the bathroom/holding tank area. When I mentioned it to Michael at pickup, he was very open about it and explained that it’s something he has to deep clean every few rentals to eliminate the smell. I appreciated his honesty, but since it’s a known issue rather than a one-time occurrence, I think it’s fair for future renters to be aware of it. Other than that, we had a fantastic experience. Michael was friendly, responsive, and easy to work with, and I wouldn’t hesitate to rent from him again

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Lykens, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lykens, PA?
RV rental in Lykens, PA is one of the more affordable ways to explore central Pennsylvania's Susquehanna Valley. On RVezy you'll typically find travel trailers from around $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs from $250 to $400 per night. Mid-week pickups from Sunday through Thursday are often 15 to 25 percent cheaper than weekend rates, and shoulder-season dates in late April or October offer the best value. For a cheap RV rental in Lykens, filter by Delivery so the host drops the unit at your campsite, saving fuel on a tow vehicle and skipping the learning curve.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lykens,PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lykens, Pennsylvania?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lykens, PA. Pennsylvania does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every rig on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home-country license. Once you're verified, your host walks you through the RV at handover so you leave the driveway feeling confident.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs insurance and roadside assistance included when I rent an RV in Lykens?
Yes, and this is one of the best parts of booking through RVezy: every motorhome rental in Lykens includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you pull out of the driveway. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, which covers accidental damage to the vehicle for real peace of mind on winding roads like Route 209 or the back lanes of Berry Mountain. If you get a flat tire heading to Lake Tobias Wildlife Park or need a jump near Lykens Glen Park, one phone call brings help to you. That safety net is why so many first-timers feel comfortable booking here.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Lykens RV rental?
You can book your Lykens RV trip with confidence: RVezy sets the cancellation policy rather than individual hosts, so the terms are consistent across every listing. Refunds depend on how far out your trip is from the cancellation date, which matters in central PA where summer thunderstorms or a late-season cold snap can shift plans. Because the policy is standardized, you don't need to compare fine print between hosts. If your host cancels, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so your trip isn't left in limbo. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip to walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Lykens, PA?
Absolutely: plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Lykens, and you can filter directly by Pet-Friendly on RVezy to see only those listings. Central PA is a great region for dogs, with leashed-pet trails at nearby Weiser State Forest, the open lawns of Lykens Glen Park, and dog-welcoming sites at many Pennsylvania state parks. Most pet-friendly hosts ask only for normal courtesies like keeping pets off furniture and a thorough vacuum before return. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees (often $25 to $75 per stay) and ask about their favorite local dog-friendly hiking spots, since many Lykens hosts are outdoor folks themselves.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/Pets.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Lykens?
Yes, RV delivery in Lykens is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's perfect if you're new to RVing or just don't want to tow. Many local hosts will deliver to nearby campgrounds like Twin Grove RV Resort, Echo Valley Campground, or directly to a family member's property in the Lykens Valley. They'll level the rig, hook up water and electric, fire up the fridge, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees typically run a few dollars per mile round trip from the host's location. Just use the Delivery filter when browsing, then message the host with your destination address for an exact quote.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lykens,PennsylvaniaHow many miles can I drive on a Lykens RV trip?
You'll have plenty of road to roam: most Lykens hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and many offer RV rental with unlimited mileage packages or generous flat-rate add-ons for longer journeys. Extra miles beyond your allowance typically run a small per-mile fee that's easy to budget around. To put it in perspective, Hersheypark is roughly 25 miles south, Gettysburg about 90 miles southwest, Knoebels Amusement Resort around 35 miles north, and Ricketts Glen State Park with its 21 waterfalls about 75 miles northeast. A long weekend exploring these spots fits comfortably inside a standard mileage package. Each listing shows the mileage policy clearly, so there are no surprises.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lykens,PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Lykens, PA?
You're spoiled for choice with great RV camping near Lykens. Top picks include Twin Grove RV Resort & Cottages in Pine Grove with a pool, lake, and full hookups; Echo Valley Campground in Tremont with shaded wooded sites and a stocked fishing pond; Gifford Pinchot State Park for lakeside electric sites and swimming; and Little Buffalo State Park west of Harrisburg for quiet family-friendly camping. For a true Susquehanna Valley experience, try Ferry Boat Campsites along the river in Liverpool. Pro tip: state park sites book up to 11 months ahead through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system, so lock in summer weekends early, especially around July 4th and fall foliage season.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Lykens?
Late spring through mid-fall is the sweet spot for any Lykens RV trip, but each season has its own magic. May and June bring lush green valleys and daytime highs typically in the 65 to 80 F range, perfect for hiking. July and August are warmest at 75 to 88 F and ideal for swimming at nearby state parks, though humidity climbs. September and October are the local favorite: cool days, fewer bugs, and spectacular fall foliage across the Mahantongo and Berry Mountains, with peak color usually around mid to late October. Winters drop into the 20s and 30s F with occasional snow, so most casual RVers stick to April through early November. Book fall weekends two to three months ahead.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Is it really doable for a first-timer in Lykens?
You've got this, and Lykens is an ideal launchpad for first time renting an RV. The roads here are quiet two-lane country highways like Route 25 and Route 209, not stressful freeways, so you can ease into driving a larger vehicle. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, slide-outs, awnings, and dumping, and they're a text away during your trip. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup at a local campground like Twin Grove or Echo Valley. Pro tip: book a Class B campervan or small Class C for your first trip; they handle like a large van and park easily at most state park sites.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something breaks down during my Lykens RV trip?
