My wife and I really enjoyed renting Levi's Bambi. We went for our yearly weekend trip to Dinkey Creek but decided to go in style. We were not disappointed. Airstream makes an incredible product which made for a comfortable and relaxing experience. Beyond that, Levi's hospitality and friendliness were a perfect compliment to an unforgettable vacation. We already booked a second trip for next month! Thanks Levi!

This was our very first RV trip at a campground, and it couldn’t have gone better. My friend’s kids are growing and wanted to join camping, but they were too little to sleep in a tent—so we decided to rent an RV. We are so lucky to have found Andrea and Tyler as our first RV hosts. They were wonderful to work with—very nice, quick to respond, and right on time with delivery. The RV was spotless, well-equipped, and even had warm blankets for my friends. Tyler delivered and set it up flawlessly, then walked us through how to use everything properly. We loved this experience and will definitely reserve from them again. Highly recommend!

My fiancé and I had a great stay with this camper at Bass Lake. Pickup and drop-off were smooth; Ralph was very accommodating with our changing ETAs. If your vehicle requires a hitch pin that is longer than the standard length, like our Toyota Tacoma does, I would recommend bringing your own pin.

Horsetail Fall

Picture a thin ribbon of water on El Capitan catching the last light so it looks like liquid fire. That is Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park, a winter phenomenon that draws photographers and dreamers when skies stay clear and the fall is running. Arriving in your own RV means a warm kitchen, your own bed, and a flexible base for cold evenings after the walk back from the viewing area. Let the valley cliffs and the Merced River frame a trip you will talk about for years.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Oakhurst, CA

How much does an RV rental in Oakhurst typically cost?

RV rental in Oakhurst is more affordable than you'd expect for a Yosemite gateway town. On RVezy, you'll generally find travel trailers from $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches from $250 to $400. Cheap RV rental Oakhurst options pop up most often in shoulder season (April, May, late September, October), when Yosemite is gorgeous and prices drop 20 to 30 percent compared to July and August peak. Pro tip: book a Sunday-through-Thursday trip to dodge weekend pricing, and use the price filter to sort listings by your nightly budget. Booking 2 to 3 months ahead for summer Yosemite trips locks in the best inventory.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Oakhurst, California?

Good news: a regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Oakhurst for almost every motorhome on RVezy. Per the California DMV, your standard license covers any housecar 40 feet or less, plus travel trailers under 10,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). That covers virtually every campervan, Class B, Class C, and travel trailer you'll see listed. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and ID verification happens right inside the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup.

What protection comes with my Oakhurst RV rental?

Every RV rental in Oakhurst booked through RVezy includes a protection package and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can drive Highway 41 toward Yosemite's south entrance with peace of mind. The protection package covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you'll choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, so you can pick the option that matches your comfort zone. While it's not traditional insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens on the way to Bass Lake or up to Glacier Point. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully, especially if you're a first-time renter, the higher tiers significantly reduce your out-of-pocket exposure.

What if I need to cancel my Oakhurst RV trip?

Booking is low-risk: RVezy has a clear, platform-wide cancellation policy that includes a money-back grace period right after you book, so you're not locked in the moment you confirm. Cancellation outcomes depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel and circumstances like wildfires or major storms (which do happen in the Sierra Nevada and can affect access to Yosemite). Hosts don't set cancellation rules, RVezy does, which means you get consistent treatment across every listing. If a Yosemite road closure or weather event impacts your trip, contact RVezy support right away. Pro tip: book early for peak July through September dates, you'll get the widest selection and the same flexible cancellation window.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Oakhurst?

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Oakhurst options are easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see hosts who happily welcome dogs. Once you're in town, your pup has tons of room to roam: Bass Lake's day-use areas, the trails around Nelder Grove of Giant Sequoias, and the dog-friendly paved paths in Oakhurst Community Park are all leash-friendly. Heads up for Yosemite itself: pets are allowed on paved roads, paved trails, and in developed campgrounds like Wawona, but not on most dirt hiking trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask for a recommended dog-walking spot near pickup, most Oakhurst hosts are locals with great suggestions.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Oakhurst?

