Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in New Hope, MN
How much does an RV rental in New Hope, MN actually cost?
RV rental in New Hope, MN is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Twin Cities and Minnesota's lake country. Nightly rates on RVezy typically start around $95 to $150 for travel trailers and pop-ups, $150 to $225 for Class C motorhomes, and $225 to $325 for larger Class A coaches. Towable trailers are often the cheapest RV rental in New Hope when paired with host delivery, since you skip towing fees and fuel costs on a big truck. Pro tip: book mid-week stays in late August or September to score lower nightly rates plus cooler weather for campfires at Lake Maria or Wild River State Park.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Hope%2C%20MinnesotaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in New Hope, MN?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in New Hope, MN. Under Minnesota Statute 171.02, recreational vehicles operated for personal use are exempt from commercial driver's license (CDL) requirements, and a standard Class D license covers any RV with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which includes virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on RVezy. You must be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during checkout. That's it, no RV endorsement, no road test, no extra paperwork before your Minnesota road trip begins.
revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/171.02What protection is included when I rent an RV in New Hope, MN?
Every RVezy booking in New Hope includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 169 or I-94 with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), and the plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip. Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan and covers things like flat tires, jump-starts, lockouts, and towing. Pro tip: pick a higher protection tier if your Minnesota RV trip includes gravel roads up to the Boundary Waters or winding bluff routes along the Mississippi.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book a New Hope RV trip?
Life happens, and RVezy makes it low-risk to plan ahead. RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every booking (not the host), and refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip start date is. Minnesota weather can shift fast in spring and summer, so message your host early if a storm system looks like it will impact your dates, many are flexible about shifting your trip. You will see the full cancellation policy clearly during checkout and inside your RVezy account. Pro tip: review the policy before confirming so you know exactly what to expect if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in New Hope, MN?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in New Hope, MN is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs, often for a small cleaning fee. Minnesota is a dream for dog owners: nearby Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove has an 11-acre off-leash dog park and miles of paved trails, and Three Rivers Park District campgrounds like Baker Park Reserve allow leashed pets on most trails and campsites. Pro tip: pack a tie-out stake and a collapsible water bowl, mosquitoes pick up in July so flea-and-tick prevention is a must before your trip.
threeriversparks.org/park/elm-creek-park-reserveCan the RV be delivered to me in New Hope, MN?
Yes, RV delivery in New Hope is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers nervous about towing through Twin Cities traffic. Many local hosts will drive the RV right to your driveway, your campsite at Baker Park Reserve or Lake Rebecca, or a nearby state park and handle the full setup: leveling, stabilizers, awning, water and electric hookups, and a walkthrough of everything inside. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile round trip from the host's location. Pro tip: filter for Delivery on the search page, then ask your host for a quote to your exact campground address before you book.
threeriversparks.org/park/baker-park-reserveHow far can I drive on an RV rental from New Hope, MN?
Plenty far, most New Hope hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and many travel trailers come with unlimited mileage since the host isn't burning fuel. From New Hope you can easily reach Duluth and Lake Superior in 2.5 hours (155 miles), Itasca State Park and the Mississippi headwaters in 3.5 hours (215 miles), Voyageurs National Park in 5 hours (290 miles), Wisconsin Dells in 4 hours (245 miles), or the Black Hills of South Dakota in 9 hours (590 miles). Extra miles usually run $0.35 to $0.50 each. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer Minnesota RV trip, filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage to avoid surprises at drop-off.
dot.state.mn.us/maps/Where are the best campgrounds near New Hope, MN?
You are spoiled for choice within an hour of New Hope. Minneapolis Northwest KOA in Maple Grove (about 7 miles away) offers full hookups, a pool, and easy I-94 access. Baker Park Reserve in Maple Plain (about 15 miles) sits on Lake Independence with wooded sites and a sandy swim beach. Lake Rebecca Park Reserve in Rockford (about 20 miles) is quieter with paved bike trails. Wild River State Park (about 50 miles northeast) hugs the St. Croix and books up fast in summer, and William O'Brien State Park (about 40 miles) is perfect for a first-time RV camping New Hope weekend. Pro tip: Three Rivers Park District campgrounds open reservations well in advance, set a calendar reminder so you do not miss popular summer dates.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/stay_overnight/index.htmlWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in New Hope, MN?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for a New Hope RV trip, with daytime highs from 70°F to 85°F and warm evenings perfect for campfires. June and July bring peak greenery and lake swimming (water temps in the upper 70s), August quiets down a bit, and late September into early October delivers Minnesota's spectacular fall colors along the St. Croix and North Shore with crisp 50°F to 65°F days. Winters here are seriously cold (lows of -10°F are normal in January), so most hosts pause rentals from November through March. Pro tip: book early September for the best mix of warm weather, low bug pressure, and lower nightly rates.
weather.gov/mpx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be more than okay, first time renting an RV in New Hope is genuinely easy on RVezy. Every host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, propane, slide-outs, water tanks, dump valves, and the all-important leveling routine. Most New Hope-area hosts rent Class C motorhomes and travel trailers under 28 feet, which drive a lot like a U-Haul, and you can message your host anytime during your trip with questions. Pro tip: do a short shakedown loop around Medicine Lake or Theodore Wirth Park before heading out to Wild River or Itasca, it builds confidence in 30 minutes flat.
dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy rental in New Hope, MN includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 55, a dead battery at Lake Maria, or a tow off I-94 is just one phone call away. The roadside team handles tires, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified shop. For anything mechanical or RV-specific (like a finicky furnace or a stuck slide), your host is your first text, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my New Hope RV rental into Wisconsin or Canada?
