Had such a great time. Camper was clean and ready to pack up and leave. Camper was showing it’s age, but the price seemed to be adjusted for it.. Over all we were very happy with this rental.

2022 Jayco Travel Trailer
Renting Brandon's 2022 Jayco Jay Feather Micro 199mbs was an awesome and smooth experience! He was super flexible with the pickup, and drop-off time. This was my first time renting a camper trailer and to be honest, it was kind of overwhelming at first, but Brandon walked me through every detail and put all of my concerns to rest. He was also available for any and all questions and responded immediately. There were quite a few features on this trailer, and with his help, I'm now an experienced trailer camper! He's also super friendly and professional. Furthermore, I requested a few add-ons that made the experience even better: we got the fishing, smores and inflatable SUP kit add-ons. The inflatable paddle board was of amazing quality, it was hard to believe it was just inflatable. Now I want one for myself. Brandon was on point and I'm already looking for an excuse to rent it again from him. My Family didn't want to leave the trailer and I wish I had rented it for longer.

Host was great, very quick to respond and communicate. RV ran smoothly. My rental was right after Burning Man festival usage so unfortunately there was residual dust and dirt that was difficult to clean.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Montpelier, ID

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Montpelier, ID?

RV rental in Montpelier is one of the most affordable ways to experience Idaho's Bear Lake Valley, with most rigs on RVezy listing between $95 and $250 per night depending on size and season. Travel trailers tend to be the cheapest RV rental in Montpelier, while Class C motorhomes and larger fifth wheels sit at the higher end. You can save 15-25% by booking weekdays or shoulder season (late May or September), and many hosts offer weekly discounts for stays of 7+ nights. Pro tip: use the price filter and sort by lowest price on RVezy, then message a few hosts about multi-night discounts. Booking 4-6 weeks ahead of a Bear Lake summer weekend usually unlocks the best rates before the Raspberry Days crowd arrives in early August.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Montpelier, Idaho?

Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Montpelier, Idaho. No special endorsement, RV license, or commercial driver's license (CDL) is required for any of the motorhomes, campervans, or travel trailers on RVezy, even larger Class A rigs. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your identity right inside the platform during booking, so there's no paperwork to print or notarize. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club before you fly in. Once that's done, you're cleared to cruise Highway 89 toward Bear Lake or up Montpelier Canyon without a second thought.

What if I need to cancel my Montpelier RV trip?

Booking your Bear Lake getaway is low-risk because RVezy sets a standardized cancellation policy for every reservation, not the individual host. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and refund eligibility after that depends on how far out your trip is. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credits so you are not left stranded. Your exact cancellation details are shown during checkout and inside your booking dashboard. Pro tip: lock in the RV you love now, because the best Montpelier rigs sell out fast for July, August, and Raspberry Days weekend.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Montpelier?

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Montpelier is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see rigs whose hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats), often for a small cleaning fee. Bear Lake State Park allows leashed pets in most areas (though not on the designated swimming beach), and Montpelier KOA Journey has a Kamp K9 off-leash dog area on site. Caribou-Targhee National Forest trails around Montpelier Canyon and Paris Springs are also leash-friendly and offer cool, shaded hikes in summer. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules and ask about a favorite local trail, most southeastern Idaho hosts are dog people themselves.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Montpelier?

Yes, RV delivery in Montpelier is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many RVezy hosts in the Bear Lake Valley will drive the RV to Montpelier KOA Journey, Bear Lake State Park, Rendezvous Village RV Park, or even a private cabin, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just filter for Delivery on RVezy and enter your destination address to see which hosts serve your spot. Delivery fees are set by each host and typically run a few dollars per mile round trip. Pro tip: delivery to Bear Lake State Park means you can skip towing entirely and head straight to the turquoise water.

How far can I drive on a Montpelier RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?

You have plenty of road ahead of you. Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, and many Montpelier listings include 100-150 free miles per night, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect if you are planning a bigger loop. From Montpelier you can reach Bear Lake's North Beach in about 20 miles, Lava Hot Springs in about 60 miles, Jackson and Grand Teton National Park in about 140 miles, Yellowstone's south entrance in roughly 200 miles, and Salt Lake City in about 170 miles. The mileage policy is shown clearly on every listing before you book. Pro tip: if you are mapping a Yellowstone-Tetons loop, message the host about an unlimited-mileage upgrade, it is often cheaper than paying per-mile overage.