Yes, RV delivery Oakhurst is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the RV to your campsite at High Sierra RV Park, Yosemite RV Resort in Coarsegold, or even into Wawona Campground inside Yosemite, then level it, hook it up to power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. You just show up with your groceries and start your vacation. Filter by Delivery on the search page to see options instantly. Pro tip: delivery into Yosemite National Park itself requires a campground reservation in your name, so book that on Recreation.gov first, then coordinate the drop with your host.

How does mileage work, and how far can I drive from Oakhurst?

Most Oakhurst RV hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer Sierra Nevada loop. From Oakhurst, you're 16 miles from Yosemite's South Entrance (about 35 minutes), 60 miles from Yosemite Valley (90 minutes), 90 miles to Sequoia National Park's Big Stump entrance, 200 miles to Lake Tahoe, and 270 miles to San Francisco. Each listing shows the mileage policy clearly before you book, and overage rates typically run $0.30 to $0.50 per mile. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-park RV road trip from Oakhurst, sort listings by unlimited mileage first, you'll save real money on the Sequoia and Kings Canyon leg.

High Sierra RV Park sits on the Fresno River on Highway 41 with full 30/50-amp hookups and is walkable to downtown Oakhurst. Inside Yosemite, Wawona Campground (15 miles north) and Upper Pines in the Valley are RV-friendly but have no hookups. Pro tip: book Wawona and Upper Pines exactly 5 months in advance at 7:00 a.m. Pacific on the 15th of the month via Recreation.gov, they sell out within minutes.

When is the best time to rent an RV in Oakhurst?

Late April through mid-June and September through October are the sweet spots for an Oakhurst RV trip. Spring brings thundering Yosemite waterfalls, wildflowers, and daytime highs in the 60s and 70s. Fall delivers crisp air, fewer crowds, and golden foliage along Highway 41. Summer (July to August) is the busiest season, with Oakhurst highs averaging 88 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit and Yosemite Valley packed, great for swimming at Bass Lake but plan for heat. Winter (December to March) brings snow at higher elevations and lows around 33 degrees Fahrenheit in town, perfect for a cozy snow trip if your rental has a furnace. Pro tip: Tioga Pass (Highway 120 east) typically closes November through late May, plan your route accordingly.

I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Oakhurst?

You're going to be just fine, first time renting an RV in Oakhurst is a popular request, and hosts here are used to walking new renters through everything. At pickup, your host gives a hands-on orientation covering the dash, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, and dump procedure, and you can text them anytime during your trip. Oakhurst itself sits at the junction of Highways 41 and 49 with wide roads and easy parking. The drive to Yosemite's south gate on Highway 41 is paved, well-maintained, and has gentle grades compared to the steeper Highway 140. Pro tip: pick a Class C or smaller travel trailer for your first rental, they handle like a big van and are easy to maneuver in town and at the Wawona pullouts.

What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?

You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Oakhurst booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so help is one phone call away whether you're on Highway 41 climbing toward the Yosemite south entrance or parked at Bass Lake. Roadside covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tow service. For mechanical questions, your host is your second line of support, message them through the RVezy app and they often know the quirks of their rig better than anyone. Cell service is solid in Oakhurst proper but can drop deeper into Sierra National Forest. Pro tip: screenshot the RVezy support number and your host's contact before you leave town with reception.

What are the best RV road trip destinations from Oakhurst?

An RV road trip from Oakhurst opens up some of California's most iconic scenery. Yosemite Valley is the obvious starter (60 miles, about 90 minutes via Highway 41), with stops at Tunnel View, Glacier Point (summer only), and Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Bass Lake is a 15-minute drive for swimming and boating. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks sit about 90 miles south. June Lake Loop and Mono Lake (via Tioga Pass when open, summer only) make a stunning 3-day eastern Sierra loop. San Francisco is 270 miles west for a city-and-coast pivot. Pro tip: cross-border travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but trips into Nevada (Lake Tahoe, Reno) are commonly allowed, just confirm with your host before booking.

What should I budget for fuel on an Oakhurst RV trip?

