Carlos went out of his way to make everything work. It was an especially crowded weekend in Miami with a lot of traffic, and Carlos delivered the RV like a professional. The RV itself, is extremely accommodating. Our favorite part where the wonderful meals we had. My family really enjoyed it. Everything was as described or better. It came with bedding, and everything you need for a wonderful experience. Everything was perfectly clean, and smelled good, etc. Don't take that for granted, sometimes RVs have a little smell to them. Carlos keeps this one smelling fantastic. It was clean, it was nice, and I would highly recommend.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in El Portal, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in El Portal, FL?
RV rental in El Portal is more affordable than most people expect for the Miami metro area. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes average $175 to $300, and luxury Class A rigs can reach $400+ during peak winter snowbird season (December through March). The smartest way to save on your El Portal RV trip is to book mid-week stays in May, September, or October, when South Florida demand dips but the weather is still beach-perfect. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings near 79th Street and use the price slider, then message hosts about weekly discounts. Many owners drop their nightly rate 10 to 20 percent for stays of 5+ nights.
miamidade.gov/global/parks/camping.pageDo I need a special license to rent an RV in El Portal, Florida?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in El Portal. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use recreational vehicles under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on RVezy. You must be at least 25 years old and upload a valid driver's license during booking, which RVezy verifies through the platform. International visitors should bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their home country auto club, paired with their original license. That is it, no Florida DMV visit required before you hit A1A.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my El Portal RV rental?
Every RV rental in El Portal booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pick up the keys. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you peace of mind whether you are parked at Larry & Penny Thompson Park or driving down to the Florida Keys. You choose your coverage level during checkout, so you can pick the option that fits your comfort zone and budget. Combined with South Florida's flat, easy-driving terrain, a first-time motorhome rental in El Portal feels surprisingly low-stress.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my El Portal RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in El Portal is lower-risk than you might think. RVezy sets the cancellation policy at the platform level (not individual hosts), and every reservation includes a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help you rebook or issue a refund. Pro tip: book early for winter trips when Miami fills up, knowing your grace period has you covered, and review the full policy on the RVezy Help Center before you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in El Portal?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental El Portal options are easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see dozens of listings within a 15-minute drive of the village. Many South Florida hosts welcome dogs because the lifestyle here is built around outdoor living. Once you've got your rig, head to Amelia Earhart Park in nearby Hialeah, which has a fenced dog park and lake trails, or stretch their legs along the Oleta River State Park trails in North Miami Beach. Most local campgrounds, including Larry & Penny Thompson Memorial Campground, allow leashed pets. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your pet's size and breed, since some listings cap dog weight.
miamidade.gov/global/parks/amelia-earhart-park.pageCan the RV be delivered to me in El Portal?
Yes, RV delivery El Portal is one of the most popular options for first-timers and travelers flying into Miami International Airport (MIA), which sits just 6 miles southwest of the village. Many hosts will deliver the RV directly to your hotel, Airbnb, the campground, or even a Miami Beach driveway, then set up the awning, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. For a stress-free family RV trip El Portal, request delivery straight to your campground site at Larry & Penny Thompson Park or Miami Everglades Resort, so all you need to do is unpack the cooler and start exploring.
miami-airport.com/How far can I drive on an RV road trip from El Portal?
From El Portal you're perfectly positioned for legendary South Florida road trips. Key Largo sits 65 miles south (about 1.5 hours), Key West is 165 miles down the Overseas Highway (around 4 hours), Everglades National Park's Flamingo entrance is 75 miles southwest, Naples is 125 miles west across Alligator Alley, and the Kennedy Space Center is roughly 220 miles north. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with daily allowances usually between 100 and 200 free miles per day, plus a per-mile charge after that (typically $0.30 to $0.45). For longer routes, ask about RV rental with unlimited mileage packages, which several El Portal hosts offer for an added flat fee. It's the smartest way to budget a Keys loop.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere can I camp or park my RV near El Portal?
You've got excellent options for RV camping El Portal within a short drive. Larry & Penny Thompson Memorial Campground (12 miles south in Miami) offers 240 full-hookup sites, a lake, and a water park. Miami Everglades Resort in Homestead (35 miles south) has paved pads with 30/50-amp service and a pool. Bluewater Key RV Resort in the Lower Keys is a luxury favorite for waterfront views. Markham Park in Sunrise (30 miles north) sits on 666 acres with shooting range, mountain bike trails, and full hookups. The City of El Portal itself does not allow overnight RV parking on residential streets, so book a campground or use a host's private property. Pro tip: reserve Florida State Parks 11 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, they sell out fast.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/campingWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in El Portal?
The sweet spot for an El Portal RV trip is November through April, when daytime highs sit between 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit, humidity drops, and mosquitoes go on vacation. This is also peak snowbird season, so book 2 to 3 months in advance for the best selection. May and October are the hidden-gem shoulder months with great weather and 20 to 30 percent lower nightly rates. Summer (June through September) brings 90-degree days, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and Atlantic hurricane season, so if you go, choose RVs with strong air conditioning and stay flexible. Pro tip: South Beach and the Keys empty out after Easter, meaning you'll snag waterfront campsites that are impossible to get in February.
weather.gov/mfl/climateI've never rented an RV before. Is El Portal a good place to start?
