I would to thank Carlos Acuna and his wife the the excellent rental RV they provided for me at the EAA Sun-n-Fun event in Lakeland, Florida recently. They provided a beautiful and extremely clean RV for us. They accomplished a complete setup and gave me a very good briefing on the operational aspects of the RV. The personal touches such as the personalized Welcome sign, snacks, coffee, and other items were greatly appreciated. I will definitely attempt to rent from them again in the future.

Great Experience! I Highly recommend! All you need to do is bring yourself, your clothes, and some food. Just about everything else is provided. They have a weight distribution hitch (which saved me a lot of money). They even had the cable to hook up my generator. Their A/C blew ice cold air, the refrigerator kept everything cold and the freezer worked perfectly. If you can get fresh water, you leave and have hot showers! All you have to do is back up your vehicle, hitch it up and go have fun. The owners are Very helpful and communicate very quickly to help with any questions you have. I would definitely rent from them again and highly recommend them. Thank you so much for a great experience.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Fort Meade, FL

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Fort Meade, FL?

An RV rental in Fort Meade is one of the more affordable ways to explore Central Florida. On RVezy, you typically find travel trailers from about $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes around $175 to $275 per night, and Class A coaches starting higher. Prices peak from January through March when snowbirds arrive in Polk County, so booking a Fort Meade RV trip in late spring or early fall often saves money. Filter by Instant Book and look for hosts offering weekly discounts, then ask about delivery to nearby Hardee Lakes or Lake Kissimmee State Park to skip the tow vehicle entirely.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Fort Meade?

A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Fort Meade, FL. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers within standard weight limits. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID confirmation happens through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association along with your home-country license before flying into Tampa or Orlando. Most first-time renters are surprised at how quickly verification wraps up.

Is my RV rental in Fort Meade protected if something goes wrong?

Yes, every RVezy booking in Fort Meade includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can relax and enjoy the Peace River instead of worrying about what-ifs. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the RV based on the tier you select at checkout (this is coverage provided through RVezy, not traditional personal auto insurance). You choose your protection level during checkout, and hosts do not set or change which tier is available. Select your protection level before adding extras like generators or bike racks so you can see the full nightly total upfront.

What if I need to cancel my Fort Meade RV trip?

Booking with confidence is the goal, which is why RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every rental in Fort Meade. There is a short grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, and additional refund options depend on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start date. Since Polk County sits in Florida's hurricane zone from June through November, it is worth reviewing the policy before booking summer or fall dates. Visit the RVezy Help Center for current policy details, then lock in those popular winter dates with confidence.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Fort Meade?

Yes, your four-legged co-pilot is welcome on plenty of trips. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental in Fort Meade and the surrounding Polk County area. Once you pick a listing, message the host with your pet's size and breed so check-in is smooth. Fort Meade is a great base for dog lovers: Heritage Park and trails along the Peace River are leash-friendly, and Hardee Lakes Park (about 20 minutes south) allows leashed pets. Pack a cooling mat, since Florida pavement gets very hot from May through September.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Fort Meade?

Yes, RV delivery in Fort Meade is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you would rather skip towing a trailer down US-17 yourself. Many RVezy hosts will drive the rig to your campsite at Hardee Lakes Park, Peace River Campground, or other parks in the area, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. To find delivery options, toggle the Delivery filter on RVezy and check each listing's delivery radius and fee (usually a flat rate plus per-mile charge). This is a game changer for first-time renters or anyone flying into Tampa or Orlando.

Can I get an RV rental with unlimited mileage from Fort Meade?

Yes, several Fort Meade hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is great for a longer Florida loop. Most listings include a daily mileage allotment (typically 100 to 150 miles per day) with a per-mile fee beyond that, but unlimited-mileage rigs do exist on RVezy. From Fort Meade you are roughly 50 miles to Tampa, 65 miles to Orlando, 75 miles to Sarasota, 130 miles to Cape Canaveral, and about 200 miles to Florida City at the gateway to the Keys. Map your route before booking, then message the host with your planned mileage to confirm an exact quote.

Where are the best campgrounds near Fort Meade, FL?

You have great choices nearby. Hardee Lakes Park, about 20 minutes south near Bowling Green, offers RV sites among palms and pines with fishing on connected lakes. Lake Kissimmee State Park (about 45 minutes east in Lake Wales) provides shaded sites with electric and water hookups inside a 6,000-acre wilderness. Paynes Creek Historic State Park is another quiet option about 25 minutes away, and Peace River Campground in Wauchula has full hookups and river access. Book Florida state parks up to 11 months ahead through the official Florida State Parks reservation system, because winter sites sell out quickly.

When is the best time to visit Fort Meade in an RV?

Fort Meade is at its best from late October through April, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s and low 80s and overnight lows fall into the 50s and low 60s. That is the dry season, bugs are minimal, and the Peace River is calm for paddling. Summer (June through September) brings highs in the low 90s, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and high humidity, so shoulder months like late October, early November, and April offer the sweet spot of warm weather and lighter crowds. Avoid Daytona Bike Week and spring break weeks in March if you want quieter campgrounds and lower nightly rates.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be able to handle it?

You've got this, and Fort Meade is a great place for first time renting an RV. The roads around Polk County are flat, wide, and well-marked, and highways like US-17 and SR-60 have generous shoulders and lighter traffic outside Tampa and Orlando rush hours. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering propane, water, electrical, slides, awnings, and dump procedures before handing over the keys. You can also message your host any time during the trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is built into every booking. Do a short loop in a quiet area after pickup to get a feel for braking and turning before hitting I-4.