Plan smart and fuel won't blindside you. Class C motorhomes around Oakhurst typically get 8 to 12 mpg, Class B campervans get 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. California gas prices tend to run higher than the national average, and Oakhurst's Chevron and 76 stations on Highway 41 are usually a few cents cheaper than the gas inside Yosemite at Wawona or Crane Flat. A typical 3-day Oakhurst-to-Yosemite-Valley round trip in a Class C burns roughly $80 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: top off in Oakhurst before heading into the park, in-park fuel can run $1+ higher per gallon, and the Wawona station has limited hours in winter.

How far ahead should I book a campground near Oakhurst?

Book early and book smart. For Yosemite National Park campgrounds (Wawona, Upper Pines, North Pines, Lower Pines, Hodgdon Meadow), reservations open exactly 5 months in advance at 7:00 a.m. Pacific on the 15th of each month via Recreation.gov, and prime summer dates can sell out in literal minutes. Private parks like High Sierra RV Park and Yosemite RV Resort are easier, 1 to 2 months ahead is usually enough for summer, less for shoulder season. Sierra National Forest campgrounds (Summerdale, Big Sandy) also book on Recreation.gov. Pro tip: create a Recreation.gov account and save your payment info before the 15th, every second counts when summer Yosemite sites drop.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2991

What are local driving conditions like around Oakhurst?

Driving an RV around Oakhurst is straightforward, with a few mountain-specific tips. Highway 41 north to Yosemite's south entrance is paved, two lanes, with steady climbs from about 2,300 feet in town to 5,000+ feet at Wawona, downshift on descents to save your brakes. Inside Yosemite, vehicles longer than 24 feet should avoid the Hetch Hetchy Road and the upper portions of Tioga Road's tight switchbacks. Winter brings chain controls between November and April; smaller Class B and C rentals handle these easily. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk and rockfall after heavy rain. Pro tip: call (209) 372-0200 the morning of your drive for current Yosemite road and weather conditions, it's the same number rangers use.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/conditions.htm

What hookups and amenities do Oakhurst-area campgrounds have?

You've got the full range nearby. High Sierra RV Park and Yosemite RV Resort offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, sewer), hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi, ideal for big rigs. Inside Yosemite, campgrounds like Upper Pines, Wawona, and Hodgdon Meadow have no individual hookups, but each has a free dump station and potable water fill, plus required food storage lockers for bear country. Pro tip: bring leveling blocks, a 30-to-50 amp adapter, and a long fresh-water hose, even full-hookup sites near Oakhurst can have spread-out utility connections.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/cgregs.htm

What features and amenities will my Oakhurst rental RV have?

Most rentals in Oakhurst come fully equipped for a comfortable Sierra trip. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds (sleeping 4 to 8 depending on the rig), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, and a furnace (a must for chilly Yosemite nights even in summer). Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and seatbelts for travel. Generators, solar, and Wi-Fi hotspots are common add-ons. Listings show a full amenity list with photos before you book. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and confirm seatbelt count matches your group, California requires every passenger to be belted while the RV is moving.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/

What add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and drop-off work?

Hosts in Oakhurst typically offer popular add-ons like camping chairs and tables ($5 to $15/day), kitchen kits, bedding/linen packages ($25 to $75 flat), generators, propane refills, bike racks, and outdoor grills. Pickup and drop-off usually happen at the host's home base in or near Oakhurst, often within a 10-mile radius of Highway 41, and many offer delivery to local campgrounds for a flat fee. Mileage policies, generator hours, and pet fees are listed on each RV's page so there are no surprises. Pro tip: ask your host to add a Yosemite-ready package, several Oakhurst hosts pre-stock bear-aware coolers and route maps for the south-entrance drive, which saves you a stop at the Vons in town.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/bears.htm

How do payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Oakhurst?

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at the time of booking, no cash or side deals with the host. A refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after the trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues on your motorhome rental Oakhurst, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup with your host, take dated photos of the interior, exterior, and existing scuffs, and return the RV with a clean interior, empty tanks (if required), and the same fuel level. Pro tip: keep all receipts from your campervan rental Oakhurst trip for fuel and propane, hosts appreciate the proof and it speeds up deposit release.
