Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Manheim, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Manheim, PA?
RV rental in Manheim is one of the most affordable ways to experience Lancaster County. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275, and luxury Class A motorhomes can reach $300 or more. Booking midweek or during shoulder seasons (April, May, late September, October) is the easiest way to score a cheap RV rental Manheim travelers love. Many hosts also offer multi-night discounts of 10 to 20 percent for stays of a week or longer. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book to see real-time availability and lock in pricing for popular weekends like the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire (August through October), which fills up fast.
discoverlancaster.com/regions-towns/northern-countryside/manheim/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Manheim, PA?
Good news: for nearly every RV rental in Manheim, your regular Class C driver's license is all you need. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles over 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, and almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on RVezy falls well under that limit. You'll need to be 25 or older to rent, and ID verification happens right inside the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit paired with your home-country license is accepted. That's it, no CDL, no RV endorsement, no test, just book and go.
pa.gov/agencies/penndot.htmlWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Manheim, PA?
Every RV rental in Manheim booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can explore Lancaster County with confidence. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), letting you match coverage to your budget and comfort. The plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip. First time renting an RV? This built-in safety net is exactly why so many first-timers feel comfortable booking. Combined with roadside support for flats, lockouts, and breakdowns, you get door-to-door peace of mind from pickup to drop-off.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Manheim RV rental?
Booking an RV rental in Manheim is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts). There is a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. The exact terms are shown during checkout and in your booking confirmation, so there are no surprises. If a host cancels on you, RVezy helps you rebook or refunds you. Pro tip: if Pennsylvania weather looks iffy or plans shift, message RVezy support early, the team is available before, during, and after your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Manheim RV trip?
Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental Manheim options are plentiful, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see every listing that welcomes four-legged travelers. Many Lancaster County campgrounds are dog-friendly too: Pinch Pond Family Campground on Pinch Road allows leashed pets on most sites, and Pennsylvania state parks (including nearby Gifford Pinchot) permit pets on designated pet-friendly sites. Local bonus: the Warwick-to-Ephrata Rail Trail and Clarence Schock Memorial Park at Governor Dick both welcome leashed dogs, perfect for morning walks. Pro tip: confirm any pet fee with your host at booking and bring your dog's vaccination records, some campgrounds ask to see them at check-in.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/PetsInStateParks.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Manheim?
Yes, RV delivery Manheim is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer for first-timers. Many hosts will drop the RV right at your campground (think Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country on Lehman Road, Pinch Pond Family Campground, or Hershey Road Campground), level it, hook up water and power, and give you a full walkthrough before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when searching and enter the campground address to see total delivery cost. This is ideal if you are flying into Harrisburg International Airport (MDT), about 25 minutes from Manheim, or if you would rather skip driving a motorhome on the PA Turnpike entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008794-What-is-RV-deliveryHow far can I travel on a Manheim RV trip?
You can cover a lot of ground from Manheim because it sits near the PA Turnpike (I-76) and Route 72. Hershey is about 20 minutes north, Gettysburg is roughly 50 minutes west, Philadelphia is about 90 minutes east, Washington DC is roughly 2.5 hours south, and the Pocono Mountains are about 2 hours northeast. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with some offering generous daily allowances and others offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for the right itinerary. Pro tip: if you are planning a longer RV road trip from Manheim (say, down Skyline Drive in Virginia), filter for unlimited-mileage listings or message hosts directly to discuss a package rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Manheim%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Manheim, PA?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Manheim style. Top picks include Pinch Pond Family Campground (3075 Pinch Road) with a swimming pool, fishing pond, and full-hookup sites; Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country (185 Lehman Road) in the heart of Amish Country; Hershey Road Campground in nearby Elizabethtown; and Hershey Conewago Campground about 25 minutes north. For a state park experience, Gifford Pinchot State Park is about 40 minutes west and Susquehannock State Park sits along the river to the south. Pro tip: book Memorial Day, July 4th, and Renaissance Faire weekends 3 to 6 months ahead, these are the busiest dates in Lancaster County.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time to plan a Manheim RV trip?
Late April through late October is prime time to rent an RV in Manheim. Spring (April to May) brings 60 to 75 degree days and blooming farmland; summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs in the mid-80s, perfect for pool-equipped campgrounds; and fall (September to October) is the local favorite, with crisp 55 to 70 degree days, brilliant foliage, and the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire running weekends at Mount Hope Estate. Winter trips are possible at year-round parks if your rental has heated tanks and shore power, expect 25 to 40 degree days and the occasional snow. Insider tip: October weekends in Lancaster County book out months in advance, so lock in your RV early.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting in Manheim?