El Portal is one of the friendliest spots in the country for first time renting an RV. South Florida's terrain is famously flat, with no mountain passes, no snow, and wide, straight interstates like I-95 and the Florida Turnpike. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water hookups, propane, and dump procedures, so you're never guessing. You can also message the host any time during your trip with questions. Start with a smaller Class C or campervan rental El Portal listing for easier maneuvering, and consider booking delivery so your first drive isn't through downtown Miami traffic. Within 90 minutes you can be parked beachside in Key Largo, no white-knuckle driving required.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every El Portal RV rental booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on the Overseas Highway, a dead battery at Flamingo Campground, or a lockout in South Beach is a single phone call away. Roadside services include tire change, jump-starts, fuel delivery, towing, and lockout help. For non-emergency issues like a finicky AC or a confusing water pump, message your host directly through the RVezy app, most respond quickly since they know their rig inside out. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip, which is why so many travelers feel confident booking their first motorhome rental in El Portal.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my El Portal rental on a road trip to other states or out of the country?
Yes, multi-state trips are popular and easy from El Portal. Most hosts welcome travel throughout the continental United States, so a classic RV road trip from El Portal up to Savannah, the Outer Banks, or Charleston is on the table, just confirm with the host in your booking request. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend there. Trips to Canada may be allowed by some hosts with prior approval. The most beloved nearby routes stay in-state: the Florida Keys, Naples and the Gulf Coast via Alligator Alley (I-75), and a Space Coast loop hitting Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center. Always message before booking if you are planning to leave Florida.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an El Portal RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest variable costs, but it's easy to plan for. Florida gas prices typically run $0.10 to $0.20 below the national average, and Miami-Dade station prices are easy to track on GasBuddy. Expect 7 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 18 to 22 MPG for a Class B campervan, and your tow vehicle's normal MPG minus 30 percent if you're pulling a travel trailer. For a 4-day Key West loop (about 330 miles round trip) in a Class C, budget roughly $100 to $140 in gas. Pro tip: fill up in Florida City before heading into the Keys, prices on Big Pine and Key West run noticeably higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near El Portal?
For Florida State Parks like Bahia Honda, John Pennekamp Coral Reef, and Long Key, book exactly 11 months in advance the moment the window opens on Florida State Parks' Reserve site, they sell out within minutes for winter weekends. Miami-Dade County parks like Larry & Penny Thompson take reservations 6 months out through their county portal. Private resorts like Miami Everglades and Boyd's Key West Campground accept bookings up to a year ahead and fill up December through March. For summer or shoulder-season trips, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: if a Keys site is full, set up at a Homestead RV park and day-trip down, you'll save $30 to $50 per night and still hit the reefs by mid-morning.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reserve-campsiteWhat are driving conditions like around El Portal and Miami?
Driving in and around El Portal is easier than its big-city reputation suggests, especially if you plan smart. The roads are flat, well-marked, and signed in English and Spanish. The main thing to avoid is downtown Miami, Miami Beach, and the MacArthur Causeway during rush hour (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM), where low-clearance bridges and tight lanes can stress larger Class A rigs. Stick to I-95, the Florida Turnpike, and US-1 South for stress-free travel. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms May through October, pull over and wait them out. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so monitor the National Hurricane Center. Pro tip: use delivery to skip Miami traffic entirely and start your trip already parked at the campground.
fl511.com/What amenities do campgrounds near El Portal usually offer?
South Florida campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable El Portal RV trip. At full-hookup parks like Miami Everglades Resort and Bluewater Key, you'll get 30/50-amp electric, fresh water, sewer at each site, plus pools, laundry, Wi-Fi, and bathhouses. Larry & Penny Thompson Memorial Campground adds a water park, lake swimming, and bike trails. State parks like John Pennekamp and Long Key offer water and electric (no sewer at the site) with a centralized dump station included with your stay. Potable water fill stations are easy to find at most parks and at Pilot/Flying J truck stops along the Turnpike. Pro tip: hosts will tell you exactly where the nearest dump station is during orientation, so you can plan your last-day route home.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in El Portal?
South Florida RVs come loaded for warm-weather living. Expect a queen or king bed in the main suite, a convertible dinette or bunk beds for kids, a fully equipped kitchen (fridge/freezer, microwave, three-burner stove, often a convection oven), and a wet bath or full bathroom with shower. Air conditioning is standard and essential here, most rigs run a powerful roof-mounted unit, and many include a generator for boondocking or beach days. Larger Class A and C motorhomes have flat-screen TVs, outdoor speakers, awnings with LED lighting, and built-in Wi-Fi boosters. Seatbelts are provided for the number of passengers the RV sleeps. Pro tip: filter for listings with outdoor showers, they're a game-changer for rinsing off sandy feet after a Crandon Park beach day.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/seat-beltsWhat add-ons can I get with my El Portal RV rental?
El Portal hosts offer some of the most useful add-ons in the country given the beach-and-Keys lifestyle. Common options include linen and towel packages ($30 to $75), full kitchen kits with pots and pans, generators ($25 to $50/day), bike racks, kayaks and paddleboards, beach chairs and umbrellas, portable grills, and snorkel gear (perfect for John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park). Pickup is usually at the host's home in the Miami metro between 1 and 4 PM, with dropoff by 11 AM, though many hosts flex this for MIA flight arrivals. Mileage policies vary by listing, expect 100 to 150 free miles per day with overage at around $0.35 per mile. Always confirm pickup logistics and any unlimited mileage upgrades in your initial message.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/john-pennekamp-coral-reef-state-parkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled entirely through the RVezy platform, never in cash or directly to the host, which keeps your booking protected. When you confirm a reservation, you pay the rental total upfront via credit card through RVezy's secure checkout. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not charged, and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good condition. To avoid deposit issues, do a quick walkaround video with the host at pickup and dropoff, return the rig with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks if required. It is transparent and built so you can rent an RV in El Portal with total confidence.
