The success of platforms like RVezy depends on people, not just campers. We found in Lena a host who was quick to respond, thorough, accommodating and pleasant. Arranging for pickup was easy, and her complete walkthrough of towing hookup and campground setup was very helpful. She has the unit fully outfitted with everything needed for sleeping, cooking and showering, etc. We had set aside a number of items to bring that we were able to leave at home. There's even a red binder inside with instructions for all the systems, While the camper is a couple years old, it's really only the outside that shows any minor wear from normal exposure to the elements. Everything worked as we needed it to. In all, this was a great solution for our annual group camping trip, this year to Willow River State Park. Highly recommend this host.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Saint Paul, Minnesota?

Good news: for almost every RV rental in Saint Paul, your regular Class D driver's license is all you need. Under Minnesota Statute 171.02, recreational vehicles used for personal purposes are exempt from Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements, and a standard Class D license covers vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which is virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on RVezy. You will need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license and you are ready to roll.

What protection is included when I rent an RV in Saint Paul?

Every Saint Paul RV trip booked on RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right in, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. During checkout, you (the guest) choose the protection plan level that fits your trip, and hosts do not select this for you. Each plan provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens on Minnesota's roads, whether you are heading up I-35 to the North Shore or popping over to Hidden Falls Regional Park. Review the coverage tiers carefully if you are planning longer mileage days or a winter trip.

What happens if I need to cancel my Saint Paul RV rental?

Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not the host) sets and manages the cancellation policy, and there is a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund amount depends on factors like how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. The policy is consistent across the platform, so you do not need to scour individual listings for cancellation terms. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a full refund or travel credit so you can rebook with confidence. Book early to lock in the best Saint Paul motorhomes for summer weekends.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Saint Paul?

Yes, and Saint Paul is a fantastic city for traveling with dogs. Many hosts list pet-friendly RV rentals in Saint Paul on RVezy, and you can filter directly for Pet-Friendly listings to see them in seconds. Once you are set up, take your pup to the Arlington/Arkwright Off-Leash Dog Park or the riverside trails at Hidden Falls Regional Park. Heading out of town, William O'Brien State Park (about 35 miles north) allows leashed pets on most trails and in the campground. Message the host before booking if you have a large dog or multiple pets so they can confirm any pet fee and bedding preferences upfront.

Can the RV be delivered to me in Saint Paul instead of me picking it up?

Yes, RV delivery in Saint Paul is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will drive the RV to your campground, driveway, or even a nearby state park, set up the leveling jacks, connect to shore power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is incredibly handy if you're booking a site at Lake Elmo Park Reserve or St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park and don't want to drive a big rig through Twin Cities traffic. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to find these hosts. Pro tip: delivery fees are usually based on mileage, so closer campgrounds keep costs lower.

How far can I travel on an RV road trip from Saint Paul?

You can go as far as the road takes you, and the Midwest opens up beautifully from here. Popular routes for an RV road trip from Saint Paul include Duluth and the North Shore of Lake Superior (about 155 miles up I-35), the Mississippi River Headwaters at Itasca State Park (about 215 miles), the Apostle Islands in Bayfield, Wisconsin (about 230 miles), the Black Hills of South Dakota (around 600 miles via I-90), and Voyageurs National Park (about 290 miles north). Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: message the host with your route ahead of time so they can quote any mileage add-ons.

Where are the best campgrounds near Saint Paul, MN for an RV?

You have a great mix of state, county, and private campgrounds within an hour of downtown. Top picks for RV camping in Saint Paul include Lake Elmo Park Reserve (about 15 miles east, with 80 RV sites and 20/30/50-amp hookups), St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park in Hastings (about 30 minutes south, pull-through sites with full hookups and a dump station), Dakotah Meadows RV Park in Prior Lake (122 paved full-hookup sites next to Mystic Lake Casino), William O'Brien State Park in Marine on St. Croix (about 35 miles north along the St. Croix River), and Minneapolis Southwest KOA in Jordan. Pro tip: Washington County opens reservations on a rolling 120-day window for 2026.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Saint Paul?

Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping in Saint Paul, with June through August delivering the warmest weather (highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s) and the longest days. September is the local insider's secret: fewer mosquitoes, smaller crowds, fall colors peaking along the St. Croix River around the last week of the month, and daytime temps still in the 60s and 70s. Spring (mid-April to May) is great for shoulder-season pricing, though nights can dip near freezing. Winter rentals are possible for adventurous travelers, but many campgrounds close mid-October and reopen in late April. Pro tip: book by February for August weekends.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Saint Paul?

You'll be in great shape, and first time renting an RV is exactly what many Saint Paul hosts specialize in. Every RVezy booking includes a hands-on orientation at pickup where your host walks you through driving, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, and the propane and water systems. The Twin Cities metro has wide highways like I-94, I-35E, and Highway 36 that are very RV-friendly, and you can avoid tight downtown streets entirely by choosing delivery. Class B campervans and small Class C motorhomes are the easiest to drive for first-timers. Pro tip: do a slow loop around the pickup area before heading out, and you'll feel comfortable within 20 minutes.

What if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you have a flat tire, a dead battery, get locked out, or need a tow somewhere between Saint Paul and the Boundary Waters, help is one phone call away. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy messaging system for questions about the specific RV, like how to relight the water heater or reset the inverter. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway so it is ready when needed.