Take a deep breath: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so help is always one call away whether you're on Interstate 81, climbing Peters Mountain, or parked deep in Weiser State Forest. Roadside covers the common stuff like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. For RV-system questions like a finicky water pump or a confusing slide-out, your host is your first call and usually responds within minutes. If they can't talk you through it, RVezy's support team steps in to help coordinate a fix. Full-service RV repair shops in Harrisburg and Selinsgrove are within about an hour of Lykens, so parts and pros are never far away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips I can take from Lykens?
Lykens sits in a sweet spot for an RV road trip from Lykens in almost any direction. Head about 90 miles southwest to Gettysburg National Military Park for Civil War history and rolling farm country campgrounds. Drive roughly 75 miles northeast to Ricketts Glen State Park to hike past 21 named waterfalls. Push about 3 hours east and you're in the Pocono Mountains for lakes and ski-country campgrounds. Want bigger horizons? Niagara Falls is roughly 5.5 hours northwest, and Washington D.C. is about 2.5 hours south. Cross-border trips into Canada are allowed with many hosts, so confirm with yours first. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits.
nps.gov/gett/index.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on a Lykens RV trip?
Fuel is easier to plan than you'd think. Pennsylvania gas prices typically sit a bit above the national average. A Class B campervan returns roughly 18 to 22 MPG, a Class C motorhome 8 to 12 MPG, and a Class A pusher 6 to 9 MPG, while a travel trailer towed by your own truck depends on the tow vehicle. For a 300-mile weekend loop through Hershey, Harrisburg, and the Susquehanna River valley in a Class C, expect roughly $100 to $150 in fuel at current pump prices. Pro tip: fill up at Sheetz or Rutter's just off Route 209, where prices tend to beat highway stations. Check current Pennsylvania fuel prices before you go for the most accurate budget.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Lykens?
For the best campgrounds near Lykens, aim to book 2 to 6 months ahead, and up to 11 months ahead for summer holiday weekends. Pennsylvania state parks like Gifford Pinchot, Little Buffalo, and Memorial Lake use the DCNR reservation system, which opens bookings 11 months in advance to the day. Private parks like Twin Grove RV Resort book directly through their websites and fill up fast for Memorial Day, July 4th, and fall foliage weekends. Pro tip: if you're flexible, target Sunday-through-Thursday stays, when sites are easier to grab and often cheaper per night. Always reserve your campsite before you book your RV so your dates line up.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are the driving conditions like around Lykens?
Driving an RV in Lykens is refreshingly low-stress compared to big-city RVing. The area is laced with two-lane rural roads like Routes 25, 147, and 209 that wind gently through farmland and along the Susquehanna River. You'll cross a few short mountain grades around Berry Mountain and Peters Mountain, but nothing extreme. Watch for Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural stretches, deer at dawn and dusk (especially in fall), and the occasional low railroad underpass in older towns; Pennsylvania marks clearance heights clearly. Interstate 81 to the east and Route 322 to the south handle larger rigs comfortably. Avoid downtown Harrisburg side streets in anything over 25 feet, and you'll have a smooth ride.
511pa.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lykens?
Campgrounds around Lykens range from rustic to resort-style, so you can match the experience to your group. Private parks like Twin Grove RV Resort offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and camp stores. Echo Valley and Ferry Boat Campsites offer water and electric with shared dump stations. Pennsylvania state parks such as Gifford Pinchot provide electric hookups and modern restrooms with showers, but no individual sewer; you'll dump on your way out. Potable water fill stations are standard at every park entrance. Pro tip: most central PA campgrounds use 30-amp service as default, so confirm your rental's electrical setup with your host, and pack a 50-to-30 amp adapter just in case.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Lykens?
You'll be impressed: even budget campervan rental Lykens options come surprisingly well-equipped. Standard features across most RVezy listings include a queen or king bed, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with roof A/C and propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many Class C and Class A rentals add bunk beds, outdoor speakers, awnings, flat-screen TVs, and onboard generators for off-grid power. Wi-Fi and cell signal can be hit-or-miss in the rural Lykens Valley regardless of the RV, so download maps and entertainment before you head out. Each listing's amenities tab spells out exactly what's onboard, and you can message the host to confirm specifics.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lykens,PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Lykens?
Hosts in the Lykens area offer a great mix of useful add-ons that turn a basic rental into a fully-loaded family RV trip Lykens experience. Popular extras include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor tables, generators for trailers without onboard power, bike racks, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home address near Lykens, Gratz, or Millersburg, with handovers running 30 to 60 minutes. Delivery to nearby campgrounds is widely available for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies are listed up front on every listing. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you book, since hosts often discount packages versus a la carte items.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lykens,PennsylvaniaHow do payment and the security deposit work for a Lykens RV rental?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card rather than directly to the host, which keeps your booking protected and your trip eligible for the included protection plan. A refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment and typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig, is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV came back clean, undamaged, and with the agreed fuel and propane levels. Do a quick walk-around photo check at both pickup and drop-off, dump the tanks if your agreement requires it, and refuel before return. RVezy support is there if any dispute pops up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I dump tanks and refill water near Lykens?
You've got several convenient options for dump stations and fresh water near Lykens. Most local campgrounds like Twin Grove RV Resort and Echo Valley Campground have on-site dump stations and potable water fill, free for guests and a small fee for non-guests. Pennsylvania state parks including Gifford Pinchot and Little Buffalo also offer dump stations open to the public seasonally. Many travel centers along Interstate 81 near Hegins and Frackville have dump and water service for a modest fee. Pro tip: dump on the way back to the host rather than at the start of your trip; it's a quicker stop with empty tanks, and your host will appreciate the clean return.