Crossing into Wisconsin is no problem at all, the Hudson border is just 30 minutes east on I-94 and Wisconsin Dells, Door County, and Apostle Islands are all popular routes on an RV road trip from New Hope. Canada (think Thunder Bay or Winnipeg) is also possible but requires the host's written approval in advance, since insurance and protection coverage must be confirmed for international travel. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: message the host directly from the listing before booking if Canada is on your itinerary, and have your passport ready, the Pigeon River border crossing is about 5 hours from New Hope.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on a New Hope RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it's predictable. Gas prices in the Twin Cities metro typically run $3.10 to $3.60 per gallon, and Minnesota's gas tax is among the lowest in the upper Midwest. A Class C motorhome averages 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A coaches get 6 to 8 MPG, Class B campervans manage 16 to 20 MPG, and your tow vehicle pulling a trailer usually drops to 9 to 12 MPG. For a 500-mile round trip from New Hope to Duluth and back, budget roughly $175 to $225 in a Class C. Pro tip: Costco in Maple Grove and Sam's Club in Plymouth consistently have the cheapest fuel near New Hope.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground?
Book early and you'll have your pick. Minnesota State Parks open campsite reservations exactly 120 days before arrival through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reservation system, and popular spots like William O'Brien, Wild River, Itasca, and Gooseberry Falls sell out within hours for summer weekends. Three Rivers Park District campgrounds (Baker, Lake Rebecca, Elm Creek) release 90 days out and also fill quickly. Private parks like Minneapolis Northwest KOA usually have more flexibility. Pro tip: if you miss the 120-day window, check the DNR site daily for cancellations or use same-day reservations, which carry no booking fee and open up surprisingly often midweek.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/stay_overnight/index.htmlWhat's it like driving an RV around the Twin Cities and New Hope?
New Hope sits in the northwest Twin Cities metro, and the good news is that you're 10 minutes from Highway 169 and 15 minutes from I-94 and I-694, the main arteries that get you out to lake country fast. Avoid the downtown Minneapolis core (some skyway-area streets have 11-foot clearances) and skip I-35W and I-94 between 3 and 6 p.m. when commuter traffic hits. North and west of New Hope, roads open up quickly into farm country with easy, RV-friendly two-lanes. Pro tip: if Twin Cities driving makes you nervous, book a host who offers RV delivery New Hope service and skip the metro entirely.
dot.state.mn.us/trafficeng/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near New Hope?
Most campgrounds within an hour of New Hope offer at least 30-amp or 50-amp electric, with full hookups (water, electric, sewer) common at private parks like Minneapolis Northwest KOA and Town and Country RV Park in Savage. Minnesota State Parks typically have electric-only sites with shared water spigots and a central dump station, which is normal across the system. Most parks have flush toilets, hot showers, a camp store, and Wi-Fi near the office. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank at the entrance station before parking, and dump on your way out, the DNR's central dump stations have less wait than in-site sewer at peak times.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/stay_overnight/index.htmlWhat's actually inside an RV rental from New Hope, MN?
More than you'd expect. Most motorhome rental New Hope listings come fully stocked: queen or king beds, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, cookware, dishes and utensils, a bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, furnace, and a flat-screen TV. Many hosts add bedding, towels, outdoor chairs and a folding table, and a Bluetooth speaker. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes have onboard generators for off-grid power, and travel trailers usually include stabilizer jacks and a propane tank or two. Every listing's amenities tab spells out exactly what's included, so you can pack light. Pro tip: ask your host whether the rig has heated holding tanks if you're booking a shoulder-season Minnesota trip.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons can I get, and how does pickup and drop-off work?
New Hope hosts make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons include generators ($20 to $40/day), bedding and towel packages ($30 to $60 flat), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, kayaks or bikes, propane tanks pre-filled, and pet cleaning packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in New Hope, Plymouth, Crystal, or Brooklyn Park, with a 30 to 60-minute walkthrough on day one. Drop-off mirrors pickup and most hosts ask you to return with a clean interior, empty black tank, and similar fuel level. Pro tip: mileage policies vary by listing (often 100 free miles per night), so review the booking summary before confirming, and ask about unlimited mileage if you're planning a long campervan rental New Hope adventure.
dot.state.mn.us/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, then released after drop-off assuming the rig comes back in good shape. The nightly rate, protection plan, taxes, and any add-ons are itemized clearly before you confirm. Pro tip: take a quick walkaround video of the RV at pickup and again at drop-off, it is the easiest way to avoid any deposit questions and keeps things smooth for both you and your host.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in New Hope, MN during winter or cold shoulder seasons?
Winter RV trips are an adventure here, just plan smart. Some New Hope-area hosts keep four-season rigs available through October and into early November, and a smaller group rents winterized units (heated underbellies, insulated holding tanks, skirting) for ice-fishing trips on Lake Mille Lacs or weekend getaways near Afton Alps. Expect overnight lows from 20F down to -15F from December through February, so you will want shore power for the furnace and a host who can walk you through cold-weather operation. Pro tip: filter listings by season, message the host to confirm heated tanks, and book a state park with electric sites like Lake Maria, which stays open year-round for a true Minnesota winter family RV trip.