You'll be great, and Manheim is honestly one of the easier places in the Northeast to learn. The roads through northern Lancaster County are flat, wide, and rural, with light traffic compared to Philadelphia or New York. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the dashboard, hookups, slides, generator, and waste system, and you can message them anytime during your trip with questions. First time renting an RV? Start with a Class C motorhome or a travel trailer in the 20 to 26 foot range, plenty of space without feeling like you're piloting a bus. Pro tip: avoid the narrow one-lane Kaufman's Distillery Covered Bridge southwest of town, it's beautiful to photograph but not built for RVs.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Manheim comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included in the protection package, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical breakdowns. If something happens, one phone call gets help dispatched to your location, whether you're parked at Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country, cruising the PA Turnpike, or boondocking in the Poconos. Your host is also a direct text or call away for anything RV-specific, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's hookup panel and tire pressure at pickup, it makes troubleshooting (and the host walkthrough) way faster if you ever need it.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxCan I take my Manheim RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, so a motorhome rental Manheim trip can easily roll into Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, or further afield. Popular routes include Lancaster County to Washington DC (about 2.5 hours), to the Outer Banks of North Carolina (7 hours), or up to Acadia National Park in Maine (10 hours). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and protection package, so message the listing directly before booking to confirm. Important: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: tell your host your full itinerary up front, it speeds up approval and unlocks better mileage pricing.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Manheim RV trip?
Fuel is the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, so budgeting smart matters. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average due to state fuel taxes, often $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon for regular. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 15 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan, and SUV-equivalent mileage when towing a travel trailer. A typical weekend loop from Manheim to Hershey to Gettysburg and back (about 150 miles) might cost $50 to $80 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fuel up at the Rutter's or Sheetz stations along Route 72 before heading out, both have RV-friendly pull-through pumps.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Manheim?
For Memorial Day weekend, July 4th, and any weekend during the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire (August through October), book 3 to 6 months ahead, Lancaster County is one of the busiest RV destinations on the East Coast. Pennsylvania state parks open reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, and private parks like Pinch Pond, Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country, and Hershey Road Campground use their own booking sites. For shoulder-season midweek trips, 2 to 4 weeks of lead time is usually enough. Pro tip: if your dream campground is sold out, set a cancellation alert, cancellations happen weekly and you can often snag a spot for a popular weekend.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/Reservations.aspxWhat are driving conditions like around Manheim?
Driving an RV around Manheim is refreshingly mellow. Most roads in northern Lancaster County are flat, two-lane, and rural, so you'll share the road more with Amish horse-drawn buggies than with traffic jams. The PA Turnpike (I-76) runs just north of town with easy access at Exit 266, and Route 72 and Route 72/Lebanon Road give you straight shots to Hershey and Lancaster city. Watch for two things: low-clearance covered bridges (Kaufman's Distillery Covered Bridge is gorgeous but narrow, skip it in anything over 8 feet wide) and slow-moving buggies on rural roads, especially Sunday mornings. Winter weather can bring snow and ice from December through February, so plan accordingly if you're booking a cold-season trip.
511pa.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Manheim?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for any RV setup. Pinch Pond Family Campground offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer, cable TV), a swimming pool, fishing pond, laundry, camp store, and bathhouses. Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country features sites with hookups plus family activities. Most Pennsylvania state parks in the region offer a mix of full-hookup, electric-and-water, and rustic sites with flush-toilet restrooms and warm showers. Dump stations are standard at private parks, and potable water fills are easy to find. Pro tip: cellular signal is generally strong throughout Lancaster County, so you can stream and work remotely without needing premium Wi-Fi.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Manheim?
Most RVs listed for rent an RV in Manheim come fully equipped and ready to roll. Expect a queen or king bed, additional sleeping for 4 to 8 people (bunk beds, convertible dinettes, or fold-out sofas), a full kitchen with a propane stove, microwave, sink and fridge, and a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower. Air conditioning, furnace heat, and a 12-volt house battery are standard. Many newer rigs include flatscreen TVs, Bluetooth stereos, outdoor speakers, awnings, and onboard generators for off-grid camping. Each seat has a factory seatbelt, so confirm sleeping versus seated capacity with your host. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group, and check the listing photos for kitchen size if you plan to cook.
nhtsa.gov/equipment/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Lancaster County hosts get creative with add-ons that genuinely make your trip easier. Common options include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits with pots, pans, and dishes, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bikes, generators, propane fills, and even pre-stocked groceries. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or around Manheim, with delivery available to nearby campgrounds, Spooky Nook Sports for tournament travelers, or Harrisburg International Airport (MDT). Mileage policies vary by host, with many including a set number of free miles per day and a per-mile rate beyond that. Pro tip: bundle add-ons with the host at booking, you often pay less than buying them separately, and you skip the pre-trip Walmart run entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008794-What-is-RV-deliveryHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure: RVezy processes everything online, so you never hand cash to a host. You pay your trip total through RVezy at booking, and a security deposit is pre-authorized (held, not charged) on your card before pickup. The deposit amount is shown on every listing before you book and is released after the trip once the RV is returned in good condition. To avoid issues, take timestamped photos at pickup and drop-off (inside, outside, generator hours, fuel level, and odometer), follow the host's cleaning and dump-station instructions, and refill propane and fuel as agreed. Pro tip: a quick 5-minute walkaround video at handoff is great deposit protection.
