The success of platforms like RVezy depends on people, not just campers. We found in Lena a host who was quick to respond, thorough, accommodating and pleasant. Arranging for pickup was easy, and her complete walkthrough of towing hookup and campground setup was very helpful. She has the unit fully outfitted with everything needed for sleeping, cooking and showering, etc. We had set aside a number of items to bring that we were able to leave at home. There's even a red binder inside with instructions for all the systems, While the camper is a couple years old, it's really only the outside that shows any minor wear from normal exposure to the elements. Everything worked as we needed it to. In all, this was a great solution for our annual group camping trip, this year to Willow River State Park. Highly recommend this host.

When is the best time of year for an RV rental in Mendota Heights?

Late May through early October is the sweet spot for your Mendota Heights RV trip. Summer (June through August) brings warm days in the 75 to 85 F range, ideal for swimming at Lake Elmo and tubing the Apple River, though it is also peak booking season. September and early October are the local insider favorite: crisp 50 to 70 F days, fewer mosquitoes, and the maples along the Mississippi blaze red and gold. Winters are genuinely cold (regularly below 10 F December through February), so many RVs are seasonally unavailable, but a handful of four-season rigs with heated tanks stay listed for ice-fishing and Saint Paul Winter Carnival adventures.

I've never driven an RV before, is renting in Mendota Heights beginner-friendly?

You've got this, and you won't be left to figure it out alone. Every RVezy host provides an in-person walkthrough at pickup, covering driving tips, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, and waste tanks before you leave the driveway. For your first time renting an RV, consider a Class B campervan rental in Mendota Heights or a smaller Class C; both handle similarly to a large van. Mendota Heights itself sits just off Highway 55 and I-35E with wide suburban roads perfect for getting comfortable. Do a slow lap through an empty parking lot like Mendota Plaza to practice turns before merging onto I-94.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Minnesota RV trip?

Fuel is a manageable line item with a little planning. As of 2026, Minnesota's average regular gasoline price has ranged roughly $3.25 to $4.00 per gallon, with diesel running higher. Most Class C motorhomes get 8-12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans 18-22 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10-14 MPG). For a 4-day, 400-mile loop from Mendota Heights to Duluth and back in a Class C, budget roughly $130-$180 in fuel. Pro tip: Costco in Eagan and Sam's Club in Inver Grove Heights consistently post the lowest local prices, top off before heading north on I-35.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Mendota Heights?

Earlier is better, especially for summer weekends. Minnesota state parks (administered by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources) accept reservations up to 120 days in advance through the official state booking system, and prime sites at places like Afton State Park and William O'Brien State Park fill the moment the window opens. Dakota County parks like Lebanon Hills and Washington County parks like Lake Elmo also book months ahead for Friday and Saturday stays. Aim for a Sunday-through-Thursday stay if you can; you'll find availability even mid-summer and the campgrounds feel almost like a private retreat.
dnr.state.mn.us/reservations/index.html

What are driving conditions like around Mendota Heights?

You're in luck, Mendota Heights sits at the easy edge of the Twin Cities metro with quick access to I-35E, I-494, and Highway 55 without the worst downtown congestion. Avoid rush hour (7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.) on I-494 across the Mississippi if you can. The terrain is gently rolling with no mountain passes, so most rigs handle local roads comfortably. Watch for low railroad bridges in older neighborhoods of Saint Paul; most posted clearances are 11-12 feet, and modern RVs run 10-13 feet tall. Winter brings snow and ice November through March, so summer and fall are the smoothest seasons. Pro tip: use the MnDOT 511 service for live road conditions before you roll.

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Mendota Heights?

Most campgrounds near Mendota Heights are well-equipped for a smooth RV stay. Regional parks like Lebanon Hills and Lake Elmo offer electric hookups (typically 30-amp, some 50-amp), potable water fill stations, dump stations, flush toilets, and hot showers. Saint Croix Bluffs Regional Park has full-hookup sites with sewer. Minnesota state parks generally provide electric and water but require you to use a central dump station on your way out. Free public dump stations exist at Flying Cloud Drive in Eden Prairie and several Twin Cities municipal sites. Pro tip: arrive with at least a half tank of fresh water; campground spigots can be turned off during freeze warnings in early spring and late fall.

How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the secure RVezy platform, no cash exchanges with the host. You'll pay your rental total at the time of booking with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good shape. To avoid issues, take dated photos and a short walk-around video at pickup and drop-off, and report anything unusual right away through the in-app chat. Keep your card's available balance above the deposit amount during your trip to prevent pre-authorization hiccups.

Where can I park or stay overnight in an RV inside the Twin Cities?

Quick heads-up: city streets are not the move, but you have great alternatives. The City of Minneapolis restricts large vehicle and overnight street parking in residential zones, and similar overnight street parking restrictions apply in Saint Paul. The smart play for where to park an RV in Mendota Heights and the Twin Cities is to head straight to a campground: Town and Country Campground in St. Paul is the closest full-service option (about 15 minutes away), or Lebanon Hills Regional Park just 10 minutes south in Eagan. Many hosts will also let you stage the RV at their property the night before pickup, so you can load up and roll out at dawn.