Can I take my Saint Paul RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes to U.S. interstate travel and often yes to Canada, with a quick conversation first. Crossing into Wisconsin (just minutes east across the St. Croix River), Iowa, the Dakotas, or driving north toward Thunder Bay, Ontario is common for Saint Paul renters. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the host and their insurance, so message them through the listing before booking to confirm and get any paperwork sorted. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a popular long-weekend route is Saint Paul to Bayfield, Wisconsin for the Apostle Islands, about a four-hour drive northeast on US-2.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what does it cost to fuel up?

Budgeting for fuel is straightforward once you know what you're driving. Class B campervans near Saint Paul typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and large Class A motorhomes run 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle's MPG will drop by 25 to 40 percent. Gas prices in the Twin Cities tend to track close to the national average, and you'll find cheaper fuel at Costco in Maplewood or Sam's Club in Woodbury. Pro tip: fill up before heading north on I-35 since prices climb noticeably past Hinckley.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I reserve a campground near Saint Paul?

Earlier is better, especially for summer weekends. Minnesota State Parks like William O'Brien, Afton, and Interstate take reservations up to 120 days in advance through ReserveMN, and popular waterfront sites can book out the same day they open. Washington County (Lake Elmo Park Reserve and St. Croix Bluffs) also uses a rolling 120-day reservation window for the 2026 season. Private parks like Dakotah Meadows and Minneapolis Southwest KOA often have more midweek availability. Pro tip: if a holiday weekend is full, set a reservation alert on ReserveMN, because cancellations pop up regularly two to three weeks before the date as plans change.
dnr.state.mn.us/reservations/index.html

What are driving conditions like in and around Saint Paul?

Saint Paul is one of the easier major metros to drive an RV in, with wide interstates and well-maintained roads. Stick to I-94, I-35E, and I-694 to move around the Twin Cities, and avoid the narrow historic streets in downtown Saint Paul, around Cathedral Hill, and along West 7th near the river. Watch for low clearances under the rail bridges in the Midway and Lowertown areas (a few are under 12 feet). Winter brings snow and ice from November through March, and Saint Paul declares Snow Emergencies that restrict on-street parking. Pro tip: rush hours on I-94 between downtown Saint Paul and Minneapolis (7-9am and 4-6pm) are best avoided.
dot.state.mn.us/511/

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Saint Paul?

Twin Cities-area campgrounds are well-equipped. Expect 20/30/50-amp electric hookups, potable water, and dump stations at most RV parks, with full sewer hookups common at private parks like Dakotah Meadows RV Park and St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park. State parks like William O'Brien offer electric and a shared dump station but not in-site sewer. Modern bathhouses with hot showers, picnic tables, and fire rings are standard. For freshwater fills and dumps on the road, the Rosemount city dump station south of Saint Paul is free to the public. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a basic 30-to-50-amp adapter so you're ready for any pedestal setup.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/camping.html

What's actually inside a typical RV rental in Saint Paul?

More creature comforts than you'd expect. Most Saint Paul RV rentals come with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with toilet and shower, a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette/bunks sleeping 4-8, roof air conditioning, a furnace for cool Minnesota nights, and seatbelts for travel passengers in motorhomes. Many hosts include a generator for boondocking, a TV, and Wi-Fi hotspot or cellular booster, which is great when you're up in Voyageurs country where signal gets thin. Bedding and kitchen kits are often add-ons. Pro tip: check the listing photos and amenities list closely, and message the host if you need something specific like a CPAP outlet near the bed.
exploreminnesota.com/outdoors/camping/rv-campsites-minnesota

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

You can customize your Saint Paul RV trip more than you might think. Popular add-ons from local hosts include bedding and linen packages ($30-$75), kitchen kits, camping chairs and outdoor mats, generators, bike racks, paddleboards, and propane refills. Mileage policies vary: some hosts include 100 free miles per night, others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pickup is typically at the host's location (often in suburbs like Woodbury, Maplewood, or Eagan), though delivery to your campground is widely offered. Standard pickup is mid-afternoon with morning drop-off the last day to allow for cleaning. Pro tip: ask about a one-way option to Duluth or Brainerd if your trip works better as a point-to-point adventure.
exploreminnesota.com/

How does payment and the security deposit work for my Saint Paul RV rental?

Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card at booking, and your funds are held safely until your trip starts, so the host is not paid until you are on the road. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is separate from the booking payment and pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, then released after drop-off assuming no damage or excess mileage. Take timestamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and return to avoid disputes. Returning with a full propane tank and empty waste tanks helps you get your full deposit back faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I rent an RV in Saint Paul in winter, and what about cold-weather prep?

Yes, winter RV rentals in Saint Paul are absolutely possible, and they are a different kind of magic when ice sculptures light up the Saint Paul Winter Carnival in late January. Many hosts list four-season RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, dual-pane windows, and high-output furnaces designed for Minnesota's January lows (often around -10 to -20 degrees Fahrenheit). You will want a campground with shore power because furnaces and tank heaters draw serious wattage. Filter for winter-ready RVs on RVezy and message the host about cold-weather prep, including using RV antifreeze in drain traps. Afton State Park stays open year-round for cross-country skiing right outside your RV door.
