Carlos went out of his way to make everything work. It was an especially crowded weekend in Miami with a lot of traffic, and Carlos delivered the RV like a professional. The RV itself, is extremely accommodating. Our favorite part where the wonderful meals we had. My family really enjoyed it. Everything was as described or better. It came with bedding, and everything you need for a wonderful experience. Everything was perfectly clean, and smelled good, etc. Don't take that for granted, sometimes RVs have a little smell to them. Carlos keeps this one smelling fantastic. It was clean, it was nice, and I would highly recommend.

Florida does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or trailers used recreationally, even for large Class A rigs. How does mileage work, and how far can I realistically travel?

Most hosts offering RV rental in Fontainebleau include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for a longer Florida road trip. From Fontainebleau, you are roughly 60 miles from Key Largo, 165 miles from Key West, 235 miles from Orlando's theme parks, 110 miles from Naples and the Gulf Coast, and about 50 miles to Everglades National Park's main entrance near Homestead. Pro tip: if you are planning the Florida Keys, filter for unlimited mileage hosts, the savings on the round trip to Key West add up quickly.

Where should I stay with my RV near Fontainebleau?

You have several excellent options for RV camping Fontainebleau visitors love. Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park (about 25 minutes south) offers wooded RV sites with full hookups and a freshwater lake. Miami Everglades RV Resort in Homestead has a pool, cabins, and easy Everglades access. Flamingo Campground inside Everglades National Park sits near Florida Bay with stunning sunsets. Boyd's Key West Campground is a classic gateway to the Keys, and Long Pine Key Campground offers a quieter Everglades experience. Pro tip: South Florida campgrounds book up fast December through April, reserve as early as possible.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Fontainebleau?

The best window for a Fontainebleau RV trip is mid-November through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s and 80s with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. This is peak season for the Everglades and Keys, when mosquitoes ease up and wildlife is most active. Summer (June to October) brings highs near 90, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and the Atlantic hurricane season, but campgrounds are cheaper and less crowded if you do not mind the heat. Pro tip: late October and early November are a sweet spot, the weather has cooled, snowbird crowds have not yet arrived, and rates are still low.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?

Yes, first time renting an RV in Fontainebleau is easier than you think. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and driving tips specific to their rig. You can message your host with questions before and during your trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. If Miami traffic on the Palmetto Expressway feels intimidating, book a host who delivers and skip the driving entirely. Pro tip: start with a travel trailer or Class C motorhome rather than a 35-foot Class A, they are far easier to handle on your first Florida outing.

What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?

You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are on the Florida Turnpike, Tamiami Trail, or US-1 heading to the Keys. Common issues like a flat tire, dead battery, or lockout are handled directly through roadside support. For anything mechanical, your host is also reachable through the RVezy app and knows their rig inside out. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway.

Can I take the RV out of Florida, or even into Canada or Mexico?

Yes to long road trips, with one important note. Most hosts allow interstate travel, so an RV road trip from Fontainebleau up to Savannah, the Smoky Mountains, or New England is absolutely doable. Many hosts also permit travel into Canada with advance notice, confirm via message before booking so insurance coverage is sorted. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend to Mexico. Popular routes from Fontainebleau include the Overseas Highway to Key West, the Gulf Coast loop through Naples and Sanibel, and the Atlantic coast up to St. Augustine. Pro tip: confirm cross-border travel directly with your host and review the listing details.

What about fuel costs for my Florida RV trip?

Florida gas prices are typically close to the national average. Around Fontainebleau, expect regular unleaded near $3.10 to $3.60 per gallon and diesel slightly higher. Fuel economy varies by rig: campervans (Class B) get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 mpg, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 15 mpg), and Class A motorhomes pull 7 to 10 mpg. For a 330-mile round trip to Key West in a Class C, budget roughly $75 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Florida City before heading into the Keys or Everglades, prices climb fast once you are past the mainland.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Fontainebleau?