Where are the best campgrounds near Montpelier, ID?

You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Montpelier and the surrounding Bear Lake Valley. Montpelier Creek KOA on Highway 89 has full hookups, a heated pool, and creekside sites just two miles from town. Bear Lake State Park (Eastside Campground in St. Charles) offers serviced sites with showers right on Bear Lake's famous turquoise water, 20 minutes south. Rendezvous Village RV Park sits inside Montpelier itself with full hookups and easy walking access to dining. Paris Springs Campground in Caribou-Targhee National Forest is a quieter, forested option about 15 minutes away. Pro tip: Bear Lake State Park books up months ahead for July weekends, so reserve early or grab a midweek site for a quieter shoreline experience.

When is the best time to visit Montpelier in an RV?

Mid-June through mid-September is the sweet spot for an RV trip in Montpelier, when daytime highs sit in the 70s and low 80s and most campgrounds and forest service roads are fully open. July is the warmest month, averaging 79°F highs and cool 49°F nights, perfect for sleeping with the windows open. Early September brings golden aspens in Montpelier Canyon and far fewer crowds at Bear Lake. May and October are doable but expect chilly nights in the 20s-30s and possible snow at higher elevations. Pro tip: time your trip for Bear Lake Raspberry Days in early August for parades, rodeos, and the legendary raspberry shakes, just book your RV at least a month in advance for that weekend.

Can I rent an RV in Montpelier in winter?

You sure can. Montpelier is a winter playground, and some RVezy hosts in the Bear Lake Valley keep four-season rigs available for snowmobilers, ice fishers, and folks heading to Beaver Mountain or Pebble Creek ski areas. Look for listings that mention heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces, and plan to camp somewhere with full shore power so you're not relying on the generator overnight in single-digit temps. Most public campgrounds close mid-October to mid-May, but Montpelier Creek KOA stays open into early November and a few private parks operate year-round. Pro tip: message the host directly to confirm winter readiness and ask about chains, snow tires, and the best plowed route from town.
itd.idaho.gov/winter-driving/

I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Montpelier really doable?

Yes, and Montpelier is actually one of the easiest places in the country for first time renting an RV. Highway 89 is wide and lightly trafficked, the town itself has big parking lots and no tight urban turns, and your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, slide-outs, tanks, propane, and the generator. If you'd rather not drive at all, choose a host with delivery and you'll meet the RV already parked and set up at your campground. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop in the Bear Lake High School lot before heading out, then plan a short first day, maybe just 20 miles south to Bear Lake State Park, so you can settle in without pressure.

What happens if my RV breaks down near Montpelier?

You are not on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the renter protection plan, so one phone call gets help dispatched whether you are at Montpelier KOA Journey, broken down on Highway 30 toward Soda Springs, or pulled over in Montpelier Canyon. Your host is also just a message away inside the RVezy app and usually knows the closest tire shop, propane filler, or mechanic by name. Larger service centers are available in Logan, Utah (about 75 miles) and Pocatello (about 90 miles). Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's tire info and propane tank location at pickup, it makes any roadside call go twice as fast.

Can I take my Montpelier RV rental on a road trip to Yellowstone or Jackson Hole?

Multi-state road trips are exactly what an RV rental in Montpelier is built for. From Montpelier you can roll north on Highway 89 to Jackson, Wyoming in about 2.5 hours (140 miles), continue into Grand Teton National Park, and loop through Yellowstone's south entrance in roughly 4 hours total. Salt Lake City sits about 170 miles south, and Lava Hot Springs is about an hour northwest. Cross-border travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but interstate U.S. travel is welcomed by most hosts, just confirm your route and total mileage with the host before booking. Pro tip: the Highway 89 stretch from Alpine to Jackson is one of the most scenic RV drives in the West, especially at sunrise.
nps.gov/grte/planyourvisit/directions.htm

What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?