What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?

Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked at Hardee Lakes or driving I-4 toward Orlando. The service covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also a message away if you have questions about how something works. Save the RVezy support number and your host's contact info to your phone before you pull out of the driveway, and take photos of the RV at pickup so you have a record of its condition.

What are the most popular RV road trips from Fort Meade?

Fort Meade's central Florida location makes it a launchpad for several great routes. A classic RV road trip from Fort Meade heads east about 100 miles to Cocoa Beach and the Space Coast for rocket launches and surf. Another favorite is the 75-mile run southwest to Sarasota and the Gulf beaches at Siesta Key. Nature lovers enjoy the 75-mile drive north to Ocala National Forest for freshwater springs, while adventurous travelers can head about 250 miles south to Everglades National Park. Cross-border travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but cross-state trips are wide open. Avoid I-4 between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how do I budget?

Class B campervans in the Fort Meade area typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes around 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A rigs about 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailer fuel use depends on your tow vehicle. Florida gas prices generally track close to the national average, with stations along US-17 and SR-60 often cheaper than those near theme parks. For a week-long Fort Meade RV trip covering about 500 miles in a Class C, budget roughly $180 to $260 for fuel at current prices. Fill up in Fort Meade or Bartow before heading toward Orlando, where prices can jump noticeably per gallon.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Fort Meade?

Sooner is better, especially for Florida state parks. Reservations at Lake Kissimmee, Paynes Creek, and other Florida state parks open up to 11 months ahead through the official Florida State Parks reservation system, and winter weekends from December through March often sell out within minutes. Private parks and county parks like Hardee Lakes usually have more flexibility but still book up 2 to 3 months ahead during the January and February snowbird season. Create your account in advance, save your payment info, and set a phone alarm so you are ready the moment the booking window opens.

What are the local driving conditions like around Fort Meade?

Driving an RV around Fort Meade is genuinely relaxed compared to most of Florida. The terrain is flat, US-17 and SR-60 are wide two-lane highways with good visibility, and traffic stays light outside of school commute hours. Watch for two specific things: sudden afternoon thunderstorms from June through September that can drop visibility fast, and slow-moving phosphate haul trucks on the west side of town. If you're driving into Tampa (about an hour) or Orlando (about 75 minutes), avoid I-4 during weekday rush hours. Bridge clearances on local routes are RV-friendly, with no low underpasses to worry about. Pro tip: download the Florida 511 app for real-time traffic, weather alerts, and crash reports.
fl511.com/

What amenities do campgrounds near Fort Meade typically offer?

You will find a great range of options. Full-hookup private parks like Peace River Campground in Wauchula offer 30/50-amp electric, city water, sewer at every site, Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Florida state parks like Lake Kissimmee provide electric and water hookups (no sewer at site) plus a central dump station, hot showers, and potable water fill stations. Hardee Lakes Park has both hookup and primitive options. Most parks near Fort Meade have at least a dump station and potable water fill, so emptying tanks between stops is easy. Pack a 25-foot drinking water hose and a 30-to-50-amp adapter so you are ready for any site.

What's included inside a typical RV rental in Fort Meade?

A typical motorhome rental in Fort Meade comes with a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove), a bathroom with toilet and shower, queen or king beds plus convertible dinettes, roof and dash air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger seat. Most listings also include a TV, basic cookware, dishes, linens, and outdoor camp chairs. Many hosts offer add-ons like Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, and solar setups. Check each listing's amenities section on RVezy or message the host with questions. Confirm bed sizes and sleep count before booking, especially for a family RV trip in Fort Meade where everyone wants their own spot.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fort%20Meade%2C%20Florida

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Hosts make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons for a Fort Meade RV rental include generators, bike racks, kayak racks, camp chair packages, linen and kitchen kits, propane refills, and Wi-Fi hotspots on some rigs. Most hosts set a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 miles per day) with a per-mile fee beyond that, plus a generator-hour rate when applicable. Pickup typically happens at the host's address with a 60- to 90-minute walkthrough, but RV delivery to local campgrounds or to Tampa and Orlando airports is widely available. Message the host before booking to bundle add-ons, especially for stays of 5 nights or more.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fort%20Meade%2C%20Florida

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. You pay the rental total through the platform when you book (no cash or off-platform transfers), and a refundable security deposit is held on your card a few days before pickup. Deposit amounts vary by the RV's value and are shown on the listing, and the hold is released after drop-off once the host confirms the rig is returned in the same condition. To protect your deposit, take a thorough video walkthrough of the interior and exterior at both pickup and drop-off, then share it with your host through the RVezy message thread for a documented record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Is there a cheap RV rental option in Fort Meade for budget travelers?

Yes, you can find a cheap RV rental in Fort Meade without sacrificing comfort. Travel trailers and pop-up campers on RVezy often start around $75 to $110 per night, which is significantly less than motorhomes. Booking midweek (Sunday through Thursday), traveling in May or September, and choosing a host who offers local delivery to Hardee Lakes or Peace River Campground can shave hundreds off your total. Look for Instant Book listings with weekly or monthly discounts, and message hosts to ask about unlisted deals. An older Class C with strong reviews often beats a brand-new rig on price, and you still get the same RVezy protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance.