For the best campgrounds near Fontainebleau, book as early as you can, especially November through April. Everglades National Park campgrounds (Flamingo and Long Pine Key) take reservations through Recreation.gov and prime sites fill quickly. Florida State Parks like Bahia Honda in the Keys open 11 months out via the Florida State Parks reservation system, and oceanfront sites are often gone within minutes of release. Private parks like Miami Everglades RV Resort are a bit more forgiving but still book up. Pro tip: set a calendar alarm for the exact reservation drop time (8 a.m. Eastern), it is the most reliable way to land Bahia Honda waterfront sites.

What are driving conditions like around Fontainebleau and Miami?

Fontainebleau sits just off the Palmetto Expressway (SR-826) and the Dolphin Expressway, so traffic peaks 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. Roads are flat and well-maintained, but watch for low clearances on some Miami underpasses (anything under 12 feet is a no-go for tall rigs) and sudden afternoon thunderstorms in summer that reduce visibility quickly. The drive to the Keys on US-1 is scenic but two-lane in many stretches, so plan extra time. Pro tip: leave early morning or after 7 p.m. to dodge the worst traffic, and stick to the Turnpike for the smoothest northbound exit.
fl511.com/

What hookups and amenities will I find at South Florida campgrounds?

South Florida campgrounds are RV-friendly and well-equipped. Larry and Penny Thompson Park offers full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer) at most sites plus a dump station. Miami Everglades RV Resort has full hookups, Wi-Fi, and a pool. National Park campgrounds like Flamingo offer electric and water at many sites with a central dump station, while Long Pine Key is more rustic (no hookups, but a dump station and potable water on site). For where to park an RV in Fontainebleau between trips, ask your host, many offer secure storage. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before entering Everglades National Park, options inside are limited.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/camping.htm

What amenities come with the RV itself?

Today's RVezy rentals are essentially apartments on wheels. Expect real beds (sleeping 2 to 8+ depending on the rig), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (air conditioning is essential in Miami heat), and dinette seating with seatbelts for safe travel. Most motorhome rental Fontainebleau options also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and either an onboard generator or solar for off-grid power. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a mobile hotspot as an add-on. Pro tip: confirm AC capacity and generator hours on the listing, you will want both running strong on a hot Florida afternoon.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fontainebleau%2C%20Florida

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Hosts on RVezy offer add-ons that make your trip smoother: linens and bedding packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, paddleboards or bikes, generators, propane refills, and even pre-stocked kitchen kits. Delivery and setup is often the most-loved add-on, especially for campervan rental Fontainebleau travelers heading to the Keys. Pickup is usually at the host's location near Fontainebleau, Sweetwater, or Doral, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Mileage policies vary, so check the listing for daily limits or unlimited options. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you book, hosts often discount packages versus à la carte.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fontainebleau%2C%20Florida

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is handled securely through RVezy, no cash or off-platform transfers. You pay your trip total when you book (or in installments for longer trips, depending on timing), and a refundable security deposit is authorized separately before pickup, not charged unless there is an issue at return. Deposits typically range from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value. After a clean drop-off, the hold is released, usually within a few business days. Pro tip: do a thorough walk-around video at pickup and drop-off with your host, time-stamped footage is the best way to keep your deposit return smooth and stress-free.

Is a family RV trip from Fontainebleau a good idea?

It is one of the best family vacations you can plan in South Florida. A family RV trip Fontainebleau-style means waking up near manatees at Flamingo Campground, snorkeling at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, spotting alligators on the Anhinga Trail, or beach days at Bahia Honda. RVs sleep the whole crew, kids get their own bunks, and you can cook meals to save money. Many local hosts offer kid-friendly extras like outdoor games and booster-friendly dinette seatbelts. Pro tip: schedule travel days for shorter hops (under 3 hours), kids do best with frequent stops, and South Florida has plenty of fun pull-offs.