Budgeting is straightforward once you know what you're driving. Campervans and Class B rigs around Montpelier average 18-22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8-12 MPG, large Class A coaches 6-10 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer typically lands around 10-14 MPG. Gas in Bear Lake County usually runs a bit higher than Salt Lake City prices, so most travelers fill up in Logan, Utah on the way in. For a typical 4-day Bear Lake loop covering 250 miles, plan roughly $80-$180 in fuel depending on rig size. Pro tip: the Maverik station on Washington Street in Montpelier is the most convenient fill-up before heading into Montpelier Canyon, where there's no fuel for the next 60 miles toward Cokeville.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Montpelier?

Plan ahead and you will land the best sites. Bear Lake State Park reservations are handled through the Idaho State Parks system and open well in advance, with the Eastside Campground filling up for July and August weekends quickly after the window opens. Montpelier KOA Journey accepts reservations year-round and books several months out for peak summer, and Caribou-Targhee National Forest sites like Paris Springs are bookable on Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance. For a Raspberry Days weekend (early August) or a 4th of July trip, reserve as soon as you can. Pro tip: if state park sites are sold out, check Recreation.gov for last-minute cancellations midweek, that is when many people release sites they cannot use.

What are the driving conditions like around Montpelier?

Driving an RV around Montpelier is refreshingly mellow compared to mountain passes elsewhere in the West. Highway 89 north toward Jackson and south toward Bear Lake is two-lane, well-paved, and gently graded with wide shoulders. Montpelier Canyon (Highway 30 east toward Cokeville) climbs to about 6,800 feet with sweeping curves but no white-knuckle drop-offs. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk year-round, sudden thunderstorms in July and August, and possible snow or ice from late October through April, even in town (Montpelier sits at 5,964 feet). Pro tip: check Idaho 511 before any winter or shoulder-season drive over Emigration Canyon between Montpelier and Logan, and stick to daytime travel when you're new to a larger rig.
511.idaho.gov/

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Montpelier?

Campgrounds in the Montpelier area range from fully developed to back-to-nature. Montpelier Creek KOA and Rendezvous Village RV Park offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and dump stations. Bear Lake State Park's Eastside Campground in St. Charles provides water and electric hookups, modern restrooms with showers, and a dump station near the entrance. Caribou-Targhee National Forest campgrounds like Paris Springs and Emigration are more rustic, expect vault toilets, drinking water at central spigots, and no hookups, so you'll lean on your RV's batteries and freshwater tank. Pro tip: top off potable water and dump tanks at Montpelier Creek KOA (a small fee for non-guests) before heading into the forest for a few unplugged nights.

What's typically included inside a Montpelier RV rental?

You will be surprised how loaded most RVs on RVezy are. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (sleeping 4-8 depending on size), a full kitchen with a propane stove, fridge/freezer, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (roof A/C plus propane furnace for those cool Bear Lake nights), and a generator on most motorhomes. Many hosts also include kitchen kits, bedding, camp chairs, outdoor mats, and sometimes a Starlink or cell booster for the spotty service in Montpelier Canyon. Every passenger has a seatbelt for travel. Pro tip: scroll to the What's Included section of each listing and message the host to confirm bedding, you will know exactly what to pack.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Montpelier%2C%20Idaho

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Montpelier RV rental?

Hosts in Montpelier offer some genuinely useful add-ons that make your trip smoother. Common extras include generator hour packages, propane refills, bedding and towel kits, kitchen and dish packages, outdoor gear (camp chairs, grills, paddleboards, bike racks), and Bear Lake-friendly toys like tubes and life jackets. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Montpelier, with a 30-60 minute walkthrough covering every system. Many hosts also offer delivery to Bear Lake State Park, Montpelier KOA Journey, or area cabins for a per-mile fee. Add-on prices and mileage policies are listed on each listing. Pro tip: bundle bedding and a kitchen kit if you are flying into Salt Lake City, it saves a Walmart run and gets you to the lake an hour faster.

How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Montpelier?

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit card, and the funds are held until your trip starts, so you never hand cash to a host. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after the host confirms the rig was returned in good shape. The deposit amount is set by the host and shown clearly on every listing before you book, and it is handled separately from your booking payment. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with your host at both pickup and drop-off in Montpelier, it is the fastest way to document condition and keep your full deposit hassle-free.
